That airport sucks. The whole state sucks. (Full disclosure: I have family there.)
Even residents of NJ refer to it as "the armpit of the nation" but they aren't the only ones.
It is NY's dumping ground.
NJ I believe ranked #1 in people leaving a state last year lol. Correct me if I am wrong, and NY was tied with someone for #2. So you can imagine the flow of trash in as there's a flow out.
I was interested, so I looked it up. You're wrong.
According to the most recent data, in 2012 an estimated 219,202 +/- 11,087 people emigrated out of New Jersey. In terms of raw population flow NJ is dwarfed in terms of emigration by several other states. California, Florida, New York, and Texas all have significantly higher numbers of people leaving the state (and per your comment of NY being #2, it's #3, CA #1, FL #2). New Jersey also falls behind several other states in terms of raw numbers after you pass the top 4.
You are right however, in saying people in NJ immigrate to NY, which was the number one place of immigration for 2012. This is unsurprising as it is a neighbor of NJ. Pennsylvania was number two.
To give you some credit, more emigrated out of NJ than immigrated in in 2012, by roughly 90 thousand. This gives NJ a relatively large variance in the number of people leaving versus those entering the state. Perhaps this is the statistic you saw. It seems like it is a high raw outflow of people, but I don't know if it is the highest raw total, or near the highest change in population per state population / per number of emigrants, or whatever the relevant statistic may be.
You could confirm this given census data if you wanted, I'm not up for doing the work.

In terms of political corruption for 2013 I personally think the top contender is New York, but anecdotes, especially recent ones come to mind easily. That and nobody cares about state officials other than Governors anyway.
Food for thought though:

If you can corrupt it here, you can corrupt it anywhere. Much emphasis on that single party domination being responsible for alot of the cronyism that comes with living here.
When incumbents don't fear getting thrown out of office they tend to ***all over the peoples carpets. Cuomo's national aspirations are laughable, he has all the charisma of a corpse and zero national appeal. FDR he is not.
I'll be making sure to save my vote for his competition or a write in. Charizard is looking good this time of year.

According to their data New Jersey ranks #1 in proportion of people moving out of the state to those moving in. This seems likely from the data I looked out and its not an insignificant fact either.

inorite? Sad that all you need is charisma to get elected anymore. You can be a complete failure that never had a job in your life or a single accomplishment to your name and get elected President as long as you have charisma.

That's nothing even remotely new. I can find you stories of that exact problem going back to the beginnings of Parliament in Great Britain at minimum, though I'd easily wager that similar accounts exist for every elected government in history.

Kennedy and Reagan were elected on little more than charisma.

Before they became President, you want to go ahead and compare the backgrounds and careers of George Bush, JFK and Reagan to President Obama's? lol go ahead
By Jetackuu 2014-01-12 14:41:23
Jr? bankrupted an oil company (which unless they spill, is pretty hard to do) did a number on Texas as well iirc, both things his daddy gave to him., skipping JFK as I would need to research everything,, Reagan: actor.
That's just going off what I know off the top of my head, I really haven't researched their political careers, I do however find that the family Bush is a bunch of traitorous slime though, Prescott failed fortunately though.

Pretty funny coming from you, since of the last 5 Presidencies, it can be applied to all 3 of the Republicans and none of the Democrats.

Pretty sure selling your soul to big money interest is what gets you elected, not your charisma.

Charisma is a skill that is taken for granted. It is incredibly important.

No one takes charisma for granted. Charisma is one of the first things people notice about other people and is one of the things that draws people most to other people. People who have it love it. People who don't; all they can do accept the fact that they were deal a bad hand in that department.

On a personal level, absolutely, in politics, you're only as charismatic as your PR people make you. Al Gore has about as much personality politically as a wooden door, but informally he's a funny guy. It's not what you have, but what people THINK you have.

Without getting into a pissing match, Reagan and Bush Jr both had relatively little political experience outside of being Governors. JFK I honestly don't know much about before he ran for President. Not that lack of experience or strictly Gubernatorial experience had a major impact on either of their presidencies, necessarily. Obama's political experience isn't any more limited than either Reagan or Bush, but it's definitely been more publicized and disadvantageous.
Jr? bankrupted an oil company (which unless they spill, is pretty hard to do)
There's plenty of factors outside an executive's control that could topple any company, though I don't know the specifics of that company's failure. It does seem suspect that one of the most profitable kinds of companies with that kind of backing and connections would go under, though.

Gonna chalk it up to scumbags in his inner circle. The investigation will probe further and for Christie's sake he better be clean as a whistle. After Jon Corzine, New Jersey deserves better than another scumbag governor.
Corzine believed in giving stateworkers cost-of-living advances and Christie does not. While Corzine IS a pile of dung, at least I made more as a public sector employee that's takes a big paycut in exchange for good benefits (which are going the wayside)
Say what you want about the subject at hand, it's no Benghazi. Sorry to all those Hillary supporters but this is just a minor bump in the road...

I remember when conservatives attacked Obama and called him incompetent every time he didn't know the smallest little detail about what was going on in his administration, even if it's small enough where he wasn't supposed to know.

The right wing media outlets have been pretty ingenious in painting him that way, even if it's not always wrong.

Pretty sure the only people who think IRS/Benghazi are huge issues are people who still think Fox News is a legitimate news organization.
At the moment, Hiliary is most likely to be our next president if the election is tomorrow, so the republicans and right wing media are trying really hard to pin Benghazi on her. It's just that no one seems to care.

But I guess that's approaching it logically.

as a life long jersey resident (oh god no... /cry), i find it interesting reading all the comments from you outsiders.
Personal advice, stay out. Theres a reason everyone here is trying to leave. (Also a reason jersey started charging its ppl a fee to legally move out of the state. Thats right, u have to pay them to let you leave.)

Interestingly enough, when I was going to school in Wyoming, they were offering students large tax breaks and other incentives to establish residency.

bait and switch
trust me, you do not want to live here.
I guess we should talk about this:
http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/09/politics/chris-christie-bridge-primer/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Aside from the obvious, which is that this kind of political payback is disgusting and wrong, I think that this scandal damages Chris Christie's 2016 chances. Over the next few days and weeks we should get a clearer picture of his actual involvement, so maybe I'm off-base and he'll escape unscathed.
Anyone else got thoughts on this whole debacle?
