so i just finished my 3rd attempt which ended in fail. the other 2 were crap as well but not just straight losses. 1st one i engaged accidentally while adjusting in my chair and so wasn't ready. 2nd one i dc'd mid battle. anyhow this time i got him to half life with minimal dmg taken when he hit me with Asuran Fists and one shotted me. any tips for success? any gear recommendations? i'm going in @70 for G5 and don't have o.hat yet but haven't had an acc problem. i macro in AF for dodge/focus/chakra and for boost which i stack to start fight with chi blast. and i switch back to fight gear right before chi blast goes off. i'm getting frustrated cuz it took me all day today to farm another test since i did it solo.

I want to say do this:

1) Go in and build TP to 100 with opo-opo necklace and sleep potions.
2) If you have money, buy a blink band it'll save you on 3 hits. Use that next if you have it.
3) Use Food/Focus/Dodge/Boost
4) Run in and Weapon skill him.
5) The SECOND your weapon skill goes off hundred fists him.
6) As soon as you get another 100% TP WS him (even if hundred fists isn't off yet).

That right there should take him out.

I suggest DEF food like tacos but if you want to try all out attack food that's fine too. Either direction is a boost.

This should take him out as you hit yellow life or so.

Best of luck :) i'm sure you'll do just fine.

k, should i still stack boosts then dodge/focus or just dodge/focus/boost then ws

also someone in my ls suggested using carbanara which i have for attack and store tp but i'm thinking def might be better too. i pick up some tacos for next run. after using blink band can i change to chiv chain without losing enchantment. and also i have been using opo neck. normally i sleep to 100tp->boost x11 w/ AF->dodge/focus w/ AF->chi blast->ws->icarus wing->ws and then while trying to use hundred fists he hit me with asuran.

I defiantly suggest a tavnazian taco just in case he pulls out crazy damage from his *** like he has before.

I wouldn't stack too much boost because you are on a strict time limit, and the extra damage isn't really worth the extra time.

And yes you can change to chiv chain after blink band ^^.

What looks like your problem was before was that you didn't use your two hour... hundred fists right after your initial WS after engaging is key because you will rape his face very quickly.

I think the problem with your strategy is it was giving him too much time to build TP or two hour first, in which case if that happens your toast.

Also don't bother with chi blast, will delay your attack off too long and every timed hit is precious.

Hope that helps :)

k so just sleep tp, use food, dodge/focus/boost, ws, 2hr, ws when ready and that should do it?

Absolutely. basically do as much damage as you can as fast as you can, and that is the best way to go about it on monk.

One other quick hint, pop Footwork when you go in. It doesn't affect weapon skill damage, or hundred fists, but it will give you extra TP on your weapon skills. On your second weapon skill, it'll give you about 10 TP for free towards your third and final weapon skill. After that point, you can cancel it but if you haven't built up 100 TP by the time 100 fists is over, you've probably lost already anyway.

as a 75MNK, Opo-opo necklace can be shoved up the *** of everyone here...

You wanna win?

Icarus Wing, pop that at the beginning...

go in there with Asuran Fists to start, then Hundred Fists, then at every 100% tp, pop Asuran Fists or Dragon Kick if you have Footwork up...

That's how I won.

If you want to take the time to create elaborate macros for it's a good suggestion. But it's alot of extra steps to worry about. If you feel you can multitask it for the extra 10 TP go for it.

But if you feel overwhelmed at the thought of it, or think you might hit wrong macros since your already going to be flying on them, do what you feel most comfortable with.

Also that's about right, if you don't finish him off before hundred fists is over, your in for a close call or instant death.

First off it's his first 75, he wouldn't have asuran fists... second off dragon kick? wtf?

The icarus wing is an OK idea but it will leave you medicated for 120 minutes. Will pretty much screw whatever other plans you had up for the next few hours.

Opo-Necklace and Blinkband give you a few moments to collect yourself and prepare for whats ahead, not pop TP wing and rush in like a madman.

Personally i would use Howling Fist due to the fact it ignores defense.

PFFT... *** mages and your *** cautions. True fighters don't need to collect themselves during a fight.

BTW, even if its his first job to 75, he can still get Asuran Fists, and if he doesn't have it, Dragon Kick will help, granted he has Footwork + Hundred Fists active.

I honestly found all Maat fights to be easier if you didn't over think it. Especially for MNK your looking at a straight up how fast can I punch him to death approach. You'd be amazed what a crazy blood lust can do to your luck. XD

I just wanted to note from previous experience. It might just be a fluke, but i've noticed Howling Fist has always been more accurate and reliable than Dragon Kick. For whatever reason I whiffed with overwhelming tendency on that WS ._.

Dragon kick is only good at 300% with footwork, otherwise howling fist for the win.

And on rushing in versus planning it out, it can be preference but based on what i read he tried already, this approach may be easier for him. If you know what to expect then sure rickroll his ***.

Well it wasn't even a matter of their TP or mod calculations or anything like that. For some bizarre reason my DKs had a horrible tendency to whiff completely. Howling Fist has always been good to me and even has some higher than usual peak numbers time to time. Wiki says it supposedly ignores defense to a degree but that's certainly debatable.

how could i get Asuran Fists with monk as first 75 when i need to beat Maat to pass 70 and you need to be 71 to start the quest for Asuran Fists?

Just my two cents:

Get a Chi Blast set. Seriously. Even if it's only +30 MND that's still an additional ~300 damage you won't have to worry about.
Other than that, sleep to 100 TP, then boostx12, then Chi Blast (Should do around 700 damage with +30 MND if I remember correctly).
Only real problem I had with this Maat Fight is Hundred Fists. I just brought 1 Vile and 1 Vile+1 to power through it, because if you're LV66 trying this fight, there's no way you'll survive his Hundred Fists without it.
Other than that, it's more based on luck than anything. One missed Howling Fist and you're more likely to die.
I've beaten Maat on 11 jobs now and I can honestly say MNK was hardest, by far.

Just did this about 2weeks ago at lv.66, lost the 1st time. My melee hits where about 0(guarded)~47(crit's) with Marinara Pizza. His hit's where about 170-240dmg.

I slept to 100tp used a blink band then used focus/dodge/hundred fists then turned towards him howling fist > icarus wing > howling fist, at this point he used hundred fists and owned me in like 3sec's....

2nd time i went in same strategy this time i used carbonara(taru) and the #1factor this time i believe was !Counterstance! my hp when the battle was over was 991/1260(he hit me twice). Only meds where sleeping potion x4 and I.wing, No Boost No Chakra. Good luck^

Counter is broken!!!! <<< This could be why you are dying.

Put your ***on hold! Counter is helpful, and may save your life, and get you the win.

There is a distance you can engage Maat (and not hit him) but still be able to WS.

I found this to be extremely useful, as he will move forward to engage you and you hit him as soon as your WS goes off. So now you hit him with WS and a regular hit, and he only just engaged you. Pop 100 Fists, yo.

These people give good advice as well: sleep, boost/focus/dodge ws, 2hr, ws, wing, ws - winner for me.

When I did Maat, Counterstance *** my face, I died FAST.

I'm not "not recommending it" though, my luck prolly failed.

Ps- Enternius said MNK66 was their hardest, mine was RDM66, 1/7

sadly mnk maat is like the 2nd hardest maat fight maybe now hardest sine rdm can jst do the xp scroll trick where u get to a few xp of next level then op xp scroll to leverl and refil all your hp and mp instantly. I guess you could try that for mnk though might be to much delay. other then that blink band ica wing opaopa necklace buffs dodge so on chi at full at start run in ws hti 2 hours (have it on macro) ws wing vile elixer if u have it as needed and prey.. oh and have him pre targeted and in attack mode before chiing.

Everyone says RDM is the hardest but I didn't decide to go for Maat's Cap until I had 6 75s, including RDM. So I got to fight RDM Maat at LV75.

Also, yeah Counter is definitely broken. Soloing Aura Statues is no fun if you can't counter and get hit for 500+ with CS up.

Instead of using a Vile and a Vile +1, could one instead just pop a Hermes' Quencher and run away from Hundred Fists?

They all leave you medicated. Don't forget that the exp scroll is a totally viable option for all jobs too.

Sorry about the delayed response, Bound.

Easiest way to get an exp scroll is to grab a friend and go do the San d'Orian Escort quest. I've found this is the easiest of the main 4 Escort quests, but I might be wrong. Nonetheless, you get an exp scroll, worth ~1500 exp, and a bonus 10,000 gil if it's your first time doing the quest.
