You know damn well that from a personal perspective I look down on nearly every aspect of their religion as pertains to male-female relations, sexuality, and various other social aspects.

As far as I'm concerned their parents are terrible people for forcing that lifestyle on 19 other human beings, though that is probably mitigated a bit due to the fact that they themselves probably had this ***forced on them.

Everyone complains about reality TV yet there are some actually entertaining "reality TV shows". I know it is hard to believe but it is true !

There are far too many terrible comedy and dramas on TV for me to list.

And every time there's a show on I love and actually watch as it airs, the host goes and punches a producer and then I don't have it to watch anymore because "oh no, we can't have our stars punching our producers!".

I mean, okay, fine, yes, higher ground, probably morally the right thing to do, but still...I HATE YOU BBC. FREE CLARKSON.

Reality TV isn't so bad ever heard of a show called 2 Broke Girls...
All that show is is a bunch of one liners... and there's a horse and that mom from American Pie.

The fact the show is a "hit" makes me wonder what kinda of standards do people have for comedy...

If TLC had known about this before the show would never have happened in the first place and then we would have one less reality show!

I think I've said this before, but try watching a sitcom sometime with the laugh track removed and realize how just *** all terrible they are.

Like really, really bad. I'm pretty sure you can find the Big Bang Theory like that on Youtube. It's just...it was terrible in the first place, obviously, but you see how really bad it is otherwise.

Personal preference and all that... I don't get why a lot of things are popular but hey... to each their own.

I don't see what my analogy has to do with what you said. It was focused more on Terraka's post that suggested that she was wrong to forgive. Forgiveness is a huge part of "letting go".

I didn't say she was wrong to forgive, I'm just surprised she's supporting him and standing by his side.

And I was taught, (which has been proven wrong by a few other posters) that if you broke one of the 10 Commandments, or any other rules set-forth by any other religion, that you would go to Hell or wherever other religions send their sinners, because I was under the assumption that breaking any religious law was an "Unforgivable sin." Which again has been proven wrong by other posters.

Religion should be focused on kindness and compassion, bettering our planet and the gift we have with it, and taking care of it for future generations, to directly counter suffering and pain.

Volunteer work treating others unconditionally with positive energy.

But how does this allow me to project a delusional sense of superiority upon others? How am I supposed to justify my miserable life if I don't have others to bash, trash and treat with the utmost scorn?

It's why I've been skeptical of Heaven as described by adherents. Either it's a place scrubbed of all humanity, all the little nuances that make nice things worth noting.

Or it's a place where you and your closest friends live in a drug induced state where you never bicker, disagree or complain about anything or without anyone to challenge your opinions on anything.

Both sound alot like dying. So much for avoiding death.

What's really strange is trying to put yourself in the parents' shoes with this entire debacle. I'm sure we can all admit, that has to be a mindfuck of a situation. Then again, I'll wager a bet that most of us wouldn't actively seclude our kids, which may be the catalyst for all of this.

Show of hands, suburban-bred, come-home-when-the-street-lights-are-on, public school kids. LOL!

From what I read, which could be a bunch of internet hooey, they discipline their boys for jackin' it. What do you do in that kind of environment?

Kinsey would like a word with these folks.

It seems the molestation of the five year old led them to finally seek some therapy for him. At least according to the police report.

I seriously question how they were able to live with themselves by allowing so many incidences to occur to multiple children and a family friend/babysitter.

It boggles my mind how parents can allow this crap to occur again after they know something has happened.

That was kind of my point. Here's an analogy:

A man walks into a classroom. He punches every boy in the face, but leaves the girls alone. Obviously there is a bias here. Do you:

A. Encourage him to punch all of the girls in the face, to be fair.
B. Discourage him from punching anyone in the face in the first place.

Encouraging the girl to focus more on the parts of her religion that condemn her brother's actions are closer to choice A, because you (the proverbial you, that is) perceive her as unfairly judging other groups and want her to share the misery with her own.

I think that analogy is horrible for the girls involved here. Or any child victims.

I'm more concerned that the counselling focused on the super important aspect that it wasn't her fault versus encouraging forgivness or not.

Frankly, counselling is about how the victim feels and not the person who hurt and abused them.

Most counselling (for all types of abuse) encourages some type of forgiveness or "letting go" in later stages in order to create a healthy lifestyle for the victim.

I don't see what my analogy has to do with what you said. It was focused more on Terraka's post that suggested that she was wrong to forgive. Forgiveness is a huge part of "letting go".
Screw that noise.

I've just never got ATHF. It's been a series of light chuckles and indifference for me every time. Same with Big Bang. It's only mildly funny.

And I typically have a low bar for comedy.

If some guy is molesting little kids in the neighborhood should we just say oh well there are worse crimes being committed leave that guy alone? I'm not saying we should specifically focus on this case anymore but making the argument that there is something worse going on over there so we shouldn't give this one that much attention is just a crappy argument.

I should have been more clear, but I'm multitasking. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the crime isn't worthy of attention. It just seems weird to me that we're focusing on a family that is well into the process of trying to move on. There are much more extreme cases of child abuse that either get no coverage or are not even reported, but we're pulling out skeletons in the Duggar closet and opening old wounds for what? Justice?
