So far Rotten Tomatoes has the movie at 29% by critics and just over 50% by consumers.

I wonder how many couples are going to go see this for date night this evening.

What I know about this film is that Lucy Hale was turned down for the role of female protagonist, which is too bad I would've watched her in erotic action!

Under the 3 pounds of makeup there is a woman under there !

Plus she has too many clothes on.

2/10 would not bang !

I know first responders in our area have been put on notice that they may be busier than usual and encounter some awkward situations.

This sums it up quite nicely:

I guess what I found to be so surprising is how a movie about weird, erotic, passionate sex could wind up being so dull.

I hate to defend this drivel, but I could pick up a piece of genuinely good literature and tally the number of times a certain word is repeated.

Come to that, I did. One of the earlier novels written in English, Evelina, is considered a classic for a variety of reasons. Whether because it's epistolary (a story told through people's correspondence mail) or simply fairly early in the form, it uses certain words with regular frequency. I actually found a digital copy in order to notate every use of the word "artless" (and the one or two instances of "artful") exactly to analyze the purpose that repetition served in the author's intent. Hurrah for post-modern analysis and all that.

If the point was to try to knock bad writing by pointing out that she uses words over and over again, the point was stupid. Which was my point.

Her writing is awful. Her use of really common words, especially to convey body language, is not a good example thereof. It's like criticizing Piss Christ because the bottle was just a bottle instead of something hand-blown.

I can say, at least for me, it isn't just word repetition. It's the theme and meaning of those words and what they imply.

As I saw one commentator in another forum point out, after he's shoved like six different things up her rear, the idea of innocent blushing every time he touches her in a slightly sexual fashion gets harder and harder to buy. It's the cumulative effect of bad writing, bad concepts, and just flagrant terrible characterization.

Reminds me of the question: "how many times, does the word "thud" is used in the novel Thud"?

Google wouldn't tell me. I could re-read and keep track.

Ha! I came across an add on Kijiji.com about a guy willing to pay money to see the 50 shades of Grey books burn.

Surely you don't mean Terry Pratchett's Thud!? To my recollection, the word never appears in the text of the novel.

OK, hadn't read the book, and honestly know little about it, and now I'm glad that I haven't. WTF?

You haven't read the said book, haven't you? Word "thud" is said many many times in it, I lost count.
