Unless you are going pet only, I should think Getting the Right pet for Killer Instinct will matter more.

2nd option would be good opener for master skillchain

3rd option would be a really good debuff like def down or mdb down

All of those usually higher consideration than highest damage single target ready move.

anyone have a favorite off-the-path jug pet?

I like Sultry Patrice (https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Putrescent_Broth) and Pondering Peter, for their ridiculous AoEs. I've always loved charming slime pets back in the day because they were so durable. I'm glad the jug pet version is similarly sturdy. I still wish it had a propeller hat or unique look like CourierCarrie.

nice call, i still remember charming slimes for gaudy harness way back when we used to /whm!

I hear from a friend that the folks on Horizon are enjoying a playstyle that mimicks old-school Beastmaster. It's not quite pre-2005 because Leave'ed pets still despawn instead of walking back to their spawn point. But man, maybe one day it'll come back.

I really wish SE would just remove the level-cap on jug pets. I want a high level Crude Raphie already. It's funny that he can buff the master but he only caps at 99/114.

Question to you career BSTs, approximately how much space is dedicated to BST-only equip (jugs, pet food, etc.)?? My first mythic years ago was BST's Aymur but I no longer play BST due to the huge amount of gear required (jugs alone). Wondering if I can get back into it soon (haven't touched BST since update where the jugs' buffs get shared with owner). I use the addon PorterPacker religiously for ALL jobs I play and am aware of other organizer-type addons but it seems too much for a BST.

If you're going to devote time to Master+Pet fighting, there's a lot of gear. If it's just Pet-Only fighting or spamming a subset of Pet Abilities (like TP Drainkiss or Purrulent Ooze, it's not a lot of gear). At a minimum, a Pet-only would be:

0.) Idle set with Hybrid Master and Pet DT/M.Evasion
1.) CallBeast/Bestial Loyalty Set (Pet Level+)
2.) Reward Set
3.) Physical Pet Ready Move Set
4.) Magic Acc/MAB Pet Ready Move Set
5.) Niche today: Pet Hybrid / Multi-attack Ready Move set.

About pet food and jugs, I keep a stack of my favorite jug and Pet Food Theta on me at all times. Othewise, All of the extra options I keep on an alt and grab when I need them.

In today's end-game, Beastmasters are just spamming TP Drainkiss in TP Denial strategies in Odyssey or hitting Purrulent Ooze against Wave 3 bosses for Max HP-10%. However, I'm sure folks will have more sets/items/things to add.

For me it's the usual sets for masters (tp, pdt, mdt, regain, and about 7 ws sets) plus a reward set, magical ready set and physical ready set, KI set... and i think thats it.
If i were to play bst at his full potential i would also have pdt and mdt for pets.
Im really reaaaaaaaaaally wanting to give another try to Feral Howl, but i dont feel like sacrificing any of my KI or Call beast merits, but one day.... one day i will unlock it again, im sure.

Edit: forgot my charm set.... which i VERY RARELY use, but it actually saved my butt few times.

My BST takes up almost two full wardrobes, I'm currently sitting at 153 slots taken up for equipment (this includes all of the jug and pet food as well). This doesn't include more widely used equipment like Nyame, since that's all jobs and sits in a different wardrobe. Could I shave that number down a bit? Yeah, I could get that number down a fair bit, but I already go through the equipment list every few months to see if I can free up space. I could drop a few MND accessories that I use for Reward without impacting the amount healed that much to free up a few slots, things like that.

But keep in mind I also have sets like a full counter+ build for when I have my Raaz pet out and want to survive something. So I do have a few pieces of gear that aren't required by any definition of that word. If I had to guess what a good number is for a decently rounded BST, I'd say you could probably get away with 80 items. You'd likely be sacrificing a few pieces for sets, but it'd get you down to a single wardrobe/inv. You really only need to keep a couple of jug items with you, I generally use 4 or 5 different pets regularly, the others are niche use and just end up taking up space, but I like to be prepared, and I'm terribly forgetful and would likely forget to bring a jug item for a specific fight.

But like others have said before me, how you want to play BST will determine how many sets you have. I have a pet tanking set (focuses on damage mitigation), but I don't have a pet TP set for when the pet is attacking, but the beastmaster is standing back at a distance. I've never had a need for that set, so I never built it. But I have needed a pet tanking set, like for when I cleave in Omen.

One solution I've been thinking about for this is to store them in an accessible non-wardrobe bag, then pull the needed one into inventory via macro with Itemizer. Could pull/equip/JA quickly using windower scripts / gearswap to bypass macros' 1 sec minimum delay.

Could even use Itemizer further to re-store all jug/food after a Bestial Loyalty. Something like:

Code
input //get "Vis. Broth"
wait 0.6
equip ({ammo="Vis. Broth"})
wait 0.2
input /ja "Bestial Loyalty" <me>
wait 0.1
input //put "Vis. Broth" case

Or -- probably better -- just use macros to get/equip any given jug, then separate Call Beast / Bestial Loyalty macros, the latter being programmed to re-store all jugs/food after.

Biggest downside I can think of is that it won't function if your inventory is ever full. But the solution to that is easy enough.

Prime weapons seem weird in how the pet level+ works

It seems like they are calling it level +1 but it seems better than level +1

I would not expect that much of a boost from pet level +1

It might be easier to tell with a neutral pet and level-by-level growth chart.

Thanks for laying it out like that - it does look like normal growth so far.

There are a number of stat charts posted (some of them before the Evasion update in February) so it might have seemed like the stat boosts are larger than they really are.

Interesting! What pet/weapon/weaponskill combo do you use for cleaving on BST? (I ask because you seem like a more adventurous fellow than myself and might have tried a combination that is off-the-beaten-path).

How impactful is Aymur these days?

For pets, i'm assuming it is pretty much always bis for ready moves with the tp bonus, plus OA2-3 and attack bonus for physical/multihit, but how much better vs other options?

For master, does it beat R15 farsha + cloudsplitter in a magic damage ws scenario (if corresponding elements arent resisted/weak)?

I'm starting to think about my next mythic and Aymur is on the shortlist. I currently have guttler, R15 farsha, doli, aqwu's, tpbonus/mab skirmish axes etc.

Thanks!

Primal is still one of the more powerful single target magical WS' bst can use, OaT sets for bst aint hard to build and can be pretty effective, and other REMA axe's arent all that impressive even for a master perspective(and even aymur can fall into that hole cause dolci is still one of the best axes you can use for raw damage)

And as you said it's very good for pets as many ready moves are dmg varies, some are also mirrored such as sweeping gouge or pentapeck, buffet, etc. as well as some magical ones which you can still use it for a pre-swap for 500 TP bonus instead of the full 1k and swap in a magical axe, just depends how often you will be using said moves on bst

Pet level +1 at these ranges is at least +30~35 attack/accuracy for quick and dirty eye-balling comparisons.

Also the axe at full upgrade will be like +90~115 acc/atk/eva/def
Thats quite impressive. Especially since it works offhand.

Obviously there will be base stat gains mixed in there also.

This is really great to see. I have a list of Master WS + Pet Ready move skillchain combinations here. Does the Blitz open up or connect moves that were previously unavailable? (I'm holding out hope for a 1-charge move > WS infinite)

Blitz doesn't really open new skillchain possibilities for master.

We already had Liquefaction and Impaction from Spinning axe. (Impaction is actually on a couple more axe ws's also). We also already had fragmentation from Cloudsplitter.

Blitz is a higher power weaponskill option for Liquefaction especially... so thats a bit of an improvment..

Also its a physical ws with high damage potential on a Fragmentation weaponskill so we can fit the skillchain property with physical buffs instead of magical, but these are very minor situational advantages they are things we could do before but maybe we can do them better in some situations...

It was more of a skillchain option broadening change when we got the last group of new pets.

Its also an easy-button skillchain... "JUST KEEP HITTING BLITZ!!" It will skillchain eventually!
