COR AF Trouble: Hydrogauge

OK, so there is quite a bit of info online about this, but regardless of what I try, I cannot seem to catch this damn item. I have all the cut scenes and have used almost every combination of rod and bait/lure that I've seen out there (except Lu Shang's, but F that). I've broken about 8 rods and am starting to get frustrated...

Anyone know if maybe there's something else to this that I'm missing? I'm probably just unlucky...

I fished it back then with lv 1 skill, the cheapest rod and bait, in WG port(the one that leads to Nash). Try that location if you haven't.

I've tried both ports in WG as well as the port in Nashmau. :(

I did read that some people said it took them hours to get it, so I must just be an outlier.

I fished mine next to porter moogle whitegate. I'm not entirely sure which rod/bait I used, but probably halcyon rod/sabiki rig. And yes, it might take some time to fish it up. Random fish is random.

Random is random indeed. Caught one in less than ten minutes. Rod/Bait used was Ebisu and Insect Ball. Can be caught with any combo, but like wiki says that bait limits possible fish.

So last night, I finally caught it. I probably spent 6 hours fishing to get it. Finally time to move on with upgrading my COR AF! :)

Caught it in whitegate next to port to nashmau next to mithra npc ekhu pesshyadha, used lu shang and insect ball, about 5 mins of fishing, at 0 fishing skill.
