Just give the players who had AG before the coming update a different color so everyone can still acknowledge their efforts. Or even the same color but with strobe effects and a disco ball.

I want to believe that they KNOW the original afterglow was a big requirement. I want to believe that they will adjust the requirement for people who have obtained it previously in a fair tanaka balanced manner.
My point from the start (that I've said in several reiterations) is that it's way way way too soon to get upset and overly emotional. It's going to be comical in many MANY ways when it pans out fairly for everyone.

I'll settle for my own theme song when I enter a zone.

I'd like to believe that as well, but they've shown pretty clearly that they don't understand the value of trial completion at all. Look at what ilvl did to RME's and how lackluster most of them still were after they were given ilvl versions.
Afterglow by itself was always more about accomplishment than what they offered. So, they've already kind of crapped on that.
By Clinpachi 2015-12-16 14:00:46
I think the biggest problem with understanding the value of an afterglow is that the precedence and achievement is set by the player base.
Most. Please god emphases on MOST. Most of the time they tell us "no" we can't have XYZ feature or "thing" in the game is probably for the best. It's like a parent telling you no because you don't know any better (when you actually don't).
While there IS an economical factor to afterglow, the value is only what the player base makes it to be. Now whether or not Square Enix agrees with what the community came up with as a whole is where things probably start to get ugly.
Just because you paid 1.5 billion gil for an afterglow doesn't mean it's worth that much. It's probably that exact point where feelings get hurt with certain people.
Depreciation in value.

I just want to make one point about economics and I'll drop the issue entirely. Gil prices are a function of what a person's time is worth. The afterglow items aren't necessarily THAT rare, but they require at least a few characters to farm in any quantity. Dross/cinder pretty easily requiring the most to be economical to farm.
It's a very standard principle of economics, the price is what the market will bear, if cinders are going for 1.5M, that's what they're worth. It's not JUST some arbitrary number players came up with, it's economics.
For a lot of people, just the gil/time conversion is a MASSIVE investment, far more than the simple grind of weaponskill trials or getting 20 groups together to go kill some hard boss enough times to get their drop.
If you ask me, just the determination to finish a crazy AG trial after building and upgrading a weapon should carry some weight with the game developer when they design new content. The people who build those kinds of weapons are loyal customers, and you never win by giving a hearty F-U to your loyal customers.

SE didn't even announce what the upgrade requirements for RME's are, so there's no reason to get mad about it, yet. For all we know the requirements for non-AG weapons could require people to kill all the Escha & Reisenjima NMs without a brew, while the AG weapons could bypass this. This requirement alone would probably prevent 90% or more of the player base from being able to upgrade a non-AG weapon, so AG's wouldn't become too common.
Obviously, I could be completely wrong on what the upgrade requirements will be, but until we know more, there's no reason to be upset about what could happen. Knowing SE, they could make the upgrade paths for both AG & non-AG weapons super easy OR super tough. I guess we'll find out in a couple of months.

I actually agree with almost everything 100%. Part of what probably happened is that sometimes when game developers design something and release it into the wild, the response and way people treat something go way beyond what was originally expected.
A good example is their perception of what they wanted Ninja to be in this game versus what people actually did with it.
The game has lacked proper direction and focus since Tanaka left and it's likely that certain things that should have been adjusted fell between the cracks.
We will never know for sure though. I agree with the economics portion entirely though. I didn't just make the 1.5 billion up either I think that was the figure I came up with when adding briefly.
The biggest takeaway that should be common knowledge by now is that any item with extreme rarity will eventually be phased in and adjusted so more people can get it easier. We are at a standstill in game development so we are now hitting the ceiling. We are now able to obtain almost any rare item in the game with less time it previously took. The only difference now is that we have nothing super new to jump to.

The point being that if the final weapon doesn't reflect the work of obtaining an AG in the first place, even if it's as cosmetic and non-functional as most of the AG effects are, they've already crapped on AG owners. The difficulty difference between AG and non-AG base weapons would have be basically as large as the AG process itself.
That's my thoughts as a non-AG owner who doesn't even have an active account.

My thoughts exactly in addition to the fact that I think everyone having afterglow will look stupid but that's just cosmetic reasons lol
By Clinpachi 2015-12-16 14:29:46
The fact that the final weapon itself doesn't reflect the work put into it actually makes me think it was supposed to be something more but it got swept under the rug.
To be honest it looks like we almost saw more ToAU and Tatarus zones related to Pandemonium Warden. We will never know what internally happened and caused a shift in direction, but I'd bet money that the direction of RME got deviated. Shame it took all the way to February 2016 to fix lol.
Now that I think about it, the addition of ilvl equipment is probably what caused them to scratch their heads and push it off for awhile. I don't think anyone saw that coming.
By briko 2015-12-16 14:32:37
I'm speculating it will require 100k merit points for relics/empys, 500 job points(and master title) for mythic/ergon. Previous AG owners have a 50% reduction.

"Hey SE, why can't you just transform afterglows into a KI when you complete the quest with an afterglowed weapon? And then those without the afterglowed weapon only get the upgraded weapon, but not the effect?"

I mean out of curiosity, what would it ACTUALLY take to make you happy with this situation?
Taking away all REM's from anyone who doesn't have the AG version, or making it so that the new stats ONLY apply to those who had AG before the update and that nobody else got them. These people are operating on an exclusivity mindset, they only see value in something if it's exclusive to themselves. If mere "commoners" get the same shiny toy then they immediately need something else to elevate themselves above the unwashed.
It's like I said earlier, they are using virtual achievements to substitute for self esteem. Instead of accomplishing something of value in real life, they instead use this super exclusive rare item in a fantasy MMO as a source of self validation. The moment that item is no longer exclusive or rare that self validation vaporizes and they are left in the same situation they started in.
Honestly they need to delete their accounts, put down all video games and go do something else in real life. Join clubs, take up a challenging hobby, learn a craft of skill, something that has a meaningful impact on their lives and creates real life long validation instead of seeking it in a video game.

Uh, no. People are quite capable of accomplishing things in game and IRL. You stating what you just did makes me wonder about you though.

While I agree with most of the things said here, I'm also wondering if SE takes in to account the duped items/weapons which made it past the last big banhammer. Or previous exploits, when considering the value (to SE) of an afterglow.

"Relevant" does not always translate to "productive" or "worthwhile". The past few pages have mostly been a sad mix of entitlement, superiority complexes, and rose-tinted glasses. I keep checking in to see if there's any new dev posts and instead I keep remembering why I don't bother keeping up with the forums.
By Davorin 2015-12-17 01:59:17
Then I suppose the word "discussions" should be omitted from the title for you?
I agree that the entitlement is strong with a select few, but what would you expect? It's like when RME's were first eclipsed by plasm weapons.
Edit: I don't care for the superiority or rose-tinted glasses either, but it is somewhat interesting to read posts from those players' perspectives, and maybe that's because I don't have an afterglow. /shrug.
By Draylo 2015-12-17 02:20:29
It most likely is, you can already see the animosity in multiple threads. People with it are perceived as cheaters, self-entitled losers who are getting their just rewards by everyone getting it lol. Considering less than 5%? of the population has it, its like a hate bandwagon. Pretty petty but it's expected from an online community. I'm already over it, but I hope there's a filter for the glow because I'll be turning that off ASAP. What is more concerning is something was mentioned about random augments on the REMs? That will be interesting lol.

Quote: Freshly Picked Vana'diel 23 Digest
Greetings,
To coincide with the December version update, Producer Akihiko Matsui held another "Freshly Picked Vana'diel" to go over some of the new content and discuss other topics pertinent to adventuring. The following is a digest of what was discussed.
Quote:
Hello, everyone. Matsui here.
This time around for Freshly Picked Vana'diel we tried incorporating some new aspects and segments into the mix, so I hope you enjoy the new content.
YouTube Video Placeholder
Table of Contents
Aeonic Weapons
As a special guest we’ve invited the item team lead, Kasa, on the show who gave an overview of Aeonic weapons.
With the addition of a new quest, you can now obtain Aeonic weapons once you have completed it.
These weapons have high damage, high combat/magic accuracy skill, and when compared to other existing item level 119 weapons, they are quite superior. Additionally they all possess the Store TP and TP Bonus traits and are tailored towards using weapon skills.
The new ultimate skillchains, “Radiance” and “Umbra,” can be activated while under the effects of each weapon’s aftermath in the following manner:
With level 1 aftermath: Any skillchain -> any skillchain -> level 3 skillchain -> level 3 skillchain -> ultimate skillchain.
With level 2 aftermath: Any skillchain -> level 3 skillchain -> level 3 skillchain -> ultimate skillchain.
With level 3 aftermath: Level 3 skillchain -> level 3 skillchain -> ultimate skillchain.
Also, currently as of Dec. 10, 2015, we have confirmed an issue with the Marsyas. The “March+” bonus upon equipping the instrument is not being applied to the song “Honor March” that is usable by having the instrument equipped. We are planning to fix this issue.
Geas Fete Additions and Adjustments
In regards to the adjustments to battle area sizes, we have received all of your feedback, and we decided to temporarily implement the first option to decrease the battle area size.
The team’s structure may change in the future, and we would like to implement this and have you try it out while the content design lead is on the team. If there are any opinions and feedback asking to revert it back to the original size, we will adjust it as needed, so we thank you for your cooperation.
Also, as we noted in the version update notes, the effect of the Key Item “radialens” now persists even if the character is not logged in. The effect duration will deplete even while logged out, but originally the effect ran out the moment the user logged off, so we have implemented this as a way to fix that.
The temporary item “Revitalizer” is a powerful medicine and leaving it as is would necessitate the need to nerf it, so it has been replaced with the “Super Revitalizer” that does not reset SP abilities.
Additionally, as a special treat, we would like to reveal some hints for the hidden notorious monsters that were added in the November and December version updates. The key items and materials required are listed below (some item names are hidden).
Unity Concord
Equipment sets for Unity have been added. Summoning the corresponding Unity leader while wearing the equipment will apply a small status bonus. The bonus will increase with higher ranking.
Also, all of this equipment can be stored with the Porter Moogle, so try your hand at collecting them all.
Equipment Adjustments
Certain items of the following sets have been adjusted.
Lustratio Gear / Souveran Gear / Argosy Gear / Rao Gear
Apogee Gear / Carmine Gear / Emicho Gear / Ryuo Gear
Adhemar Gear / Amalric Gear / Kaykaus Gear
The gear obtained from Reisenjima Geas Fete battle content is powerful, so we have adjusted some of the abjuration equipment to hopefully catch up to it. With these adjustments, the gear strength should fall in the following order: HQ abjuration equipment > Reisenjima equipment > NQ abjuration equipment. However, it should be noted that some pieces may not follow this order.
Emote Additions
A jump emote has been added. This is something that was suddenly created, though not quite as sudden as the adjustment to the beetle’s right front leg. However, this does not function as a means of movement within the game.
Similar to the “/sitchair” emote, this is a special emote, but please give it a try.
Directly Picked Vana’diel
This is a new segment of the show that utilizes the questionnaire feature of the Nico Nico Live Broadcasting. Users are able to answer questions on various topics with the questionnaire, and the development team explains directly on in “Directly Picked Vana’diel.”
Making his second appearance on the show, Lead Event Planner Saito aided us in giving answers.
Now for the first question.
“When augmenting gear from Reisenjima with Arcane Glyptics, what items do you most often use?”
Below are the results of the questionnaire:
Pellucid Stone: 29.6%
Fern Stone : 13.3%
Taupe Stone: 17.0%
Other: 40.1%
There were a lot of viewers who chose “Other” as their answer since they have yet to obtain this gear.
Pellucid Stones allow for high values of attack and accuracy, Fern Stones have higher values for ability-related properties, and Taupe Stones allows for a high value of STR to be added.
Also included in “Other” are those that choose to trade in Dark Matter with their equipment and gain a special Arcane Glyptic. Among them is “Treasure Hunter” which is a property that cannot be obtained through normal Arcane Glyptics. Also among the best results include having “Double Attack +5%”, “Triple Attack +4%” and “Quadruple Attack +3%” all at the same time. Dark Matter also has a chance to yield higher stat gains than other stones. For example, a Pellucid Stone can give up to +40 but Dark Matter can give up to +50.
Since Dark Matter is an item in low supply, we have thought of implementing a new campaign that would let the user use Dark Matter for their Arcane Glyptics up to 3 times in a day, but there have been requests to let the user use them even more than that, so we will implement a campaign that will let you do this up to 6 times a day--meaning you use this for a weapon and 5 pieces of gear. Please look forward to this!
Onto the second question.
“Which of the following holds the highest sway in the power balance of Vana’diel?”
The following is a tally of the answers we received:
Altana: 40.3%
Promathia: 5.4%
Bahamut: 5.4%
Crystals: 48.8%
Crystals do in fact hold the highest sway in the power balance followed by Altana, Promathia, and finally Bahamut. However, this is only speaking in terms of the Vana’diel that you see in the game today. Had it been in the world as it was originally, Altana and Promathia would be at the same level. Provenance Watcher would also be somewhere in between Altana and Promathia.
This is all in terms of their deific hierarchy and not related to their actual strength and power. For example, when it comes to Cait Sith and Bahamut, godhood-wise Cait Sith is higher ranking, but in a battle Bahamut would like win. One thing to note as well is that Abyssea is a world where the borders of the world no longer exist, so all beings are even.
What if Vana’diel…
This is another new segment that we started where we’ll discuss aspects and ideas for Vana’diel that didn’t quite make it into the game.
The first for today is that there was actually one more chapter for the Seekers of Adoulin story.
Separate from the ending for Seekers of Adoulin that everyone is familiar with, there was actually a different ending planned. We determined that it would be difficult to implement this, and instead we adopted the ending that you can currently play. If you look at the video, we showed off some images of Tartarus, an area that we planned on adding. This is a realm that was created by Hades, though he has no knowledge of the fact that he made it. Additionally, we showed off an illustration of the boss that awaited in Tartarus, which is a manifestation of Hades absorbing August’s power. Another idea we had was to create a boss that was a fusion of Balamor and Omega.
Next is how we were going to originally implement Empyrean armor as different color Artifact armor.
About one year prior to implementing Abyssea we had planned on implementing new equipment based on Artifact armor with modified colors and pieces. However, we ultimately ended up completely redesigning the equipment.
As a matter of fact, the original design for Masamune was completely different at first. Since there were a lot of great katanas that looked similar, we ended up redesigning it to what it is currently.
Finally, we originally had plans to make it so Galkas could have two food effects active at the same time.
When we were designing the system for food, we originally had two slots for effects, but the effects at that time and what we ended up implementing were quite different, and we determined that it would be too powerful to have two effects at the same time. We thought to possibly reduce the effect duration to compensate, but ultimately decided to scrap this idea.
Campaign and Event Announcements
We’re planning to hold a variety of campaigns and events both in and out of the game, so please look over the schedule.
New Year Adventurer Assistance Campaign
This campaign is set for a slightly longer duration, so please take advantage of it during the holidays!
It’s active from Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. (PST) to Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 6:59 a.m. (PST).
Starlight Celebration
By using the Leaf Bench item that can be obtained from this seasonal event, you’ll learn a new sitting emote. It works great with the Astral Cube item that can be obtained from the December Login Campaign, which makes it possible to seat three people at once.
Rhapsodies of Vana’diel Ending Song Video
We’ve released a promotional video for the Rhapsodies of Vana’diel ending song. Many of you contributed to the chorus, and those who did were added to the credits. Be sure to watch the video!
Shantotto joins Dissidia FINAL FANTASY
Shantotto has been added to the Dissidia FINAL FANTASY arcade game. As her HP gets lower she starts to become enraged and becomes more powerful. If you have the opportunity, please be sure to try her out.
Conclusion
Thanks to everyone’s support, we were able to usher in the ending to Rhapsodies of Vana’diel. During development while performing checks on the scenario, we were becoming teary eyed as it made us think about everything that we had made over the past thirteen years. I’m sure you can all feel this too. If you haven’t yet, please experience the climatic ending of this scenario.
As I mentioned in my message on PlayOnline, from April 2016 onward we will be placing a focus on battles and story content. Around that time as well, we will also be planning on adding in mounts other than chocobos. Though we are still touching this system up, I showed off a demo of the raptor mount during the stream. Naturally we are planning to add other monsters as mounts as well, so stay tuned.
The next version update is schedule for February, so I’ll see you again around then!

With this said, it would be difficult to make adjustments so that it would be possible to fight without the aid of support jobs.
Additionally, we recently introduced new NMs to Reisenjima, so we have no plans to make adjustments at the moment.

Hi.
Dev tracker is a kind of feed in Official Forum that highlight (in the left side bar) posts from development team to players demands, questions and sugestion. Given that those answers are given by someone who effectively works with the deveopment of this game, they can be considered as official and true.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/forum.php
The japanese side of OF has its own dev tracker, that normally is way more active and detailed than english side. If someone feel like translating it to bring the info, feel welcomed too.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/search.php?searchid=15480698
BG site has one specific topic just to publish and discuss those official answers, and i think ffxiah lacks something similar as not everyone here check BG or OF, so lots of details/dev opinion are missed. So, thats the point of this topic, anyone who see new info in dev tracker feeds, quote it here, and start a discussion if you feel like.
Starting now, a couple of new dev posts were released after march update annoucement. Here they are:
Trust changes
Quote: [dev1261] Alter Ego Adjustments
It will be possible to summon alter egos in the following content.
Walk of Echoes
Wanted battles
It will be possible to summon alter egos in the following mission battlefields.
Wings of the Goddess missions
When Wills Collide / Maiden of the Dusk
It will be possible to summon alter egos for the following quest battlefields.
Wings of the Goddess quests
Champion of the Dawn / The Dawn Also Rises / A Forbidden Reunion
-----
Dev answer to a sugestion to add new ways to obtain dusk type of alluvion skirmish stone.
Quote: Since dusk-type stones were just implemented, we'd like players to do alluvion skirmishes to obtain them, so there are no plans to add the ability to trade other items for these stones at the moment.
However, we'll look into increasing the amount in circulation and the means of obtaining them in some way in a future version update.
Monster rearing news:
Quote: [dev1262] Mog Garden Adjustments
Monster Rearing will undergo the following adjustments.
A monster's mood will no longer degrade from "beaming with pure contentment" after collecting items or interacting with the monster.
The collective moods of all creatures will generate auras of light or darkness that affects them all.
Light
When the number of creatures beaming with pure contentment is greater than that succumbing to darkness, all creatures’ contentment and mood are increased.
Darkness
