The site has been updated.

  • [XI] The achievement process got stuck, and it's been un-stuck.

  • [XI] Item Level will now show in Power Search results.

  • [XI] Tooltips for new gear have been fixed.

  • [XI] Tooltips will now show item level (some are cached and will take a while to update).

  • [XI] Tooltips will now show superior level (some are cached and will take a while to update).

  • [XI] Ergon weapons will now count towards achievement points, but don't display yet. They are equal to a 119 Mythic.

  • [XI] Inactive servers in the Database section are now reflected as such.

  • [XI] Various internal data structures has been cleaned up.

  • [XIV] The front page now has Eorzea Time listed. This is based on your local computer time, so may be a minute or so off in either direction.

  • [XIV] The right side menu has been adjusted to remove 'New' from some items, and add a couple of new placeholders.

  • [XIV] XI character name links in the PM dialog from the XIVPro side send you to their proper sub-site, if it's not the English site.

  • The "Spam or Scam" reporting option has been split into "Spam/Offtopic" and "Scam".

  • Country flags now give tooltips in all locations.

  • The Twitch icon is now showing properly.

  • The LoL icon is now showing properly.

  • The spacing around badges and social icons has been fixed.

  • Amiibo badges have been awarded.

  • Blacklists are now bi-directional. If you block someone, you can't see their posts, and they can't see yours. Still subject to the issues with quoting.

The XIV dat miner is now extracting data! It's not 100%, but I've deciphered the new format so progress should move more quickly now.

It worked locally, because I had other changes alongside it that didn't get into the patch.

But yeah, super annoying.

Could you change "It's harassing a friend" into "It's harrassing a user" or into something similar neutral?

Could be like the people who implement our workplace software changes and test on the people who actually have to use it...after you've changed their old, working functionality, as if they didn't have anything to do...

*grumble*

Do you have an online ticket submission system?

Start putting in a bunch of tickets for the app owners, *** with their metrics.

I just say it's pornography. I'm pretty sure that bumps it up the mental queue.

Ayyy for the dawn of an age where you can talk ***about people and you can't report them!!

Maybe if you don't want people to read what you write then you shouldn't be posting publicly?

It's pandering to hypocrisy imo. And just makes p&r slightly more convulted to read(you don't need to logout).

Can you make an "other" category and have the reporter fill it out?

So if people blacklist me, they can't read what I wrote and I can't read what they wrote? How is that fair?

Ehhh, yeah. I understand what Rooks was going for, but that has the potential to make for some really confusing reads. If two people are dominating a conversation and one of them has blacklisted you, it would just seem really weird to have one person talking to his or her self.

Edit: Also, this makes it really easy to determine exactly who has blacklisted you, when before it was at least semi-anonymous.

It was asked for, and wasn't a ton of work to implement, so I'm giving it a try. There's certainly cases where it will stop problems from getting started in the first place. If it ultimately turns out to cause more problems than it solves, it'll go away, simple as that.

I'm never married to any particular feature, and occasionally experiments aren't going to work out (that's why they're experiments!). The upside of a frequent patch cycle is that we can see what works and what doesn't, and adjust appropriately.

I guess my biggest takeaway from it so far is: "Holy crap, you people are block happy!"

And I'm more or less fine with that, though I can't imagine there's that much surprise at finding out who has blocked you. Like, if someone was just randomly blocked without any prior interaction, that would be weird, but I imagine that people on block lists are there for a reason.

Are there really that many surprises? (Honest question!)

This gets asked for fairly often, but I'd have to alter the structure of reports quite a bit to make that work. I could add an "other" which would require a mod to actually PM someone, but that's adding more manual steps to the process.

It's trivial to add static reasons, though. Are there rule breaking scenarios that aren't covered by the existing options?

Turns out you can do that! Who knew?

Or, can for the next week, anyway. I've fixed that locally, so it'll go out next Tuesday.

The option "Contains hate speech or attacks an individual" applies to a lot of Linkshell Ni, however it gives a dropdown box of specific "hate speech" items and doesn't let you choose "attacks an individual"

"Offtopic" can cover a lot though, but it would be nice to be specific, because that can be abused pretty easily.

And is there really a need for "excessive profanity" report button?

Because if so, you are a **** **** ******* **** ****** ***** **** **********!

I assume "excessive profanity" is basically "spam caliente", where the it's just the whole content of a post. It's possible it predates the filter, too.

Offtopic is probably fine as it is; we have a number of threads without a fixed topic, so if people want to just ramble, those are available. Threads with an actual topic should try to stick to it. I guess I don't see it as any more abusable than the reporting system in general.

Ni's problems go beyond the scope of this thread. Suffice to say that I am aware. But yeah, I should break hate speech and personal attacks into two categories, though personal attacks fall under harassment too, which is how most people report it. Doesn't hurt anything to split it out, though, so that'll go in next week.

Genuinely asking: does it matter?

I'm not a mod, so I don't know how the back-end works, but I would imagine that 99% of the time, merely flagging a post such that a mod goes to read it (because I know you guys do read what's going on before doing anything) should be sufficient. I presume the system logs who initiated the flag, so if there's any confusion, a private message could get a fuller explanation.

For the most part, you're right; I'll have conversations with people about why they reported something if it's not immediately obvious (and usually even if it is, so people know action's been taken). I split them because I was asked to and the change was trivial to implement. They are different, after all.

If something's easy to do, and potentially beneficial, I'm pretty likely to do it if asked. Worst case scenario is having to revert it the next week. Like, report category changes are a line of SQL (maybe two!), so if a change will benefit people and it takes me thirty seconds to do, why wouldn't I do it?
