Yisss gimme selfdriving cars!
Or just one for me is fine really if no one else wants.
I like driving, but I still think within our lifetimes we'll see driverless cars take the majority of driving duties out of the hands of people. Driving will become like driving stick now; an archaic function of leisure, not necessity.

But to most people if you say you got an automatic they ask you why did you get an accident? Like it implies being handicapped in some way.

Yeah, I know manual transmission is a bit more common in the Eurosphere. But I also get the impression you don't have nearly as many people commuting in personal vehicles on a daily basis in most places. How can they? Have you seen how narrow a lot of the roads are?
Even out in the open it's still narrow. Not many places have more than 1 lane for traffic.
I mean sure, a lot of the architecture was built during the horse/buggy days, if that. But most places (except a few cities, like Berlin or London) are still narrow streets.
Not saying it's bad or anything. Whatever works for them, right?

Places are also a lot closer to each other than in America.
Most countries in Europe are slightly smaller than Texas (France is only a couple hundred square feet smaller than Texas), to put it into perspective.
So, it's not hard to imagine how traffic is in regards to Europe, if you have never been there before. But you do need to see it to believe it.

I didn't assume anything. I said I got the impression.
Having a hard time finding numbers though, I'd be interested in the actual data on that considering, population wise, Rome and Pittsburgh are about the same size.
I have no idea what Rome's public transportation is like.
But Pittsburgh's is utter ***.

Luckily I don't live in or work in Pittsburgh. I go there for sporting events, and private transportation works just fine for that purpose.
