Niks apparently not familiar with the LAPD's Rampart scandal. Or the Rodney King riots. Or whistleblowers like Frank Serpico who exposed rampant corruption in the NYPD, whose fellow officers then tried to have him killed. Or the almost 1200 people killed by police this year. http://killedbypolice.net/

Found your problem LA is a hell hole.

I can think of quite a few times when they should be able to turn the cameras off. Not sure why this would be so surprising? I wouldn't be happy to know that anyone could request to view a video of the inside of my home. I wouldn't want there to be video of some naked child that had just been raped. Or knowing that a video of my family member in a vulnerable position is available for who knows who to view. What about confidential informants? I'm sure they want video of them singing like a canary out there for people to view. If these cameras are always running, they're catching citizens in some of their most vulnerable times. Victims have rights to privacy.

If your on duty outside the police station, camera on period. When the officer turns their gear into the armory, then the camera can be turned off. As a public official anything they do while in pursuit of their duties is considered public record. We just finally have the technology to preserve that record instead of relying on them writing / fabricating a "report".

Or did you miss the parts where they turn it off, plant drugs, then turn it on and "surprise" find drugs then arrest someone based on the "found" drugs. The only reason we know about this is the officers were ignorant on how the camera's actually work.

I didn't miss anything. I just responded to you going ape ***over there never being any time or reason for them to question whether their camera should be on or off.

Avoid jackrabbit starts, unsignaled or abrupt lane changes, bumper riding, and red cars. All those things attract the eyes of cops.

Not in PA they don't...

the almost 1200 people killed by police this year. http://killedbypolice.net/

thank you for providing that statistic Shruiken. now here is the math.

Did you know that you are twice as likely to die of constipation than you are being killed by a police officer?

or that you are three times as likely to be run over by a farm tractor?

or that you are ten times more likely to strangle yourself accidentally with your own blankets?

weird causes of death

1200 is 0.00036363636363636% of our total population 330,000,000

that means a statistically insignificant number of people die each year at the hands of police officers.

by contrast we killed 70,000 ISIS militants this year so NO sav it's NOT safer to be an ISIS militant as you suggested.

so you are 58 times more likely to die being an isis dumbass.

Which is why I asked for statistics in the first place. Hoping beyond hope that if you did the math yourself you would actually learn something.

yes so there are 1.1 million law enforcement officers in the US.

let's assume, just for arguments sake, that all 1,200 officer caused deaths were murder ok? so 1,200 officers that's .001090909

Not 1% that's 1/10th of 1% .1% percent for the slow kids in the back of the class.

now then let's go ahead and implicate all of their partners because cops travel in pairs. So now we're up to two tenths of a percent. and let's get even more ridiculous and say all of the other eight responding officers and investigators are also guilty.

NOW we're at 1%

1% of the total number of cops that even have second hand knowledge of these instances.

so how then are the other 99% of cops who weren't even there covering it up?

THEY AREN'T

they weren't even there!

ok so now back to your two examples LA and NYPD... Do you know how many police officers were involved in either of these two incidents? probably not...

LAPD has 9,000 officers NYPD has 40,000 let's just say they are all guilty, for fun and then let's round it up to 50,000 for the sake of math what percentage of cops works for these two departments?

The 99.9% of good cops who lie and protect the 0.1% of bad cops are also abusing the public's trust. That's pretty damn rampant.

so simple math dictates that the basis of your argument is fundamentally flawed at the statistical level.

there is no possible way mathematically that the other 99.9% of cops could even know what the .1% are doing on a daily basis.

and how many cops did you ask about the blue line or wall? was it 1.1 million? I highly doubt it. so your personal experience that you are using for your frame of reference is also mathematically insignificant.

again we are talking about 1.1 MILLION COPS nationwide

you didn't ask them all and you didn't ask a mathematically significant number of them by any stretch of the imagination.

You therefore have NO IDEA of the size and scope of your supposed problem.

/grades your paper

Here's a heraldic definition:

A beast rampant (Old French: "rearing up") is depicted in profile standing erect with forepaws raised.

Let's make one!

The significance level, also denoted as alpha or α, is the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true. For example, a significance level of 0.05 indicates a 5% risk of concluding that a difference exists when there is no actual difference.

So it has to be above 5% to achieve minimal statistical significance at all.

Rampant could also mean widespread... so we could use the infectious disease models and iirc that's 33.3% in order to receive a classification of widespread the disease has to infect one third of the population.

so the black plague was rampant....

So every cop in america would have to shoot and kill approximately ten people each year 110,000,000 before you could classify it as "rampant" or widespread. I suppose some of them could kill more to cover the spread...

But they would all have to kill at least one person in order to gain statistical significance which is already impossible.
