does the azimuth earring +1 and +2 defeat the effects of idris? the idris description says the higher number takes effect and the earrings both win in that regard. is there a hidden effect that makes idris better or are the earrings in fact more potent than idris due to the higher geomancy + number?

Idris gives a bonus to "Geomancy" which is a separate potency modifier. The earring gives a bonus to "Geomancy Skill" which is a bonus to the skill point.

"Geomancy+10" and "Geomancy skill +10/12" are two completely different things. Geomancy skill will increase your magic skill by the amount listed on the gear which with master levels is completely useless. As the above poster pointed out Geomancy+10 increases the potency of your bubbles by a set amount. The only piece of gear that comes close to Idris is the GEO neck +2 with Geomancy +7.

only thing the base stats on the jse earring provide in regards to geomancy is making it easier to hit 900 combined skill and fill the rest with conserve MP/empy set bonus

True, but you're giving up a conserve MP slot to get this skill which is laughably easy to cap already. You shouldn't use the JSE earring in your indi- or geo- spell sets, unless you need the DT

ML0 GEO with merits needs 50 total skill from all gear to get 900. Dunna gives 18, so it's really 32.

Would have been funny if they did make the +1 earring Geomancy +12 since it is harder to obtain than Idris anyway.
