I feel like he only has one option; push forward. To do otherwise at this point looks bad.

Clinton was acquitted in the senate. You know, the whole due process thing that seems to be the main argument against the delay in the confirmation process even though it's not really applicable as kavanaugh hasn't been charged with anything.

A couple things here. One, Clinton was acquitted on political grounds. There was never a question of whether or not he committed perjury, because nobody could deny it.

As far as Kavanaugh is concerned, due process may not be "applicable", but it should still play a key role even in politics. Objective reasoning should take precedence over baseless pandering to emotions. Otherwise, anyone could make up literally any accusation that cannot be disproved for the sole purpose of destroying a candidate. Whether or not the accusation is based on reality, the fact that Ford is already making bank off of this is going to bring out opportunistic, phony copycats, which does far more damage to #MeToo than anything else.

Given the amount of #MeToo scandals involving famous Democrats lately, don't think for a minute that this isn't going to boomerang hard at some point. We'll see how sympathetic you are when a "brave and credible" witness without proof is destroying your candidate. To prepare yourself, maybe you should read You'd Better Put Some Ice On That: How I Survived Being Raped by Bill Clinton. I'm sure you'll find her credible. After all, she had more evidence than Ford ever did.

I would recommend placing huge bets on the notion that that he will withdraw. Nevermind the fact that I will be placing bets that he won't. I have no qualms with getting easy money.

Yeah, Kavanaugh withdrawing is about as likely as Trump resigning.

He has a second option: Cooperate with the FBI in full, submit to a polygraph test, and let the results show what they may.
"I will cooperate with whatever the committee wants to do." or something of that nature.

It depends on what all goes into this FBI investigation.

Too bad you didn't bet against my prediction that a combo of Flake/Murkoswki/Collins would force an FBI investigation, I could have gotten a free +

Me, bet against the idea that Flake would cave at the slightest provocation? Please.

You seemed pretty adamant that an FBI investigation would not happen.

I was adamant that an FBI investigation was pointless. Given the state of the neverending and useless Mueller investigation, I also never fathomed that they could be limited to a week to investigate a ham sandwich, let alone a series of vague accusations.

I'm also skeptical that they can investigate the many allegations in 1 week. Especially if they look into Debra Ramirez, which obviously they should. Is she even going to be allowed to testify now that they have advanced the nomination?

There has to be some reason in all this too, though. You can't expect the entire country to wait on pins and needles for every minor detail of your claim to be vetted at the federal level just because you didn't feel like coming forward until the eleventh hour after supposedly sitting on it for decades.

The FBI should do what it's designed to do in these situations. That is, interview some people, collect some basic information, and then turn it over to the Senate for review. A week is enough for that, unless Flake continues to wet his pants every time a protester gets within 10 feet of him, causing him to demand more delays.

The country will be just fine while the vetting process takes place. Especially since public support for Kavanaugh is so low.

They are gonna face off in the first round, but really, your boss has had a good life as a Yankees fan.

Yes, I frequently hear about their number of championships.

Their doing it to provide cover for the moderates and a handful of Republicans who might be in at-risk political situations. We know the FBI won't find ***, there is a reason it declined to do anything when it was first informed. As the Prosecutor said, there isn't enough evidence here to justify a search warrant. So yes they'll take some statements and from those statements make a report saying they can't find any corroborating evidence for the allegations.

FBI doesn't determine guilt or innocence, they do investigations, write reports and submit those reports to the Justice department, or in this case the Senate. It was very wise for the Republicans to set a hard time limit and thus preventing the Democrats from dragging their feet on making the "investigation" take months. Most government workers are Democrats, a good number of which are hard core leftist types.

lol, that was funny. Also, none of the 3 swing votes are "at risk." And if it takes longer than a week, then it will take longer. But at least Saevel kept it relatively short.

Wait, are people still pretending that they care about finding the truth about what happened? I expect to hear that from Congress, but come on. You guys want this to stretch past the midterms so that you have a chance of gaining a majority and kicking Kavanaugh to the curb regardless of the results of any investigation.

Please don't insult our intelligence by acting like you care about anything else.

I think they wanted to also use it as a fishing expedition to try to see if they can fabricate find some skeletons. That's why President Trump preemptively authorized it to be a limited supplementary background investigation with a one week time limit. By putting that out there he prevented the Democrats from fabricating their own witch hunt with a 2025 time limit that's authorized to look into anything the Democrats feel warrants a look.

The FBI's background investigation won't find anything it hasn't already found, add a few pages of testimony from the three people Ford, and only Ford, has named where there, who have already said under oath they don't remember the incident. They might ask those individuals what Kavanaugh's character is like, and then close the record.

Part of that depends on how "deep state" one thinks that the FBI is. The cynic in me says that the report will come out saying something to the tune of, "Golly gee. We didn't find anything, but you know, these things can take months and months to sort out. We need a lot more time."

In other words, watch for them to give a huge baton handoff to Democrat Senators in order to stretch this nonsense out further.
