So for Drain purposes the only real options using weapon bash are:

Scythe
Weapon Bash > Nightmare Scythe = Compression
Weapon Bash > Insurgency = Compression
Weapon Bash > Infernal Scythe = Compression

Great Axe
Weapon Bash > Upheaval = Compression
Weapon Bash > Keen Edge = Compression

This is what I was looking for. Thank you sir. So it's safe to say there is no G.Sword option, right? I think I'll make a Father Time knowing this information since there doesn't seem to be a higher Drain Potency (scythe) weapon. (It's a shame that R15 Apoc gets +10% in comparison, which is nice, but ...oh well, thanks SE).

I have r15 Apoc and still swap to Misanthropy for D3, Dacomania also has the 20% boost. So for me adding a set for Infernal Scythe using AF Hands to close the chain-bound effect is the way to go. Pretty Shi**y though that the DRK can make Darnkness with this...

I was swapping to Misanthrop for Drain3 before, but sent it to my mule and wondered why my set tanked a bit. Thanks for the reminder.

Does anyone know if Chainbound interrupts skillchains if used with improper properties (for when skillchains are bad)?

For example, will Torcleaver > Weapon Bash (with augment) > Torcleaver give Light or nothing?

I feel like this is the proverbial "Pool on the roof." I tried this a few times, and nothing. Does it show up when using skillchains lua?

Torc just doesn't work with these gloves.

Just tested this as I wasn't certain, but it does interrupt your skillchain.

I thought I'd share my maximum possible potency Drain 3 set (while under the effects of Dark Seal + Nether Void). Please note, I went extremely high-end, only slightly prioritizing Drain Potency over Magic Accuracy spectrum. Any/all constructive feedback welcome.

ItemSet 370409

Father Time Path C
Niht Mantle is Dark Magic+10 and Drain Potency+25
Carmine Body happens to be Path D (because I play COR too).

Edit: Since I have a toggle if I want to lose TP when I cast Drain3 for drain3, I decided to include Khonsu and Ullr for additional Magic Accuracy, when that toggle is enabled.

I could be wrong, and someone please correct me if I am, but I thought that MAB didn't affect Drain? If that's the case, you could swap out Archon for Kishar for the same MACC but 4% Fast Cast. Also, Eschite Cuisses have 2 more Dark Magic skill (doubt it matters) but with Conserve MP +6/Fast Cast +5. Same with swapping Dignitary's Earring for Malignance, same MACC but gain +4 Fast Cast.

Why the gold moogle belt over Austerity Belt +1...?

Wouldn't that actually hurt you?

It's probably 10 years (ToAU days) since I really looked into how drain works so my information most certainly could be out of date so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Last I knew Drain's bonus worked like this. If you are at 1500/2000 HP and drain for 1000 hp, your new max would be 2500 hp. But if you are at 2000/2000 HP and drain for 1000, your new max would be 3000.

If that holds true, wouldn't increasing your max HP without actually curing it cause your drain bonus to be less?

Damn work making me work and preventing me from testing this!

Gear with "[Element]: Magic Atk. Bonus" isn't actually MAB, but potency for the corresponding element, which in the case of Archon Ring and Pixie Hairpin +1 does affect Drain/Aspir.

Archon works for drain since its actually a magic affinity bonus and not an actual MAB. But you are correct, MAB doesn't work with drain typically.

Eschite have +2 skill, but those relic+3 legs have 16 more MACC.
I'd personally take the higher MACC over fast cast.

As said gold moogle belt is more a detriment than a help, should be either austerity belt+1, orpheus sash, or anrin obi depending on situation. Static earring over dignitary's is another option assuming magic burst.

Under Dark Seal I doubt that 16 MACC will make any difference. Unless you get dispelled, you'll be able to ride the DS/NV timer. Also thanks Llewelyn, wasn't thinking about affinity.

When using Dark Seal, you don't need to gear for magic accuracy because it auto-caps you. Because of that, you can go for pure potency/FC by going for Abyssal Earring/Dark Earring/the new +10 dark magic earring instead of Dignitary's, Sapience Orb instead of Ullr, and Caecus Grip or Vivid Strap instead of Khonsu.

For that set above, another option is to put on Yorium Cuirass/Cuisses with Drain/Aspir potency augmented.

Thinking about it some more, wouldn't empy legs be best to help with Nether Void...?

https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Heath._Flanchard_%2B1

You still get the +20 Dark Magic skill, but buffs up NV from 50% to 85%.

You only need to equip those when you use the JA; they don't need to be on for the cast.

I probably should study spells and JAs more. I am just learning that (based on what I read) Drain is only impacted by Dark Magic Skill, Dark-based MAB, and Potency. While it would make sense that INT and M.ACC would also impact it, nothing in my reading indicates that. Perhaps it's assumed as a given. But nothing indicates that MAB doesn't, yet we seem to agree that it doesn't.

In any event, I intend to collect some of the pieces above to see how my Drain III fairs. I need the earring, the ring, and the body. Not realizing MAB doesn't impact it, I'll temporarily swap out Fallen's +3 for something else.

Magic Accuracy affects resist rate.
INT may affect resist rate, but it's incredibly hard to test.
Magic Attack Bonus does nothing.

Do you have some proof regarding Dark Seal capping magic accuracy? It just doesn't feel right to me to forgo the Fallen legs for Eschite Cuisses.

If gold moogle belt is wrong with DS+NV, is it ever used with Drain at all?

It's basically elemental seal for dark magic, typically anything youd fail to land drain on is a case of high SDT than it is a resist.

As for gold moogle belt, no, its never been used for drain, only time ive ever seen gold moogle belt at all is for SE/BW meme back in the day, general max HP builds or blu breath builds.

Take off your ilvl weapon and all magic accuracy gear, then use Dark Seal and an absorb on any very high level mob without darkness SDT (such as Apex Jagils); you'll land a non-resisted absorb every time.
