Isn't Trump the guy who removed the Pandemic Respond Team and almost cut CDC budget for infectious disease respond before Covid-19?
I don't know about you guys but the government needs to give small businesses money fast. The March billing cycle is screaming and nobody got enough revenue to cover March (sometimes February) bills.
This is going to hurt a lot. I mean A LOT of people.
You need money to pay your debt, rent, taxes.. FOOD!
You: "Hey, man. Can you pay your March bill?"
Client: "Sorry bro, I ain't got no money. Wait until May maybe?"
You: "I can't cover this month rent. Can we delay payment until June?"
Landlord: "Can you pay in April? We can discuss May afterwards."

My Walmart has started limiting the store to only like 100 people at a time. I quite like it tbh. I don't think it makes a difference? not unless they are each chaperoned by a walmart employee (in full ppe) to go around and disinfect the randomness of the shopper's infection path through out the store.

The line must stretch for days, keeping that 6' barrier.

They still let people go out in case of emergency because I don't think they are allowed to lock them during business hours.
Coming from a guy who did fire safety in my store, he said as long as people can easily get out of the building using that door in an emergency then it's okay even if we don't let people use that door normally.

SO this is something that people might want to mull over their perspective about.
You have confirmed, Recovered, and Deaths, in 3 different scales. Yes the NV may throw off this off a bit.
I posit, The Confirmed cases category do not magically mean that all of the Confirmed will recover. The actual end result is either death or recovery, all the confirmed cases are still up in the air.
So based on above numbers world Wide you are looking at 1 in 5 odds of death if you contract it.
In the US it is more like 40% chance at death, or a 2 in five chance...
In NV there have been 2 results too, no one has recovered, and 86 deaths now.....
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, but don't touch your face.

WE'RE NUMBER 1!!!
The USA now has more corona virus cases than the rest of the world!
And Trump wants to open the country up on May day!
Good thing its really up to the states. You're only #1 if China was telling the truth.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, but don't touch your face. All true. And I would like to add that these are numbers that come from medical systems that are still not all completely overwhelmed. Once we reach a point where 0% of new patients can even be admitted, the numbers will worsen dramatically.

All the doors will bust open if pushed, but still in a lot of areas aren't allowed to be locked with people inside (during business hours). I know back when I worked retail (not walmart) we got fused at by the local fire marshal a lot by locking the one door when low staffed.

Yeah, you can't lock them. At least from the inside. They usually ask you to install one of those doors that can be opened from the inside. You can add in something like an alarm if someone pushes the door. But can't block it or lock it.
Not all doors can be opened if pushed. Only rich big businesses one can have those. Smaller businesses just use the cheapest door that looks nice and probably something hefty like metal bars when they lock up during the night.
My business uses a fancy glass door in the front and side but a black metal door in the back. Had to install one of those push to open thing. We used a door nob with dead bolt before because it was just a door to the laundry room.

Because the worldwide number includes China's bad info. I wouldn't put it past other countries for pushing bad info either (I'm looking at you Spain and Italy, along with Iran and India).

According to John Hopkins, US cases is now 500k something. Not WE'RE NUMBER 1!!!

Good thing its really up to the states.
You know what per capita is right? This is like being surprised a country with 100 people has less cases than a country with 60 million.
The country with the biggest population will have more cases than smaller nations (china that is lying)
Also, near 50% of all cases are in new york alone.
That Match 26. Outdated data. It's like 500k in U.S. now according to John Hopkins

RCP is such a good site. For people who like infographics, though, here's one from the 8th:
The confirmed case fatality rate is also pretty low when compared to other countries with high per capita cases (namely Spain, Italy, Belgium, and France).
As a professional courtesy I should note that I never take any data at face value, and I'm very curious to know what the major causes of the discrepancies are within each country. But hey, it's interesting data to say the least.

Americans have a huge problem processing data and understanding its math, and as such are horrid at comparing data between sources that have a myriad of reasons they conflict.
2 weeks ago no one understood exponential growth vs additive growth, and couldn't process the 8 day lag in results to show true infection rates because of that lag. Remember the feisty "the flu is worse" comments?
Now the arguments can start regarding which country is "doing a better job". And all the data is flawed from the start even if every country was 100% honest. Its a simple thing- test RATE. Hell, if its varying as much as it is state-to-state here in the US, how much is the variance between countries?
So until we have uniform test rates between locales, its foolish to even compare per capita cases. These days I'm only looking at growth rates not actual numbers. Even if the testing rates vary, one can hope with large numbers that the rate of positive tests among those tested can be a marginal indication of rate of growth. Again, not actual numbers, but if the rate of testing stays stable at least we can see something.
And there's yet another factor- testing rate IS going up as turnaround is faster with results and larger percentages everywhere are being tested. This by simple observation would result in more positive tests numerically, but again, the raw number isn't worth a damn. But the percentages of positive vs negative, and how that percentage changes over time, should show at least something regarding trends.
So can we stop all the "Ohio is doing the best!" "New York sucks because of democratic leadership!" "China is lying!" "Spain is a cesspool!" and the like. None of it matters because data is used against the populace because those releasing it know the majority doesn't understand anything beyond pretty pictures.

You've provided the perfect example of the following:
Clus-ter-***
/'klester,fek/
noun VULGAR SLANG - US
a disasterously mishandled situation or undertaking.

If you stop for a couple seconds you would know why some places got more than others if you ignore climate and government action. If you haven't realized by now why New York, Washington or democratic places got more cases then you probably shouldn't read this anymore.
I agree that cases reported is pretty miss leading due to tests and accuracy. Death rate is a bit better even though you still have related causes vs direct causes for death rate.
Still, it's very obvious why Italy got the deep end. I'm not familiar with Spain so no clue but Italy is most likely because of very high population density plus large number of tourists.
However, this also proves that China acted very decisively. They just strong armed everyone into submission and just cook up their own data. Maybe it was worse than their data suggested (considering people just dropped dead on the street) but China did put a lid on the spread and they got back to work within 2 months.

Saw an old lady today, with a mask that was filthy with mildew and dirt (bottom half of it was literally grey/black). She had been wearing the same mask for what looks like weeks and maybe hasn't taken it off at all once in that time either.
I tried to tell her that was really bad but she was scared of anyone talking to her, so she hobbled off with it glued to her face.
Ironically, she has a far greater chance of fungal and bacterial infection (and then pneumonia) with the mask than a virus infection without it. A lot of people are re-using masks for long periods of time, most don't let them get filthy but after a certain amount of use they do no good anyway.
If we can shut down the world, we can force all our TV stations to provide proper education to people on how to use masks. That's part of why they told people not to wear the damned masks in the first place.
Not only to they not do what (you) think they do (cloth, surgical, anything not n95) but they need to be re-sterilized or they do exactly that.
Mask doesn't make you safe. mask makes you more likely to get sick, false sense of security. You don't gain instant immunity to (anything) by putting something over your face.

Check the testing per capita. also without a timeline, that is nothing more than a snapshot of the moment.
330 million (population of US) - need 1 year at 1m tests/day.
Current testing rates in US - 100k, if that.
Compare that to Merkel's mobilization of testing 3 months ago in January.
Here's a nice true story:
Thursday we received word that Trump banned the export of a certain component for manufacturing the PCR test swabs.
So we sourced it from China, who were readily available to support.
But we also put a ban on the export of another material the US is trying to acquire from us.
Friday - Trump removed ban. Because what we were importing from the US was about 500 tons per year, and what the US was importing from us was 20,000 tons.
Also, this idiot president tried to offer many of our partners billions to sell exclusively to US in the past 2 weeks. And told OUR production lines in the US and China they have to meet local demand first, before exporting. *** contractual obligations and concession agreements is their attitude. Bad bad calculation. While the production lines are there, the raw materials are not. Just move our production lines to China, shutdown production lines in US.
This administration shoots from the hip. Very unsophisticated. they do zero planning, research, risk analysis. Like dealing with a 7 year old.

I love how in a world of billions and hundreds of nations everyone has something bad to say about Trump.
Trump doesn't rule the world bro, Germany has more problems than worrying about America. Your tinpot EU union is about to go belly up and most EU nations are hating on mamma Germany for doing nothing to help them at all.
And just like there's a bunch of people from other nations vilifying Trump, there's the same amount that are ball hogs for him.
If you can be his fan, then Odinz can be a critic.

So, today was the first case of the virus being confirmed in my rural county.
This last week has been pretty insane to start. Most grocery stores have been emptied, toilet paper is non existent. Bars, hotels, and casinos have been shutdown as of yesterday, our town relies heavily on these sources of income. There are now rumors that our mine sites will soon be shutdown as well. I plan to withdraw a substantial amount of cash from the bank tomorrow morning, and hit every store I can get my hands on to get some groceries before the hoarding gets any worse.
I have heard of California being on total lockdown, as well of rumors of people even being imprisoned for attempting to leave the state.
Curious to hear how other parts of the country are getting along, surprised there isn't an official Corona-Virus thread here yet.
Crazy stuff.
