apparently the governor of washington didn't even know this was going on???
This is gonna get ugly, hope they don't squash the wonderbread.
Trump should stay out of it till they flounder into Chaos and either ask him for help or fix it themselves, after they wreck things.
Best thing he can do for himself there is stay out. Like Presidents should do till asked for help. No matter what he does, the Media will say he's wrong. But if he stays out, he can have a better chance to "point" at City and State officials to rile his base up and possibly get some to flip to his direction for votes. That's the best case for him.
Worst case, they establish a Vegan Utopia proving him wrong.
It's not that simple. There are a handful of things that will call down the wrath of god from the executive branch, threatening the life of the President is one of them, refusing to pay taxes is another, and declaring yourselves apart from the Union is the third.
Very few entities are stupid enough to attempt the third, ignoring the federal level is one thing but publicly declaring yourselves a free and antonymous government won't be tolerated. Only the most ignorant radicals are stupid enough to declare themselves self governing over a geographic region. That's fundamentally claiming territory as a free state, whether it's a 100KM area or a single city block makes no difference.
Hopefully someone beats some sense into these people and they just disappear. Worst case scenario is they appoint / elect some sort of council or executive figurehead.

I don't disagree. However there have been places to "Secede" from the union, and then carry on like everything is normal. I think there was a small town that did it in the 70s? The mayor became the president?
So, this really is going to blow up bad. President sends in military, not the national guard governers are supposed to be the authority on that.
So Trump sends in troops, governor activates the guard as a counter move, because he seems the type. And then what? They either stalemate or.... Worst case they begin fighting? ***is cereal.

IIRC, President can Federalize the NG. Correct me if I am wrong, that brings them under his Chain of Command?

Not quite; the national guard still reports to the commander in chief. He has supreme authority over them; think of them like a 'military on loan' to the states that they can mobilize for domestic issues; but if it came to fed vs state, they answer to the fed.

I believe that is for external national defense only. The national guard is meant to be a state militia, like one of its main functions is to prevent the federal level from attempting military operations against state citizens.

Yes but I recall Eisenhower putting the...Alabama NG maybe, under Federal Command to allow students into College, against the Governor's wishes.
Might have gotten away with it. But should not have been allowed, more than likely the governor bottom lined it. No national guard unit should deploy at all unless the state allows it.
Remember these rules we live by are only as powerful as the people who abide by them or enforce them.
National guard has a duty to guard against federal authority from attacking it's own citizens, part of checks and balances.
Unrelated, but what happens if say...a certain black face wearing governor sends in National Guard to restore "law and order" for "gun confiscation" in counties that declare they won't enforce unconstitutional gun laws passed by the state? Do Federal Forces protect the Citizens there?

No. Only in Washington DC can the President exert some authority over the National Guard, and that's only if the states agree to actually send their Guard to DC. And the Mayor of DC still has a lot of power. Several states said no to Trump's request for their Guard to report to DC. The National Guard is not a federal force. Right now, the only way Trump could get involved in the wildly misreported events going on in Seattle would be to invoke the zinsurrection Act and send in the US military, which he ain't gonna do.

Ur *** basically. Or the citizens fight back.
Ok kool, just wanted to make shure I understood that XD

National Guard is still part of the Armed Forces and the CinC trumps the Governor.
What happens then is purely theoretical because only one group ever attempted this, but attempting armed resistance to the US Military is known as "rebellion".
That's all super far fetched though and kinda extreme, this will likely fizzle out once pressure is put on these folks.

No...there are no "federal forces." You're SOL.
Well then...it's up to the Citizens to resist then?

Time will tell, it also depends on if the actual boots on the ground are willing to fight with their own neighbors.

Not quite, National Guard are part of the US Armed Forces. They get trained in the exact same places as the rest of us, same ranks, same command structure, only difference being they are made available to a states Governor in times of emergency. National Guard still reports to big Army.
The States do not get their own private militaries.
Quote:
During peacetime each state National Guard answers to leadership in the 50 states, three territories and the District of Columbia. During national emergencies, however, the President reserves the right to mobilize the National Guard, putting them in federal duty status.
While federalized, the units answer to the Combatant Commander of the theatre in which they are operating and, ultimately, to the President.
Even when not federalized, the Army National Guard has a federal obligation (or mission.) That mission is to maintain properly trained and equipped units, available for prompt mobilization for war, national emergency, or as otherwise needed.
The Army National Guard is a partner with the Active Army and the Army Reserves in fulfilling the country's military needs.
So in Alabama or wherever, the Governor blinked when playing chicken with Eisenhower?
I think your referring to Governor George Wallace vs JFK? In that case, JFK issued an EO that federalized the Guard, I doubt such an order would stand up to legal scrutiny in this day and age.
