Are you able to thumbs up the same message? I heard of people doing a message few minutes before JP midnight and thumbs upping the same message 6 times. No idea if that counts. I know some ppl love to send warnings and mute just for saying good morning.

Since you have 10 minutes to thumbsUp a message, I can totally see this working (Up'ing the same message 6 times and it still counting).

The MMJ boss in besieged is healed by magic, right? Would it be possible to intentionally lose besieged by getting enough people to heal him?

I haven't done monstrosity yet but I'm Rank 8 ...do you mean you did 75 species in monstrosity or level 75 a single species?

When he does arcane stomp, he temporarily absorbs all magic damage. It does wear off, but he can do it whenever. Also, it hits all other mobs in range and lets them absorb magic damage too.
Very annoying move.

I count every skin I should say. So 75 skins out of like 153.

What I’m starting to wonder is if missions present themselves as gates to a ranking up. If I ran exact parallel accounts I could test this. Maybe I could rack up all the titles and achievements in the world but unless I do these certain missions, I can’t progress past a certain rank. Just a thought.

So you would need to make sure other annoying monsters are around him (enough to not end besieged), feed him a ton of TP, and spam magic after Arcane Stomp. Seems possible, unlike the undead swarm or trolls.

Well, if the goal is griefing, since smn buffs hit everyone in besieged, you can just spam Ifrit's enfire on everyone fighting him so they all heal him every hit.
Sensible people would click it off though.

Magic damage is typically pretty ***in besieged compared to melee, so it may not work anyway.

I can definitely ascertain this to be true. While I was rank 7, I did all of nation missions, then the optional nation missions, then the RoEs, after I had already purchased 1 CP Armor piece at each Nation Rank. (Of course, I zoned after each attempt to try to observe a rank up). It wasn't until I traded Kupipi a rolanberry for the Portal Charm, did I rank up to 8. ....So, all of the mission related content appear to be a package-deal.

Been working on Monstrocity some, I got HC Gladiator(just sitting on the points) and unlocked all/most of the easy monsters and got most them to least lv.30

Missing 266 titles. I wonder if i should start title hunting or keep working on monstrocity? Rank 7. Thanks.

I highly doubt the gold flag matters, and I'm a bit unsure on Limbus/Chocographs myself. Honestly, I'd recommend just finishing up those Campaign Ops, titles, and Monstrosity.


I doubt the Prime weapon matters, and MLs probably only count in so much as they increase your possible combat/magic skills. I think Moogle Mastery and Ody clears *might* count, but I'm not sure. I would have expected a crafting shield to count for more, but Liam has shown that it's not required for Rank 9.

I don't know, maybe. The game *does* keep track of when you earn those Ballista titles (you can check with the NPC in Jeuno), regardless of whether the bards let you reset the titles. Similarly, the merit NPCs keep track of your VD HTBF clears, regardless of whether the bard is bugged for that title.

Regarding Monstrosity, my theory is that it doesn't directly count as a whole lot by itself, there's just a LOT of things to unlock in there. As you level up your monsters, they learn abilities (similar to your player learning weaponskills along the way) complete with the lightbulb animation and everything. I believe that learning spells/abilities factors into Mastery Rank (I think this was confirmed?). I just think that each of those monster abilities count the same as regular player abilities. Instincts may also count similarly, which you get for each monster family at level 30/60/90. So someone who hasn't touched Monstrosity is simply missing a *bunch* of abilities, lowering their rank. Keep in mind, obtaining all of the abilities/instincts for each monster type means that you need to be damn close to fully completing Monstrosity, which is a LOT of work.

I'm also not convinced that ephemeral titles don't matter. Even if there's no way for us to see them, that doesn't mean that they aren't tracked on the server.

I just really don't want to do Ballista, so I'll probably try to do 2~3 Master Trials first.

It's possible the total chevron earned counters count for something, but I think that's distinct from the titles which almost certainly "lose" whatever they would contribute once no longer present for a character, as the bard treats it as if you've never had it before. The NPC doesn't even differentiate between different job chevrons, it's just a sum total of how many times you got one of the 22, but at the same time it also gives you one even if you don't accept the title and take the gold chevron instead, and if memory serves you don't have access to the title you didn't pick.

Idk, we'll see I guess. I would love to know if anyone manages to exactly rank up after getting a chevron title and then does nothing at all for a week, returns it, and see if the rank drops again. But I know that's wishful thinking both for someone to catch that exactly there and also not do anything at all for a week to influence it afterwards heh.

Comparing myself to Navius, I'm behind in a handful of gaol clears and one master trial, the 1000 mazes title, and that's basically it other than monstrosity. He's right in that there's a large amount of things that could count for rank, like species levels, species unlocks, instincts unlocked/bought, etc. So its possible that's the sole thing blocking me from rank 9.

You keep everything - Conquest Points, Outpost Warps, anything I'm forgetting. Basically you go into cold storage for the nation you left and come back the exact same whenever you come back.

The main thing that stands out now is that Liam and Navius both have Sealed Fate MT done (and I don't) but even with Crystal Paradise cleared, it may not matter if something like, the first four MT are for rank 9, and the final 3 are for rank 10.

Monstrosity looks like a lot of points but Liam (maybe?) has all species unlocked but the highest leveled one is 70. I have all unlocked, 15/64 99, all others 60+.

As for campaign ops, I completed the only Fiat Lux I was missing this morning, so all Bastok ops are done, and my total is something like 226/246. Sandy seems to permanently own everything around so they never have the offensive ops available.

Chocobo Digging is now A30. Maybe 3 more successful Hot and Cold for Jungle Chocograph. Buburimbu *** sucks.

Or I just haven't done enough Limbus climbs.

I've been doing a fair amount of Monstrosity and Campaign Ops the past few weeks, but hitting A50 in Chocobo Digging is what finally tipped me over to Rank 9.

Other relevant information: I copied over my previous list from Rank 8 back in 2021. Anything new between then and now is bolded.

A minor correction, outpost warps are shared between nations now. You can switch to Sandy and get a free Ronfaure, then go to Bastok and get a free Gustaberg, then back to Windurst and you can still teleport to either. It was a change made some while ago, but all three are added together and never reset any more.

I too remember the rarity of a nation taking over the starter region and getting that outpost back in the day, heh. But thankfully unnecessary any more. As soon as you switch you will be able to still use any warps from your prior nation(s) you've done before.

Out of pure curiosity, here's me as a rank 8 compared to what you have:

Mini update - hit 246/246 campaign ops - and if that does count for anything it is not enough to jump to rank 9 without medal of Altana.

Also unlocked 10 more species in monstrosity, 2 relic +3 KI's and a bunch more GP kis. Now A30 in digging and did a 10* hunt just in case lol. Got the Cor Ballista chevron this week so will get ballistager and hopefully extremely discerning next week. after that it will be a while until i can get anything new title-wise.

Have we seen a rank 9 without v25 clears? Also @ranoutofspace, do you have a relic weapon? they give the fanfare (same as portal charm :D) when you complete, maybe having one would mean something?

For those farming gold flags, it seems like you can Thumbs Up from characters new enough to have Assist Channel access as well. You're capped at maybe 3 Thumbs Up/day, but it makes it easy to hit 3 if you have a bunch of free login mules.

Based on this.... I think it's a fair assumption that the Master Trials count for quite a great deal.

I'd be SHOCKED with your accolades if you cleared Crystal Paradise and didnt hit 9.

I think you have 2 options:

1.) Do a Master Trial, check your mastery rank, repeat
2.) Unlock a monstrosity species, check your mastery rank, repeat.

Which one are you leaning towards? I personally would choose #2, because monstrosity seems like content that SE would give us whole credit for partial effort. (unlike say Nation Mission content, where we obviously must do them all).

Also, your choice will help me and other Rank 8 folks make decisions and try to rank up with similar or different means.

Not as high as you guys, but got 6 -> 7 yesterday.

All missions/expansion done, medal of altana (no Fiat) 600+ roe, no craft. Anyway, nothing crazy or out of control, generally did my content but not sweeping the floor on everything, only thing I did was +.3 ( from 12 to 12….) fishing skill, 2 RoE fishing (rusty and monster) and 1 VD ifrit (still need a few more) and both limbus tower. So nothing exceptional, but for the lower peeps, don’t forget to do those RoE fishing as I believe it’s what crossed it for me.
