If you open the equip menu then check the status, for certain rank up conditions, you can see a change without zoning.
...Possibly related, though I'm not actually certain: Opening the equip menu triggers a 0x063 incoming (merit points update) even though you're not in the "status" menu, which is where Merit Points are actually visible.

(this may or may not be because it also stores Monstrosity info in that packet and HNM status gives you more points to equip Instincts, that's my best guess)

Does Mastery Rank come in that one, and not 0x061 (same place as your own title)? Just a Pavlovian reaction to "hey I recognize [thing]", not a relevant post, but asking the real wizards.

Mastery rank is part of 0x01B, which shows up on zone, and at least some of the time when you check your status/title.
Code
-- Job Info
fields.incoming[0x01B] = L{
...
    {ctype='unsigned char',     label='Mastery Rank'},                          -- 66
...
}

Yes, precisely. In the cast of my Rank 8, I didn't rank up until I completed the final nation related quest, RoE + Portal Charm.

For RanoutofSpace's Rank 9, he completed his last quest in Windurst (Scooped) 100% that nation's quests.
The Hoxne earring reaches from -30 to +30 all stats in increments of 5, makes 12 blocks.
Now it would be interesting to know which parts the individual "blocks" of content consist of.

I guess it's likely that finishing all quests and missions of the full scale expansions (Zilart, Promathia, ToAU, WotG and SoA)
each count for 1 block? Maybe includes the RoEs attatched to them, for instance limit breaks with the jobs of that expansions, Artifact armor and lvling them to 99.

I'd say full voidwatch + abyssea clear and all quests could count for one, maybe mini expansions are also included in this block?

Voracious resurgence and rhapsodies might count for a block each.

That would make 8 blocks so far, which ones would the other 4 be?

Guys. It's just points. On an invisible bar.

You do a thing. You get a point. You do a different thing you get 2 points. You get a thousand points you get a rank.

I don't know why you feel the need to over complicate it.
(I do actually know why)

I agree that it's probably just a simple point system, where different things are worth different points. I think we have some evidence that there are two classes of things that give points, Completion (of some larger set of things) and Incremental (points go up with each achievement).

Completion:
* All quests in a category (e.g. all Windurst quests)
* All campaign medals
* Missions(?)
* Homepoints / Survival Guides / Waypoints / Proto-Waypoints / etc. unlocks?

Incremental:
* Crafting skills (inc. digging)
* Melee skills
* Monstrosity levels?
* Species unlocks
* Titles
* (playtime?)
* (Levels?)

For instance, I put digging into the Incremental category because multiple people have reported rank ups from improving their digging skill, but I think some of them weren't capped yet.

The concept of "Completion" gets a bit hairy with sets that are not completable (e.g. The Rivalry / The Competition in Port Sandy) or have dead quest entries in the .dats (like Jeuno), but perhaps they programmed around it or perhaps it isn't possible to get a completion reward from San d'Oria quests.

Nevertheless this whole mastery rank must have caused this resurgence of fish botting because moat carps are the hot ***on the AH right now.

On Odin it's selling at a rate of ~60 stacks/day right now and I think I've seen 70+ stacks/day sold during free campaign on bahamut.

On asura at a price of 100.000/stack that's around 83.300.000 Gil for the completion of the lu shang quest while the rod itself costs just 2-3 million...

I have this exact breakdown in my notes. I put the same content in the Incremental category. I think content in this category can cause a Rank Up ...but the content itself is largely inconsequential or optional. Your character misses nothing if they never do this content, so SE allowed for incremental progress towards Ranking Up. (My Two cents / opinion).

Yes, please! Could you tell us if you rank up from 1 to 2 (What's your current mastery rank?) just by unlocking monstrosity or getting the first monster from 1 to 30 (takes about 35 minutes, kill 10 mobs in W.Ronf, then Kill 15 mobs in Jugner Forst).
