When leveling all your crafts to 98 to acquire every KI/item from GP worth a title, is there a way to keep the Expert tag on all your crafts after they de-level?
I'd like to have all Expert on the list if it's possible... or does changing guild's revert it back to Artisan when it de-levels back to 70?
It's purely an aesthetic endeavor... but it'd be nice... (And I could of swore I saw a screenshot of such)

hah...
The whole thing with the brown-mage addon, then you said this would turn into a ***-show. This is too much!
Incredible. I'm shocked. I love puns, and this went right over my head.

Stupid question: Is everyone attempting Rank 9 doing this? (Leveling each craft from 70 to 110 for the GP items and then deleveling to 70?) I've never tried to delevel, so I don't know if you can return to 110 after having deleveled yourself to 70. I imagine you have to do the skillups all over again?

Is everyone doing it? I doubt it.. but its a form of completionism.
As someone who doesnt have a shield, nor plans to commit to any one shield anytime soon, its totally chill to de-level crafts I dont care about to earn items. It just becomes a daily 'GP of the day' task...
And yes you need to re-skill them up if you plan to take them to 110 again. Ideally your FINAL craft is the one you intend to keep at 110. Also you can get Expert @98 w/ the 20k GP key item, so all purchase-ables should be available at that point. No need to get to 110
By Ranoutofspace 2026-02-26 21:10:19
You get Expert rank from completing the 98 skill test and once you lose that, you lose the rank with it, so it ends up looking like this:
Could have them all as Artisan at the end if you want but then you risk skilling up and pulling that point away from whatever you 110 craft is. Also, blue is true.
I just went down 88 for the GP item and didn't get the key item from 98 though. Oops.

Fair. I could have SWORE I saw a screencap of all blue Experts, but maybe I'm misremembering or it was a gag

Can anyone explain how to maintain the Expert words? I think i'd prefer that over blue text tbh

You just level up something new without revoking artisan or whatever.

Note, aside from fishing, there aren't any 110 crafts in that screenshot. Taking it up to 110 might force you revoke expert status? Haven't tried myself.

It's both digging campaigns. Digging retries will be 3 or 5 seconds, I don't remember
By LightningHelix 2026-02-27 11:05:08
Yeah, the unmentioned part of Felgarr's complaint was "because they run the two campaigns simultaneously, the dig time is also a constantly 5 seconds while skillup campaign is on"
(which is valid! they do!)

...So the answer is to get all crafts to 99, get all GP items, then de-level to 70 and repeat?

@Felgarr fyi you don't *have* to do this for rank 9 btw, but i'm sure all those titles help. I'm in the process of building GP myself in case they will help me get to 10 since i don't see those last two MT titles happening anytime soon :D

Are you saying to just do something else, that is less of a pain? At this point, everything is a slog....

(that said I'd still wait until a skillup campaign, and don't forget Shaper's Shawl exists, this thread is basically the only place to find people who actually get enough mileage out of it to bother)

I guess I'm just saying that none of these ultra grindy tasks like all monstrosity 99 and all crafts de-leveled for GP, 1000 MMM mazes, brown mage, 100k limbus points, all campaign ops etc are in no way mandatory for rank 9. (I had done like 2 limbus climbs at rank 9, i'm still at like 45k now, zzz) So you will probably have more fun doing a little bit of all this between other content that will do more for your rank than these things. Unless you're specifically doing it for science of course :)

Yup, good point. I got lucky and got a shaper's shawl like 10 years ago.

Ah ok, this is a fair point. I do have less than 150 titles left and I'm at 933 RoEs ...I guess I could hit 1000 and do some of the easier "content completion" areas first, before I do GP items.

Getting to like 1000+ titles and doing every roe (sans crafting shield) should be easy and mandatory compared to the weird grindy stuff that we only started doing because we ran out of other things to do
Get gp for each craft in advance as well before you bother leveling/deleveling anything and attempting that mess. It's just a daily task and it's gonna take a WHILE to get the gp for every key item, item, title, etc for each craft.

I should actually ask here, does anyone have strong opinions about the best GP level bracket for each craft?
Like being 98+ in Cooking means you introduce a bunch of stupid ingredients into the pool (I remember Eiryl being really mad about something that requires like Movalpolos regional vendor or something?)
...whereas being 98+ in Goldsmithing felt to me like it mostly added stuff that's relatively easy to source and a few things you can throw gil at.
It's kind of a niche question but this thread'll know if anyone does.

(this is only half the answer, which rank is the most optimal)
That's a reallllllllly good question. Very hard to answer though lol.
Typically, it's optimal to be as high as possible for more points; But every craft has "that one item" we all hate and skip basically.
Alchemy Veteran is all simple and easy stuff
Brisingamen shows up in goldsmithing Veteran , it's really stupid. Essentially impossible to make.
2-3 items show up in cooking as mentioned
Rice Dumpling shows up in cooking veteran requires coral fungus which only (really) comes from moval which makes it nearly impossible to make
Leather Veteran has the Barone that requires an NM drop, that's ***
Cloth Veteran requires raxa which can be a huge pain in the ***
EVERY smithing Vet item requires adaman, very obnoxious, staying on adept would be optimal if you don't plan ahead and stock up (when I used to actually craft, I would mine the mog garden and keep the adaman every single day for years just to keep up)
Wood Veteran is relatively painless

This is likely not useful for you now because I assume you've already done it, but...

I mean, you can just throw gil at the AH, there's always supply. (server may very)
This was many years ago, like the very beginning of adoulin
I suppose the technically correct answer is never veteran, as there will always be at least one very annoying item and if you always have to skip days, then always be veteran is not "optimal".
I'll run the numbers for cooking, to show the concept;
If you stay Novice they're all reasonable, and you average 9,060
If you stay Apprentice they're all reasonable, and you average 8,790
If you stay Journeyman 1 of the 8 items may be impossible but the average is 10,520
If you stay Craftsman they're all reasonable, and you average 10,770
If you stay Artisan 2 items may be impossible, you average 9,330
If you stay Adept they're all reasonable and you average 14,550
If you go Veteran 1 item is impossible and 1 item may be impossible you average 12,930
Unfortunately, that's not the full answer either; (sigh) The higher your rank, the more possibilities. Each rank you go up, adds 8 recipes to the pool.
A vet not only has 2 impossible days from vet, but also the impossible days from Artisan and Journeyman, too. At the same time has the highest possible value items because it's the highest level.
The highest average with the least impossible days, making it the most optimal might be Craftsman. (like I said, complicated!)
*Your willingness to go fishing or pay a fisherman to gather fish will dramatically alter the equation!
**If you pre-plan by manually taking zones over in conquest, impossible items become possible

Eh, I never had any go issues just staying at 70 to get points and raising or lowering rank with guild tests if the item was bad at that day
Obviously more of a pain if the test item for raising cap past 70 sucks for said craft
Asura.Eiryl
By Asura.Eiryl 2026-02-28 16:44:09
It is a bit of a moot point. You just get what you get and if it sucks you skip it. You lose a day. Not earth shattering.
But interesting to think about.

Barones are also available from vendor with infinite stock (assuming gil is no object).
Adaman are ridiculously easy to stock, I've never even thought about them.
Very few recipes in vet are impossible or even challenging and they offer a huge bonus to GP. It also increases the number of days (average) where you're earning good GP and not trash 3.6k.
Novice spend 25% of their days on amateur garbage, veterans spend 10% on that trash. And so on. The ratio of ***days to valuable days goes up with every rank you increase.

For anyone that wants to share where they are with Mastery Rank and there stats on quest/missions/roe and so forth. Rank can be found in menu under Status>Profile.
Any data helps, but more data for people at rank 6 can help us find possible base requirements. Stats from other ranks also can find baselines for those as well. Obviously stats from people if they notice when they rank up will be extra useful.
Square Enix said: Mastery Rank is a numerical value representative your completion of missions, quest, and various other types on in-game content. The higher the rank, the more you have completed. Source
The "other types of in-game content" might be hardest to figure out. Apparently at the moment Rank 6 is the cap?
Master Rank 4 with:
Rank 10 only in one city
Zilart/CoP main missions + epilogues completed
ToA/WotG/SoA/RoV main missions completed
No Addons done
451 ROE completed
Max Fame in Bastok, Windy, Sandy, Norg, Jeuno and corresponding linked areas
Relic/Empyrean/Aeonic completed, no mythics
