Also surprised it took so many days for a thread to be created.
There's been a couple of posters on the official forums, a post on the new FFXI subreddit, and I think some buried comment on the old one. Not much mention elsewhere.
I have many questions. Has this happened before? Did the Galka bots do this? If someone is banned, is that slot opened? What are the consequences on the economy with no one allowed to come in?
It has no real affect on anything. It's not like actual new players were flooding in. The only mild affect it may have is supply drops to the ghosttown servers. As those server jumpers will be afraid they can't get back to asura.
It is funny though, I do "look forward to it" to their overreaction and hollow apology.
They need to retire old characters and release the names. Purge em!
I'd hope if they did it for Asura they'd also do it for other servers. I want the name "Jessie" again, dang it! Caitsith merged into Ragnarok so I lost my name. And I've never even seen the character with this name >_<

This seems spooky to me.
Odin and Bahamut were closed before the great merge disaster, for like a year or so, caused an exodus then merge.
Could someone explain to me the impact this has on the economy? Not trying to be a smart-***, I genuinely don't know.
The overall number of people shouldn't affect anything, should it? If there are more people supplying, then theoretically there should also be more people demanding. If supply and demand are both going up in a 1:1 ratio, it shouldn't affect anything, should it?
In theory it's harder to make new bots and new bots provide all the raw materials for crafting stuff. and making rema.
No one can jump over 10,000 beits or 30,000 alex or 5 million M.Silvers from ghosttown server X.
But that's a 6 months from now problem. aka, not a problem.
I thought it would have a big impact on the economy but honestly people know how to get around the lock to get back to Asura, so it will probably have little.

Depend how meaningful was the trade of item/money to the servers economy.
Considering the game wasnt supposed to support cross server commerce, its a valid assumption to consider that importation/exportation of items and flux of cash wasnt a big thing compared to servers economy. Thus, hardly impacting deflation /inflation.
But it could make RMTs work harder, if they work with the strategy of farming cash on emptier server to sell on assura. But also im not sure how many RMTs work with servers transfer commerce.

Do tell.
Wake up at 4am.
Delete one of your mules to free a spot.
Transfer over your carpetbagger.
Hope someone didn't take the spot while you were farting about.

I know people that go to Asura to sell stuff since it obviously sells faster than on my server. This will be a road block.
There was some guy bragging on the asura Facebook group last spring about exploiting and hqing Rostams and such on dead servers and transferring to asura.

Sucks to be them.
I wonder how long before we see his thread crying about the banhammer.
I think it will help prices on Audra. Currently people from
Other servers come here and buy stuff then leave. You’ll see XDyisisnnnn buy 6 moonbow necklaces and pay stupid prices as an example.
