They updated 119/51.dat today, I updated the zips on the first post. Using old ones won't show the new stuff in the menu.

Whatever you do first, I recommend you make a backup of your ROM folder as a precaution.

Secondly, its up to you how you want to do the dat swaps. There is a addon (XI Pivot) that helps you do this without modifying the files itself. You may want to search youtube on how to do this, several ppl have made videos on 'how to make your game look good' and it basically covers dat swapping.

Then there is the ol' copy/paste/override dat file approach.

I personally just replace and override and /done

install the files from the orig folder to reset all changes, then install the mod (condensed just means the text on the nameplate, not icons)

ZipA has no menu icon (magic/mounts/abilities) changes, ZipB does.

The files from zipB in /280 and /324 have bigger menu icons, and so without the menu changes in /119/51.dat that make the menu windower bigger from B they squish together.

Install the orig files to reset.

I really made these far too complicated and with too much optional stuff, I'll prob delete most of it next time and have is more simple.

See the first post - you need to use TexHammer

To change parts of the 51.dat in the "x modify with drag and drop elements" folder.
Spoiler Alert! Click to view.
Quote:
Click Texhammer made by Korith, to start program.

After installing the mod, make sure you're logged out of FFXI.
Drag 51.dat into copy into texhammer, lots of images show up.

To change the pointer arrow from modded to original, goto images/pointers and drag "anc anc" file into "anc anc" box

To change the font used for nameplate, font font (main font):
vanilla is the normal XI font, different battle numbers adds different numbers that show up when you hit something. Treb is the font used in previous verisons of XIview and LoL is league of legends type font)

To change the mission/npcdialogue pointer drag "anc btwait" into "anc btwait" box.

(Original is the original versions of these images)

To change the color of macro keys from blue to grey:

Drag either of the 2 files in macro keys folder to the "menu gauge" box

To change the box type for all gear and the equip screen drag and drop the modded or orig file to the "itemslot" box.

To change Job Point stars, job point stars (condensed if using that 51.dat) drag and drop into the "menu ustashd" box near the bottom.

Press save at the top right and make sure to save it as 51.dat and not 51_HD.dat.

using this info I was able to decipher that I incorrectly had my dgvoodoo (and ffxiconfig) setup and was able to fix my old cobbled-together pivot folder. Just used the new condensed1 and tex-hammer'd in treb font and used another file I had for transparent black UI menu mod, and now everything is nice and orderly again. Previously hadn't updated since before limbus grace buffs got added

https://github.com/Caradog/XI-View/blob/master/05%20-%20Add%20Ons/00%20-%20FFXI%20Backgrounds/window-0000-2-XIV_Dark.DAT

I re-name this file to 21.dat and move it to ROM/0/ , replacing the other 21.dat - which sets menu style 8 to be black/transparent.

Which dats do I need to change to only change the text on names/icons like bazaar etc? I like the font HD but I don't want to change the macro bar or the abilities list, inventory HUD etc.

ZipB changes magic / abilities / mounts / menu size & all in A

ZipA does not change those things (if you install this, and don't want it install orig folder to put all files back to normal)

ZipA changes nameplate font to be HD (players names), linkshell etc icons, radar, gil icon, macros, buff icons.

in the zip:
1 mod original width
2 mod condensed
3 mod condensed 2
are just the width of the nameplate (char names), just use 1 if you want the font to be the same as normal.

119/50.dat is login screen image
119/51.dat is the UI
119/57.dat is buff icons

119/51.dat is the file with the UI changes, if you unpack the zip and open texhammer.exe in Xmodify folder, load the 51.dat file (drag it into it) you can go into the xmodify/images folder and drag parts over into it. menu gauge is the macro bar, itemslot is the equip boxes.

Thanks for the info RadialArcana.

With the game closed entirely, I've tried to edit the original dat 51 and only change the font font, font moji (not sure if I need this but changed it anyway), and job point stars. I then dragged it over the FFXI files and replaced 51 in ROM>199>51.dat.

I then launched pol, logged in, and there seems to be no changes. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance

Make sure you dragged over FINAL FANTASYXI/ROM/119/51.dat from the install folder, and as you say closed to restart since this file is loaded before during boot.

when you change things, make sure you hit the save button on the left next to generate thumbnails.

The font moji one is from the original xiview, unless you have low quality fonts on it won't change.

make sure you changed 119/51.dat not 199/. If you accidentally overwrote the wrong file in 199, let me know and I'll upload that file so you can fix it.

(199/51.dat is an armor dat for hume female, you'll crash if you come across that if you don't fix it and put it there)

Double checked FFXI Config and I have fonts (and everything else) set to quality.

Seems like everything else I'm doing as you say.

I made a copy of 51.dat from the game files (that I previously overwrote) and when dragging it into Tex Hammer it still has the 512x512 fonts so I think I saved it correctly?

Kind of strange that the changes are not reflected in-game, as when I use your version of 51.dat with MORE things changed, it works... I am confused...

119/51.dat

51.dat is the entire UI file

57.dat is buffs, 50.dat is the login menu image / screen

The other ones are either the actual menu icons or menu backdrop files.

Yep, it's definitely the right folder/dat.

Does 57 also interact with fonts for names, do I need to do anything with that? I notice that you have it in your 119 folder changes, though if I drag it into Tex Hammer it doesn't show anything.

No 57.dat is buffs (when you use a skill it shows the icons on the buff list from this file)

51.dat is just the pure UI files, any image changes you make there will show up if it's in the correct place and saved (and you need to close and restart).

The nameplate font will look the same btw, it's just hi-res. Also it doesn't work with xipivot. You can see if it's loaded, the gil icon is high res coin.

Hello, I am using your A zip condensed 3 and everything is displaying correctly except for the chat log background / abilities/spells. The abilities/magic icons are all the original icons with icon 2 selected in the config menu inside the game. The buff icons at the top are correct however and are their previous HD versions. It's just the menu abilities etc. that won't change. I am using XIpivot and my question is do these files need to be changed in that ROM directory as well as the FF game directory? I also tried reverting back to original and then installing B zip condensed 3 and it's just a bigger vanilla icon 2 menu. FFXI config settings are all maxed minus fonts are set to low quality. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Window backdrop is changed in config, windows, shared, 1 to 8

the dat files for these windo changes are in rom/0/18,19.20,21.dat

config, misc, icon 1 or 2 is just for buff icons top of the screen

ZipA does not alter the menu icons, ZipB does alter spell/JA/mount icons and menu size.

The 51.dat from B changes the menu size (for ja/spells/mounts) but you need the bigger spell and JA icon image files too if you install B and those are in folder 280/15.dat and 324/95.dat

(some of these work with xipivot some don't, I just put them in the original install locations)

I am having troubles with getting the macro images, linkshell images, etc. to be more HD. I have the login menu having titan and the other characters just fine. It's the rest of the game that still looks vanilla.
I have downloaded the B folder and added the 0 and 119 folders to the ROM folder in the game files. FFXI > Rom > 0 and 119. Is there something that I am missing outside of that?
I originally followed NextGame's tutorial on it - and has since tried to put back in the files for the 51.dat and 50.dat files as well to get it back to the HD look - still nothing.

Thanks, just reverted back to original then installed B in both locations. Menu icons are still just vanilla icons (icon 2) with a bigger menu.

Make sure you restart the game, also they don't work from xipivot folders.

Also if you installed from zip B you also need folder 280/15.dat and 324/95.dat (magic/JA/mount menu icons)

From B:
in the mod folder is:

rom/0/4 in here
rom/119/3 files in here
rom/280/1 in here
rom/324/1 in here

Have to install all of those into the gme folders, the bottom 2 are the menu icons.

Thank you!
