 The current issue has nothing to do with corporate greed though. Corporate greed ruining gaming was all the DLC and microtransactions and gacha gimmicks. They were trying to milk every penny out of gamers that they could.
This is a case of no one wanting to buy their poorly developed garbage where priority is on political messaging.

Umm drakengard actually has pretty bad reputation in terms of gameplay, it is the story and dialogue getting praise. Same for Nier I think. I would say he is a good writer but not necessarily good game mechanics designer. So it is A that is more valuable than B in this case. Lets be real, all his drakengard games are bad to mediocre.
Nier Replicant felt like a generic indi game. Nier Automata was the outlier in Yoko Taro trajetory, but probably because it had more investment and a larger team to polish the raw game of Replicant with Squareenix quality in combat system and graphics, and obviously the gothic style. Nier Reincarnation, while it has a very interesting storyline, itz a devolution in terms of gameplay. So, to sum up, Nier Automata is the outlier in Yoko Taro's career, and I would credit it more to probably higher budget it had than some specific quality he has, that barely showed in his other games. BTW, I played Drakengard 1, and I really enjoyed it. I completed it very close to 100%.
Drakengard 2 was terrible, and I dropped it completing only one of the three story paths. It was too much for me to replay it more 2 times. I didnt play Drakengard 3, but watched the full longplay, and its just a generic hack and slash, with some Kill Bill vibes. It annoyed me by no end how Yoko Taro expects we to play the very same game at least 3 times just to see the full conclusion of the game. I dropped NieR Replicant near the second half of the game, because how annoyed I was when it made many quests unavailable, and I never felt like restarting again, given how boring it was. NieR Automata no discussion, I 100% with mucho gusto. I watched the first 2 seasons of Nier Reincarnation and I fully enjoyed it. The last season wasnt complete by the time I picked it up, but I heard there is no english version of it. I will see if I can finish watching it this year though. Enjoyed it storywise. The gameplay seemed turn based system, whats a major let down to me at this point in my life. I just picked up Nier Automata and Nier Replicant on Steam sale last night. I watched most of the anime on Crunchyroll that was produced by SE and was blown away by it. I was surprised how close that anime story followed what I've seen in FF14. I didn't want to finish the anime and possibly ruin the ending to the game.
Hopefully it's good. I got FF16 to get through first tho. I'm playing Bellwright and I really quite like it :o
