I got one to around lvl20 or so and it was fun for sure. I like the Contagion mechanic and tweaking the gems for your minions is pretty cool. I like that you can pull in spells from Sorc too, I ended up using Fire Wall a fair bit for a little while until I started using whatever those bone arrows are. Boss fights feel harder than with Monk and the AoE on death effects hurt more, but I like the idea. It also seems like the amount of spirit each summon takes decreases as you level the skill, since I have so many skill gems going up from the levels, I've been able to increase the # of summons to be more and more fairly quickly. The dependence on spirit is definitely harder to manage than with Monk though.
I'm almost done with "Act 6" (Act 3 on Cruel) with my Monk, so I'm not putting too much into witch atm, I'd like to see how maps work in endgame. I got lucky with a rare item that converts all lightning to cold damage and shock to freeze, so I've just been running around freezing everything getting through the acts. I'll probably revisit it more later

FFXIV has an abnormally high percentage of women that play it, which is why it's so weird and deranged. When women make up a minority of players, the community tends to be normal (which is every other mmorpg that exists) and the women just play the game.
When the % gets too high, not only does it attract weird women that ship mamools with other mamools and write romance novels about it on twitter, but they also have literal unironic dance clubs where they perform paid dance emotes at each other with a DJ playing songs for the "club" to listen on on twitch and pay a sub just to take pics of their characters and/or mog house like anyone cares.
Also because of the high % of women, it attracts more mouth breathing guys who are only there cause womenz
It's basically Second Life for weebs, same kind of community.

On FFXI the number of women is prob under 10%, the devs said as much not long ago.
On FFXIV it's probably around 30-35%, and it's well known it has a lot of women playing it.
Men are still the majority obviously, as with all video games, but there is a tipping point where the number impacts the community.
That's why it has a weird vibe about it, unlike any other mmorpg. Again, it's very similar to second life.

As to generational... Did you have a generation in mind? I'm 80, I play it. As usual some who are below the ToSA age limit do too.

Thanks for posting links that say women are firmly in the minority and your entire post about the community (that you are not a part of) was made up.
So... I have been increasingly frustrated with new games over years. I feel like so much effort it placed on graphics, lighting, art style, ect and maybe 10% of that effort is placed into gameplay, controls, and story.
My latest purchase was Visions of Mana, which I was pretty excited for. Secret of Mana is in my top 5 all time, I've played Seiken Densetsu 3 translated and while I didn't think it was as good as Secret of Mana, it was still extremely enjoyable. I skipped Trials of Mana since I had already played Seiken Densetsu 3. Vision is just bad. The english voice acting was awful, the characters were bland/generic or just stupid, and I was 3hrs into the game and all I was doing to running 30seconds between CS. Felt like a slightly interactive shitty anime.
Hogwarts Legacy, Visions of Mana, Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield... I felt like all of these super hyped games were absolute duds. Final Fantasy 16 is coming to PC in a few weeks and I'm not sure if I even want to try it anymore. I've heard people say not great things about it.
I know I'm just venting a bit here, but it really sucks being excited for a new game and then the crushing disappointment when it's not fun.
