Is there a way to check what training I have? When I talk to the engineer and select Recieve Training they tell me I'll need considerably more experience to benefit, but I am already level 80. It's been years since I played but I must have done it back then.

Start a synergy and look at the levels in the menu

I realized shortly after posting when I tried to make a Fotia Gorget that it was a dumb question lol. Now, I just need to remember how to actually do Synergy

It's not too bad. Mostly focus on keeping impurities below 30 or 35%, pressure below 70 or so, and spam fewell. Make a plan, considering that the required elements may be opposing or reduce each other. I prefer to do the one that will be reduced last (if possible)

I haven't found thwacking, healing, or recovering fewell to be at all useful or productive.

Won't explode unless you feed above 30% impurities. I don't typically worry about pressure; leaks are predictable and allow you to get an exact match on the leaking element as long as the element strong to it isn't used.

For fotia gorget specifically, light/dark conflict so if either leaks you'll have a tough time balancing them. So, I would do:

Purge impurities before feeding anytime they're at least 26%(most feeds give 5%). Feed fire to 40ish, so any leak will be fire. Feed light/dark to 20, if you don't get them both within the 18-22 range give up and restart. Feed fire up to 60ish (it'll be leaking by this point). Feed earth to 50ish. If you go too far over, use wind to correct(each wind feed will take 2 off earth). View readings on fire leak until it hits 50, then end. If it's already leaked below 50, just throw a fire feed and wait until it balances.

Results don't seem to change based on how much charge of elements that aren't required has been accumulated, so the water from the fire leak and the wind from correcting earth don't hurt anything.

Just wanted to add that you can get within +/- 3 of the target element and still succeed in crafting an item. It does not need to say "image has taken form!" either. I wish I understood more about this subtle discrepancy. I just really enjoy synergy...
