Do tell me all the new content that has come out in the last 3 years other than the new limbus that I haven't done? I still watch Hegmoh's streams as I use to play with the guy on Shiva. I had done every content. Finished my prime scythe, did all of oddy, there was nothing I didn't do. I got my hopes up for new limbus but it just wasn't what I was hoping for. Yet I still tried to play retail again, made new characters and played more retail but I just couldn't find the enjoyment I use to have in the game and yes I was having more fun on HorizonXI.

IDK what is even the point right now. It's like you two are trying to compare both games and say horizon (which isn't even this thread discussion LOL) is better and has more people. Then in the same breath you say that it has 0 impact on the real FFXI. You literally have this guy Mewtwo advertising for the server on here.
The server is free, of course you will see a bunch of boppers on there shouting for useless garbage while they pretend they are back in their golden days "HI PARTY ^0^". I find it funny they claim EXP is riveting content and SKILL UPS, but they refuse to team up for EXP on retail or do anything in groups like devs intended. Just going with the popularity of a free trash server that copied everything it has from the real game. Its a travesty against the beautiful art that is FFXI, the real game.
This is why I say you could do a whole case study, and just in the next thread someone complaining people don't team up or they just multi box. There are def a lot of factors influencing retail FFXI, and in a bad way. I mostly blame SE, but none of this helps which is why people have strong opinions on it of course.
I think it will be the worst thing to experience in the later years of this games life. The fact you have people literally saying a dinky private server is the real FFXI, and advertising for it across various platforms. What an absolute shame.

I know personally for me, that I couldn't recapture the same feeling of leveling up or growing etc as I did my first grind to 75 back in the day. Fumbling through storylines and missions, having to stop leveling to get new gear/spells etc and going to farm. Meeting new people, making new friends while you EXP'd. Talking during downtime while waiting for someone to get to camp, or during a resting break for MP, you'd find out that you were on the same mission for Zilart, or CoP and decide to team up for it.
The first time you set foot in Sky, Sea, Dyna etc and being taken aback by things. Now we're (myself included on this) so jaded by things that starting over on a private server would be like taking up a new mule for Mars Orbs, or making a new character to be your pocket healer/buffer for Limbus.

Well, that wasn't the point we were discussing, but if you want to bring up and unrelated point, then sure. This guy chose one game over the other. There are 101,230 active characters on FFXI. Do you think more people have selected FFXI, or HorizonXI? Guess we have figured out which is the better game, especially considering FFXI costs money to buy and a monthly fee, lots of barriers to entry but yet THOUSANDS more players play it than Horizon.

but I did quit retail without any incentive to go to a PS, It was all down to the route SE devs decided to go with the game. and I did go back and tried to play retail again multiple times. I even made new characters to try to get that enjoyment I missed. So even your 2 statements you concocted up aren't even accurate to the situation. Sorry

To clarify, are you saying FFXIAH isn't just for "retail" anymore or BG/Wiki's? Because the former I'd argue is only for "retail", the core functionality of this site is after all lookup auction house transactions. The forums while I generally don't post a lot here anymore, can fit both though I have my personal opinions on private servers and I think both sides made their arguments clear.

ZenithXI is a progression server currently in development, built on the Land Sand Boat emulator. Starting with the original level 50 cap and no expansion access. Over time the level and crafting caps will increase to 75 and 100, respectively, alongside expansion releases. We plan to thoughtfully explore content beyond the 75 Era, reworking and scaling it back while emphasizing horizontal progression. Our vision is to reimagine the game while staying grounded in the foundation of modern retail XI, carefully tailoring customizations and avoiding excessive custom content. The goal is to recapture that sense of wonder and nostalgia while staying true to the spirit of the 75 Era. Era serves as our guide but it does not dictate every choice we make.
The server will be single box, with retail movement speed (50), Era XP, no mounts, retail merits (some adjusted), a maximum of two rebalanced trusts (second unlocked and summoned at level 50), home point warps disabled, Explorer Moogle enabled (After nation rank 3), Survival Guide warps disabled, FoV/GoV rewards once per game day with no Prowesses, no Login Points or Records of Eminence, Claim Shield active on all NMs, and force spawn kings from KSNMs. Many out of era traits and abilities will be included but scaled down. NMs such as Chonchon or Highlander Lizard will be available from launch and not removed. Food and equipment are undergoing a global evaluation and rebalancing while maintaining respect for the traditional hierarchy and progression.
Certain mechanics will be adjusted from their current retail boosts to better reflect 75 Era standards. System customizations are planned, including some inspired from WingsXI. Namely improved auto target or spell queueing. Which reduces the latency penalty between spells being rejected with "you must wait longer". Additionally, a slight compounding PH spawn rate that increases until the NM spawns, then resets. A single lottery NM should not take most of your day. We are striving to balance modest QoL changes with modern convenience.
Roadmaps will be shared at regular intervals. Giving players clear timelines to look forward to as we roll out planned developments.
As an active fork of LSB, we will be developing and submitting retail accurate content upstream. While modularizing over certain aspects to better meet Era standards. The project will be mixed-source with select modules that are neither retail or 75 Era compliant, kept proprietary. ZenithXI does not seek to be a closed-source server. The XI community should strive to advance the emulator together, sharing knowledge and submissions collaboratively.
We're looking for developers of all skill levels to help bring this project to life. There are also other roles available for those who may not have development skills but still want to contribute.
