if anyone at SE ever sees this, can we get some adjustments to battlefields like Mireu where there are so many players on screen that without heavy filtering of effects and chat log, the content is unplayable in any enjoyable way. half the time the target Mireu doesn't even appear on screen, and yes there are ways to fix this but involve running out of range and back to reload the model. even if you can see what you're fighting, the traffic from all the other players creates tremendous lag.

I haven't tried the Limbus shared fights like Ultima/Omega, are they any better?

Should work if you convert the code from Playstation 2 to Playstation 3 and increase the available bandwith from 56k to ISDN B-Channel bonding.

You think anyone at SE reads anything posted here? You are very foolish.

Pretty sure they barely read their own forums, not sure why they would read these ones.

(Asura) Nothing lags me out worse than Limbus literally any primetime hour of the evening. Takes about 5-6 clicks to fire off my WS. The mob is usually dead for a good five seconds before my model auto targets. It's the biggest fustercluck. O/U is worse, you literally die within seconds because you have no idea where the gyves are and you've takes 800 DMG x6. But it's not so bad when I'm solo or if it's early in the day. Temenos is noticably better than Apollyon, but that could just be less players and less popular/linear zone.

However, absolutely NOTHING is worse than OG Odyssey with that ridiculous 15 second latency where you literally had to run away from bosses at 76% because you have no idea what health they're at and you might trigger Blood Weapon/Noahionto on Gogmagog. So I'll gladly take this current lag over that.

If you go into the effects menu and turn everything on, except the top option it will fix the fps issues for Mieru (that they still have the monster use dread/blaze spikes is crazy given the amount of lag that causes).

The problem with XI is Square Enix are an awful money grabbing company with a simplistic short term mindset, and they refuse to spend any money above the bare minimum to actually improve the game (that they could easily run for another 20 years if they bothered to do things). So they refuse to pay a coder to work on the game to fix the underlying issues like 56k cap or direct x issues (yes it would require a coder to figure out how it all works for 6 months, so...do that? but no they won't).

btw this is the same company that spends tens to hundreds of millions of dollars on games that flop on day 1

They even recently said they were thinking of just shutting the game down b4 fujito took over, but cause some ff14 players came to play they decided to carry on with it. Imagine how brain rotted these people are to think that on a game that makes a large profit in the first place, but also to just say it to people paying a sub for it. Imagine how utterly moronic these people have to be to say that. This is a public company btw, absolute cretins.

This is the sad reality for most companies. SE isn't unique in that.

increase the available bandwith from 56k

It's not a bandwidth issue, it's a communication model issue. The server sends one UDP packet for each packet the client sends, and the client won't respond faster than once every 400ms. So, there's a hard limit of ~3.7kbps for the game socket, which controls nearly everything you see ingame. Packetflow increases the limit to as high as ~5.9kbps if your latency is low enough (likely somewhere in between for NA players).

Changing to a model where the server can publish actions continuously and throttling player/mob updates based on time could resolve everything overnight, if the servers could handle it. The bigger issue seems to be that they're CPU bound and their server software is single threaded. Neither of these are simple problems to address.

The problem with public companies is they get really annoyed if a product stops growing (this has also happened with ff14 many years ago, it's been in decline for a while in terms of players and now heavily boosts revenue via the cash shop and reducing update frequency and quality) and so when that happens, to offset that it's no longer growing and keeping investors happy they instead start cutting costs harder and harder to force it to "grow" the profits of the product by starvation instead.

I think XI is almost all profits at this point (80%+, so they refuse to spend money on it beyond the bare minimum.

They are in effect running it till the wheels fall off, and doing next to nothing to future proof it.

This is why Square Enix is a crappy company, they make nothing good anymore and run the good things it has left into the ground to max profits.

If XI was run by a small company, it would get far better support and updates. This is why Everquest probably gets far more support. It's kind of crazy really, that the bigger the company the less you get.

Probably worth remembering that Daybreak, who manages EQ and EQ2 now, were at one point Sony Online Entertainment. Sony spun off all the MMO projects under their umbrella as a separate company at some point.
