Hello fellow FFXI enjoyers,

Director Fujito showed up on the March Live Stream to answer our questions (2 hours of "No"), but was insistent we join the AMAN Live on May 16th 2026, for a special announcement. This will coincide with the 24th anniversary of FFXI, as well.

So, I decided to put together a quick survey/poll, because I wanted to gather some data on Fujito's upcoming announcement and what players expectations might be.

Here's a link to the poll: https://forms.gle/FQUjvYtntb8gKWuc6
(Sign-in required, but no emails or personal information collected. This is to reduce responses to one per google account).

It'll only take a moment. Thank you for your time.

I mean, they already announced a bunch of upcoming updates (limus, besieged, more additions to trust upgrades, blu/pup UI, new HTMBs, new NMs in the open world, am I forgetting anything?).

Don't really know what kind of announcement they could add onto that. They've got a lot coming already for their little team

I would've loved a second Bonanza weapon kupon :-(
I actually still have to convert the first one lmao
Having a second one would've helped me to make up my mind!
But sadly they already said there won't be a second kupon.

Hopefully there's gonna be something good for all of us though?

Didn't they say it last year? That the Bonanza Weapon Kupon was a one time thing and not something to return next year?
Pretty confident they did say that or am I misremembering it?

Which is a shame if you ask me but w/e.

The only thing I can see them announcing is the next stage of upgrades to +5, which he obviously is fixated with carrying on with till +9 8 years from now.

The thing I don't get is that with seekers of Adoulin almost all of the work was outsourced to a 3rd party developer (most of the people at SE were working on XIVARR). Why can't they do that again? 30-40k of us would buy the expansion, + years of sub fees and etc It would obviously pay for itself to do it.

No, not at all. We borrowed people from the FFXIV maps team and named a leader for the group, but we still didn't have enough people, so we turned to Matrix* for additional assistance. From there, we started working on the map for Seekers of Adoulin behind the scenes while development on the version updates proceeded as usual.* Matrix Corporation. They worked on the additional scenarios: "A Crystalline Prophecy," "A Moogle Kupo d'Etat," and "A Shantotto Ascension," as well as assisted with the development of Seekers of Adoulin.

So did you come up with the world setting and story after that?
Ito

Yes. I ended up writing most of the world setting and the plot for the scenario myself up until the content was announced. I spoke with Mr. Saito*, who was in charge of the events at the time, and we came up with things like the characters, the Naakuals, and the Twelve Orders. Afterward, we also managed to get some of the visuals together, so we were able to announce the content at the Vana★Fest 2012 event that commemorated the game's 10th anniversary. We were working at an incredible pace, so I think people were quite surprised by the announcement.

Quote:
Fujito

Matrix worked together with us on Seekers of Adoulin from its planning stages, and that's where the idea of the Mog Garden was born. I then took that idea and made it into what was added to the game. Even back then, it was standard for social games at the time to give players some kind of reward for logging into the game every day as a way to encourage them to play, so we thought about ways to introduce that kind of feature to FFXI.

As someone who also is a huge fan of trolling online, I want to share something I have learned over the years. You've gotta keep the bait more subtle than this, nobody is going to bite on this one.

This seems beyond insane as the first one led to the highest playerbase (read: revenue from subscriptions) that they had in over 10 years. I fail to see what they could give players that would be on the same level this year without just doing it again.

Hey it's not like I'm rooting for this!

Granted that I doubt you'd see the same numbers if they were to repeat the kupon thing, but still I'd be welcoming it with open arms!

When Matsui took over, he was allowed to make Seekers of Adoulin, and I would guess that is kind of part of the deal of getting to be put into that role of making so much money for a company.

It it possible (although not all that likely) that we may get another expansion, to line up with the the new producer. That would explain the promotion of XI within XIV, also an expansion is the kind of thing you would want at the start of a new decade of a producers role of a project to boost profits / subs for that duration.

I'm not saying it's likely but it's surely possible that this might be the thing they are going to announce on the 16th.

As I said above, SoA took on a lot of work from a 3rd party company. So number of staff is kind of irrelevant.

If this is what they are planning, Fujito has stated he wanted to do something around Tavnazia in a past reddit AMA.

If this is the thing they announce, then just as with SoA they would have been working on it for over a year or more before this point.

Any potential new XI expansion is going to be chock full of AI art slop, micro transactions and gacha games.

Careful what you wish for.

This is not going to happen, but god, I'd love for them to just release... like, a walking simulator of the stuff they released for XIV. The vana'diel components. I want to see FFXI in that art style.

same, I've tried a few times to get far enough in 14 to do the 11 raid, but I have no motivation to finish endwalker. I'd prefer to be in game seeing it rather than watching a video on youtube, but not worth my time.

I know they solicited feedback and stated that they would do more HTBFs in the future. Without going back and checking through mission lines, I am drawing blanks at some of the more prominent battlefield fights they could turn into HTBF. What are some you think that would qualify? (When you don't do those missions for years you forget them).

I guess there's the entire line of SOA and TVR fights that could turn HTBF. The double-Reisenjima fight with the Yagudo might be a good one. Then there's the 3 scenario addon final battles.

They're doing HTMBs for the three add on scenarios. A Crystal Prophecy, A Shantoto Ascension, Moogle Kupo somethin. Butchering the names I'm sure

From a HTBF you would expect "complete" pieces, not semi-empty ones that you can augment at an npc, which was the case with the 3 items (3 versions of each actually) of the 3 fights.

Which makes me wonder what they're gonna do about it?
Ideally they would just give us ilevel version of the 9 basic items and ilevel versions of the same augs, but we all know that's not gonna happen.

So I'm expecting they will make all of those items (3 for each fight) regular ilevel items with fixed stats, and then add some new accessories/stuff on eacch BC, and that's it.

Here's Marjami:

I have no idea what this is. Could be Sanctuary of Zitah with some Meriphitaud mountains in the background? I have no clue:

Published metadata for the page is: 2020-01-14T13:16:03+00:00

But the images are hosted in uploads/2020/04 (e.g. link)

Forest one is named "back to home"
city one is "east_adrin"
The waterfall one is captioned "falls village" and named "waterfalls"

Anyway, you guys were basically correct with your guesses, I guess, and it's content posted 6 years ago that was probably already a few years old. They probably finally got permission to add it to their portfolio then.
