Yes, it's entirely a problem of their own making. That's why I have very little animosity for those taking advantage of the system.

RMT only exist to make money from real players.

If only RMT are left, who is going to pay the RMT to stick around.

I think the enshitification approach eventually backfires if the pursuit of profit totally eclipses creating a quality product, but maybe that is my own naivete.

Current players are addicts, sure, but they're also not getting any younger.

Does XI get enough "new" players to still be around for another 20 years?

It shouldn't be around 20 more years regardless. Nor 5. Nor 5 years ago tbh.

There will always be a market. The price just goes low enough to be irresistible.

Unless SE directly earns money from gil sold they could care less if higher competition among RMT drives down the gil price.

The worst thing that could happen is the new guys push the old guys out of the market which could impact the value of gil in game for a while. Mid to long term demand will stay about the same and therefore the accounts needed to supply that demand should also stay about the same.

Business 101. You don't pursue a maybe at the expense of an absolutely.

Business acumen is not their strong-suit though.

There are billions upon billions of excess gil out there right now. Likely more supply at this moment than there will ever be demand for until the very end.

I think they can still use linkshell concierge to get linkshells.

I could definitely see setting up a free trial if I'm planning to take a break so i can check in on things for free, or even if you know people on another server to go say hi to old friends.

For new players while many of the restrictions are necessary to deal with RMT, I do think they really need to be able to form their own parties and if SE wants to actually have like an active group of people using the free trial they need at least RotZ so they have access to at least some 75 era endgame and more jobs.

That's fair, and could be misleading. Not all liquid gil but stock of alexandrite, plutons, etc. Anything you need tens of thousands of to upgrade.

Irresistible?
After a quick search the current price seems to be around $0.90/1 million gil.

Most relevant gear like Su5 weapons or necks will quickly cost 40-60m gil, not even counting heroism crystals.
For 60m gil on asura they want $55.

Unless there is potential for more money to be made.

The only real threat to RMT are the game companies themselves so SE is in complete control of the situation and I don't know of a single game company that accidentally scared away RMT with a unmindful decision.

I have a feeling Kraken Club is going to crash even harder.
Create free trial account.
BST60+ on all 3 characters per account
Up In Arms every month with login beastmen seals
Kraken Club
free trial becomes paid account.

It's a zilart job but the access to the job is not in zilart zones.

Don't need to turn the account paid either. Just take a paid account blm to get the drop and warp the bsts home.

If bst isnt accessible rdm and blm are good enough.

Trial accounts can't trade, bazaar or sell on Auction House. No one in their right mind is making trial accounts to inefficiently spam Up In Arms.

Spam Up in Arms
get kraken club
Pay $12.95 USD to make account live
Move Kraken Club
kill account

Dont underestimate the absolute slave mentality of RMT idiots.

SE can always alleviate that scenario by making free accounts unable to use Shami.

Oh, and if anyone says RMTs will spam this, it means they have to put in some effort. 99% of them would rather follow the consistent path of least resistance by botting Ambuscade.

not even remotely worth someones time to make free trial accounts, especially relying on login campaign seals for a kraken club. the drop rate is less than half a percent.

I mean, the bsts can also farm seals. They're not exclusively log in rewards.

They can run 24/7 with no investment and a free restart it's a trivial task.

If they'll synth and npc antidotes for 10g they'll run up in arms for 50k in oxblood nonstop. and a billion gil payout once per week (or so)

It's not worth it if youre paying 13, 26, 39, 100 bucks, but for free, that's very different.

Exactly. It would be way quicker and efficient to farm the seals than to rely on a login campaign via free trial accounts.

I think some are seriously overestimating how much RMTs are willing to do for gil. They have and always will look for the quickest, easiest, and laziest method to make gil. Farming Up In Arms is not that by a country mile.

And it's not like anything else will bring in much gil, seeing as trial accounts have a 100k cap that can't be traded.

Link to the free trial with restrictions list below.

You can't form a party, but you can be invited. To sell anything you make, you need to pay. Could make a party with 1 paid account and then bot all the others, though I don't know the sophistication level of their bots. Seems like a lot to ask to have them organizing parties and running the BCNM, though I suppose if a KC drops they make $1000 so that's not a bad payday, especially if you live in SE Asia.

Kraken Club
The "can't trade" definition is a bit wonky. Could mean trade window doesn't work for them at all which means they couldn't hand the orb to the circle to enter the battlefield, unlikely cause that would mean they couldn't do a lot of quests either but who knows.

Would be a hilarious honey pot though. Imagine thousands of RMT spamming Up in Arms for months till they conclude Kraken Club is excluded from orbs paid with seals from free trail accounts.

On the other hand I doubt free trail gets access to this or any other BCNM outside of maybe mission battlefields. They are instanced so they'd probably cause a heck of a large congestion problem for the server.

Mission battlefields are afaik also instanced content so if there is the slightest possibility to somehow spam those on a free trail account a determined bot user could take a entire servers instanced content in a strangle hold, right?
