Yeah so... apparently avast! blocks Windower. Any suggestions on how to shut it off? I'd rather not uninstall it, but it looks like the only choice. :s
Windower is that ***that lets you play FFXI in a windowed version right?
On-Access Protection Control > Web Shield I believe > there should be options. You need to play around with Avast to get the results you want, but I'm glad to see someone else uses it besides me lol
Yeah, it deleted hook.dll in the main Windower folder if anyone's curious D:. I uninstalled avast for now, but when I have more time I want to try to configure it so it stops being mean, lol.
avast! is really great until it *** with your FFXI!!! D:<
Ok, now that Avast is a topic of discussion. I used a password on Avast, but I forgot it. SHould I just un-install and re-install it, or is there a Help somewhere?
I dealt with this last night on both my computers. Laptop got hit with it first. I told wife to move it to chest and since was playing it wouldn't move. So my wife just said F it and shutdown the laptop. I immediately downloaded the update, restarted avast and while checking memory and sure enough hook.dll and some other files were trojans. I told avast to continue. (Can't remember exact option but it was the one halfway down and on the left) It didn't give me any more problems. Interestingly enough it also said some Spybot Search and Destroy files were trojans too. This morning I just had to reinstall windower on the laptop and that was it.
FWIW some anti-virus/anti-malware programs will brand anything that monitors keystrokes or 'hooks' into a program as a virus.
I dunno what API hook.dll is calling, but I bet you that you could write a program from scratch with it and tell it bring up a message box every time you hit F12 and it would say it's a virus.
