I think what's lost now is that a lot of ppl stopped aspiring to be the best in their job fields. Before, it was the "no money" excuse to not have gear like hauby and acc rings; now, most people just do w/e b/c they just can. Level sync made a lot of ppl not give a **** about gear yet we need it to actually form a party sometimes. Of course, this is only a speculation from someone from lolBahamut.
Edit: skill wise I guess in a broad aspect of it all: it'd just be a lot easier if there were hardcore and softcore servers. All the elitest in one and all the others in the other. I mean, wouldn't that actually solve the problem? lol

Who would decide who belongs on what server and wouldn't that be the server with the most drama since everyone is supposedly 'the best'.

I would happily volunteer to stay away from the "elitist" server...I couldn't stand the everyone-should-play-the-way-I-do-'cause-I'm-da-best attitudes, much less the drama. I'd be happier on a server with newbs than that, LOL...

To many get lazy with new insain ways to get fast xp. 55k per hour astral flow parties are the latest thing on my server. I laugh how many will sit in WG all day with there flag up until the perfect set up comes along. I invite any job any time. A good leader knows what combos work well on what mobbs and how to maximize xp and the fun factor. Heck one of my favorite parties ever was 4x theif and a pld and a rdm on goblins. 5x blue mage in qufim island with a bard = insain fun. So many are hitting 75 so fast now they never learn really how to play. And there are more camps then just Greater Colibri guys. Pay attention to your set ups and move to the appropriate area.

That's all well and good, if you enjoy the EXP Phase of FFXI. Personally, I don't anymore.
It used to be fun when people wanted to SC and MB, but now that has died down, I just want to be able to get the jobs I want to 75 and enjoy them at the end.

I think you are looking at LS applications the wrong way.
It is just a way of making sure that you are looking to do the same things as the LS is doing and will fit in with time zone and possible style of play.
Just you are an applicant to a shell you should be looking and asking just as many questions so that you can tell if the shell does the events you are interested in.
Or you can toss a bunch of people together fight over what events to do have a bunch of people mad because you all looking in different directions failing at just about everything because everyone is upset and not having fun doing what things they are interested in.

I think its like its a lil of what every 1 has said. Yes the goal is to have fun but within practical means. If you get a prty inv as a Whm
to main heal and you come to the prty /nin w 2 hammers and eat a pizza
well you cannt really get mad for getting the boot lol. Why, because
that shits not practical. :0 Now if you want to be a melee whm/nin
full time just because thast your thing, well you know thast why
they made FOV go grab a page and knock yourself out. If you don't
want to prty alone grab a few ls buddies. In this game people get
so caught up with the community so much that they loose sight of what options you really have in this game. Ex there so many ways to get to 75
now w/o xp prtys. So why cry about the rules of xp prtys or meripos,
instead of grabing a few buddied and doing what ever the hell you want.
People sound pissed off because they won't let you use a baseball bat
in a tennis match. ;O

How Not To Be HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE - Vol. 2
Know How To Play Your Job
There are a wide variety of jobs in FFXI. Hell, pretty much every MMORPG is full of job classes that offer any sort of experience you may desire.
You want to be an Elvaan Warrior? Cool.
You want to be a cat girl black mage? Sure.
You want to be a half-vampire, half-werewolf, half-duck wizard?
... I'm sure it's out there somewhere.
Probably.
Yes, that depresses me, too.
You are entirely free to choose any job, career, profession, and life that you want. You can carefully consider each class's strengths and roles and find the perfect job for you, one that matches your play style and personality.
Doesn't that sound nice?
That sounds nice.
And all we ask is that you figure out how to play that job.
It's not hard. A little bit of internet research, browse through a few forums, and boom! You're an expert.
Okay... Maybe not an expert. But you can probably not get your entire group horribly murdered by ugly monsters with pointy things.
Oh, the pointy things.
Just a little bit of work.
That's not so much to ask, is it?
And yet, it isn't the exception, but the norm that you run into people who are either:
a) too ignorant
b) too stupid
c) both a and b
pretty much every single time you join a group.
Yeah, sure. You had this group just the other day that ran beautifully. Everyone worked together and did their jobs. You made tons of exp and a fun time was had by all.
Huzzah.
That didn't actually happen. That was a dream you had after you cried yourself to sleep. In reality, your party took four hours to get started because one guy had no idea what kind of gear or items he needed and then disbanded ten minutes later after two consecutive party wipes because of that guy.
Seriously. That's what happened.
Or you were that guy.
In that case, good job, champ. You're a credit to whatever trailer park you call home.
It's really not that hard to learn how to play your job properly. I'm not suggesting you devote your entire life to studying the arts of the Bard, but at least get the freaking basics down.
You know, you COULD devote your entire life to it. That is an option.
That would totally work for me.
Then, I wouldn't have to spend the majority of parties wondering exactly what the barrel of a gun would taste like.
Sure, your life would fall apart, the tattered pieces of your humanity burning in the fires of your gaming obsession, your entire existence reduced to being a puppet for my game playing needs.
Take one for the team.
The team being me.
When you log in and choose that job, even if you're only trying it out for shits and giggles, you are agreeing to learn that ***. You are agreeing to work your *** off until you are an ***-kicking machine.
That's why it's called a job.
Yeah, yeah. You're only playing a game. You only want to have fun.
***. You want fun, go play outside or something.
Or in traffic.
Whatever
uhm... help...? nvm

Who would decide who belongs on what server and wouldn't that be the server with the most drama since everyone is supposedly 'the best'. Well of course it'd be a choice to what server you'd be on. It'd be a lot easier to just segregate everyone for once. I mean it's a game, this isn't real life where we need liberals to complain what THEY want. Take the "JP only" players as an example: they want that b/c it GIVES them what they want. SE made it harder for those players when they invited everyone from all over to go on their servers that were, at first, "JP only". These "JP only" players didn't pay their $13.99 (in yen) to conform to what SE envisioned.
I came up with a system last night to what I think would work better. What really makes the "elitest" pissed off about these "for fun" players is that xp gain is more of a socialist stand point. This gave me an idea that "elitest" players probably want a campaign style of gaining xp where what actions you do increases the amount of xp you gain. So the "elitest" will get the xp they want while the "just want to have fun" players won't get as much xp but they'll have their fun and it allows both sides to co-exist. lol i'm just rambling here so don't mind me. XD
By Kittykite 2009-12-23 20:22:48
actually jouliont that about sums it up, the "elite" players do try to be picky and say this is what we want you, while the "for fun" players just decide for themselves, for me xp comes all the time even though im part of the "for fun" its not any fun to be bossed around by some person you dont know in real life, i know im not gonna take that crap anyways xD

As an MMO developer myself, I would love it if there were a self-selecting 'elitist' server.
'cuz then we could just wait for it to fill up, and periodically ban the whole lot for being more trouble than their $15/month is worth. >:)

Aww that's so mean! And ya.. I fully realize 'passing the buck' is somewhat cruel thing to do to another player. But.. I guess it eases my conscience knowing I didn't just force an entire pt to possibly disband. Plus.. odds are, if they were the only ones seeking, they likely would have been invited anyways. But ya, I would mpk me too. XD

Where does this leave the players who want to run with a competent group of friends, but are neither elitist nor "gimp"? I can't stand gimps who think their 12.99/mo is more important than anyone else's in the party or can't be bothered to have even basic gear. Nor do I tolerate the elitists who call you gimp just because you haven't penetrated their rarified strata of HQ everything.
What are you going to do for us? Neither extreme makes a positive contribution to the middle range's experience as gameplay goes (social aspect may vary). Is there a third server just for us? How do you deal with this server developing internal elitism strata over time?
Start banning one group for not being worth their monthly fee and you'll quickly have cries to remove another group and then another til nobody's left.

Just had the worst party of my life in garlaige.
46PLD/WAR BLU/NIN BLU/NIN COR/NIN RDM/WHM WHM/BLM
I thought it would be fine at first. Although I had my first suspicion when one of the BLU asked one of their BLU friends to tag along. It may not be the case for everyone but for me whenever a person asks a friend to join in, it normally means they suck; but I invited him anyways . Thought the BLUs would have their spells and stuff. I mean I even believed them when he said that he was a good player and if I don't beleive him, I could kick him. Boy was I wrong.
Both BLUs wore pretty much BLM gear and mp rings. Not the slightest bit of STR or ACC on their gear. They were also only spamming bludgeon and jet streams for roughly 60-70 dmg. They said they didn't have sickle nor mandibular. My shots were doing 80-90 and my ice shots were doing 70-142... I kicked the friend like he said I could. Suddenly the other dude left shortly after. 30mins past and we made only 1k...
I replaced the BLUs with a RNG/NIN and a THF/NIN. The THF was decent but the RNG...
I can understand COR/WHM that don't shoot bullets but I couldn't understand this one: RNG/NIN DDing only with viking axe or something (20 per hit; 40-50 for WS). We asked him if he had range but he literally only had a power bow that was doing 8 (max) per shots. Quickly just disbanded due to how horrible it was; RDM, PLD, WHM telling me how crappy this was; I'm hungry; and I wasn't going to waste my bullets on this crappy xp.
I JUST WANT TO AVOID THESE SORT OF PPL GDI! Is that just too much to ask for?
And that elitest-strata is just inevitable with ppl such as these on the servers. lol

Fenrir.Akuma said: I've been playing FFXI for a long while now and I've noticed alot of people talking about what's the best for this and what's best for that... why not just let people play how they want to play? It's a game and everyone should be able to have fun and play how they want not how others want them to play. I honestly believe that too many people are stuck in the mind set of "this has to be done this way". I know I ran into this problem many times lvl'ing my war, I ended up tanking most of the time from 12-75, but if I wasn't tanking I was that weird war that always had to see what kind of damage I could do with different weapons and tried to cap everything. The point was to have fun and I think alot of people have forgotten that. Maybe I'm just getting to where I need to retire from this game, but I think people need to stop thinking about themselves and think about others and just enjoy making friends. Am I wrong?
If you want to think that way, keep in mind that it applies to everyone, meaning that if i want to play as an "elitest douchbag" who kicks you from my party for using like, daggers on Warrior, then don't complain and say i'm an *** and that i need to accomodate you.
People seem to think that saying "I will play the way i want" entitles them to use whatever they want and not take any ***for it. Well, while you may want to play that way, the other 5 people in a party, want to play the way that gets them more than 4k/hr exp, and if that means they need to kick you to play the way they want, then you should just suck it up and move on. And if you say things like "well they're stoping me from having fun and in this game everyone should have fun" you have to also realize that sitting around getting ***exp so the WHM can skill their staff, isn't fun for those other 5 people.
In otherwords the "I play how i want to" ***can apply to everyone and if you think that people need to accept you're playstyle of a scythe warrior or whatever, you have to realize that other people, want to play their way aswell, and if that means you get kicked or miss out on fun because they want to replace you with someone that does damage, then suck it up, equip a Gaxe, and quit yer whining.

Could have not said it better myself. A lot of people tend to forget that your "fun way" can often be a big waste of time for others in your group and is ultimately selfish way as well, no matter how you try to justify it.

Gotta learn when to walk away, slow exp and stupid players are demoralizing, better to wait for a real party and have fun exping even if it takes much longer.
I was seeking a merit party on DRG today and got a JP party with a galka smn as main heal, drk, mnk, sam, bst and me.
So yeah, just said bye and disbanded, lol

by far the best thing that came from this topic, this right here just owns the whole mmo world.
and I miss Diablo II too, cant wait for 3
I've been playing FFXI for a long while now and I've noticed alot of people talking about what's the best for this and what's best for that... why not just let people play how they want to play? Am I wrong?
