Mine particularly would be The Czar, but an excellent album altogether. I was lucky to see them perform the whole album live back in May.
Oblivion is the only Mastadon song on my ipod and I very much love it. Ive never heard another song by them before though D: I liked the first 2 minutes of the song above muchly but then it started getting old around the 4 minute mark lol
Ill give their other songs more of a listen
I posted Iron Tusk off Leviathan 18 posts back. A quite excellent Sludgy dense riff as I would call it. Oblivion is one badass song, but if you're particular to a sound like that, you'd like Sleeping Giant off of Blood Mountain or the song Crack The Skye as well..
The badass thing about Mastodon, is that all the songs sound extremely different from one another, but somehow still retain its own unique catalogue.
Yeah, I fell in love with Mastodon back when they released Blood Mountain, and they quickly went up to my top four. Leviathan is an amazing album, but I'm more partial to melodic vocals personally, so I vied for songs like Colony of Birchmen (which I posted back on page 6). Then, Crack the Skye came out, and after hearing Oblivion and The Czar, I had to have it.
Oblivion is good and has a lot of sentimental meaning behind it, but it is most definitely the most poppy song in the album, if you can even call it that. I would go so far as to say it's like Metallica's "Enter Sandman". Still a good song, and has the power to reel in new fans.
In my opinion though, my favorite is The Last Baron. There's nothing better than being hit in the face with the howl of: "I guess they would say we can set this world ablaze". Let's not forget the insane guitar work that I don't think I could ever emulate.
Since this album came out, the band has worked its way to number 1 on my faves list, just above Pantera. By the way, I am so jealous that you got to see them in concert.
