Death Of IE6

Internet Explorer 6 is officially no longer supported by Google (and thus most of the internet) as of March. FFXIAH.com will likely be following suit. Microsoft even sent flowers and cards to its funeral.

If you're still on IE6 for some insane reason, slap yourself and wonder aloud how you could be so silly. Then, upgrade to IE 7 or 8 now. Better yet, use Firefox or Chrome.

(Ninja edit: before everyone piles on saying "who would still use IE6?" 10% of the world still does, including folks on this site.)

I <3 Firefox. Chrome was weird when I used it before.

I attempted to try chrome, even though my Email is with Google( said well why not right?)

..but then with the add ons for FFXI, I went strickly with Firefox, after Zecky Suggested it, and Thanks By THe Way Zecky!

I still use I.E to browse with along with FIrefox... just checked, Yep, I.E 7 ( phew)

Been a long time user of Firefox, so alot of flaws in previous versions of IE went unnoticed for me. Anyone care to humor me as to what made IE6 so godawful?

I actually dont even know wich IE im using xD how do I know that?

IE6 was victim to several security flaws.

IE7 and 8 have since made huge improvements in these areas.

IE6, when released, had a huge majority of browser share. Microsoft felt this was a mandate to write their own security and CSS standards, and screw the rest of the world.

Unfortunately, it was crap. Microsoft's new standards didn't work and were hard to code for, and it was full of gaping security holes due to them deciding to so tightly couple the browser with the operating system.

Once Firefox and other browsers which actually did obey the standards began to kick their ***, Microsoft put out IE7 and IE8, which do away with most of IE6's problems. (Although not all. Whenever I'm coding for the web, it's inevitably IE that still doesn't play nicely the way the other browsers do.)

I'm not familiar with much HTML or web browser lingo, but as far as I can tell Firefox is very lightweight, customizable and safe. I might give Google Chrome a try when I feel adventurous. But overall I am very satisfied with Firefox.

Don't listen to what people tell you because IE6 is the saviour of the internet! So what if there are gaping security holes, if it runs tens of times slower than other browsers, and in general offers a poor experience for users? It's Microsoft, and they don't need to work with others, they know better! IE had it right with their ignorance of the CSS box model, their sloppy implementation of JavaScript and shunning of PNG transparency.

whomever uses IE in the first place should be taken into a dark alley and beaten up...Firefox far surpasses IE in every way.. and has for years

I don't see a difference when I use Firefox on my mom's computer compared to IE on my computer. I don't feel like putting up all my Favorites and stuff again so why bother move when IE doesn't cause me any problems at all.
