Zio 1:
You will not win this fight, and you are not meant to. Before you get a
chance to do anything, Zio will use MAG.BARRIR, reducing any magical damage
you inflict to 1 (you won't even hit him with regular attacks).
The simplest way to get through the battle is to let everyone attack each
round (use Macro A if you haven't changed it). In the first round, Zio will
set his hands on fire (no effect), and do nothing in the second round. In
the round that follows he will summon NIGHTMARE, then use BLACK WAVE on
Chaz in the round after that. The battle ends abruptly with a cut-scene.
Zio 2:
Before initiating this battle, set up the following Macro:

As before, Zio will set up his MAG.BARRIR at the very beginning of combat,
nullifying all of your attacks. However, this time you have a trick up your
sleeve. Go to the Macro menu and select the Macro you made above. In the
first round that follows, Zio will summon NIGHTMARE, Rune will cancel the
magical barrier with the PSYCO-WAND, Gryz will enhance his ATK, Demi will
create your own barrier, Rika will further amplify this by increasing the
party's DFS, and Chaz will start the ball rolling with an attack.
From this point Zio will begin his offensive. His arsenal includes Hewn,
Corrosion, Black Wave, and a nameless red energy beam. The first two of
these inflict damage on all the characters (although little on Rune), and
Black Wave and the red beam deal a lot of damage to one character.
In the second round, let Chaz use CROSSCUT again, have Gryz attack, get
Rika to use SANER to make sure everyone gets to act before Zio, have Demi
use her PHONON, and let Rune use GIFOI. In the following rounds, Chaz
should continue using CROSSCUT (or GITHU if he runs out), Gryz should
attack constantly, Rika should use GIRES, Demi should attack, and Rune
should keep on firing GIFOI.
Get Rika to heal characters low on HP, taking into account Zio only uses
magic and that Gryz has very poor magic defence and Rune's magic defence is
very good. Always use Demi's RECOVER Skill if her HP gets low, and in dire
circumstances it may be a good idea to use some DIMATEs and let Chaz do
some healing, or even use Demi's MEDIC PW or a STAR-DEW. Whatever happens,
try to keep your characters conscious. Losing a character means that in the
following round both they and the character that revives them lose a turn.
If you watch your health and keep bearing down on Zio, there's no reason
for the battle to last more than eight to ten rounds.
