...But I noticed that Windows re-installed this update and is asking me to reboot as we speak. I'll have to update this thread to see if it comes back (and needs to be uninstalled again). When did Windows make updates so shitty? Jeez....

Anyway, for your specific issue, (1) Enable the windows key (2) Disable discord overlay (just for FFXI, don't try to use legacy-overlay with FFXI yet)(3) use the Windower addon "switch focus" or the Ashita addon "focuser".

I'm posting this because when I do reboot, the Windows update will have re-applied itself and I can repeat the above steps (and do some additional testing with the discord overlay).

One is a mislocalization or quality assurance of the number of plaudits rewarded. If you’re texting me? Sure, no worries. But this is FFXI. Serious business.

I mean they did mix up item ID numbers with the number of plaudits rewarded the other week.

The other one, yeah, fair enough, but, you know… kinda silly oversight. Especially with the title being a thing and mastery ranks now relevant to gameplay.

The orb thing too. Kind of knocked my motivation out on day zero with the “cosmic orb” mislocalization at JPM rolling over.

And the “phoenix down.” I’m here lurking, hard to say to Joe-casual to dig through the .dats and figure out this item doesn’t exist.

Eh, the Sparks thing is not really a bug, more a perfect example that they should have asked the janitor if this objective was without problems.

Personally, I’m having more fun submitting bug reports. If they give a blanket x hundred like Vana’bout #1, I’m a happy camper.

Acktually, thinking about it more and more, I'm having multiple issues with alt-tab. One is generic (happens in other full-screen games as well, but not other "software"), the rest are FFXI specific.
Let me try to throw them here, someone might have a vague idea on what the cause could be, there could be multiple ones!
This PC is fairly new (got it february/march last year) and these issues I'm experiencing started somewhat around january/february 2025, after a Windows 11 update but that could be just a coincidence.


General issue:
When I alt-tab back into a game, the screen image is "fixed", nothing moves, like it's a screenshot. The game actually feels my inputs from keyboard and pad and I can hear it from sound effects but on screen I can see a "picture" of my game's screen. How to solve it? Alt tab out, then alt tab back.

FFXI specific issues:
1) When I alt tab back to the game, the ALT macro is stuck on screen. Anything I try to type or to do, it's like I'm holding down the "alt" button. How to fix? Press the alt/ctrl keys once, the issue disappears.
2) When I tab OUT of FFXI (i.e. I go to another windows11 window, whatever it may be) the game somehow gets "stuck". I don't see or feel anything, but other people in game can see me red-dotting.
If I alt-tab back into the game, I notice for a nanosecond I had a red dot on my head.
If too much time passes, my character eventually DCs and when I go back to the game I see the FFXI POL error "network communication lost" or whatever it is, and after I press ok I get back to the char select screen.
How to Fix it? Well, I need to go back to the FFXI window within a certain amount of time, otherwise I'll just DC, no fix.
3) I can't alt-tab back to the game. I'm on Windows doing something, say browsing stuff on Chrome, use Alt-tab or windows-tab to go back to the FFXI. Nothing happens, I remain to my Windows software, whatever it may be. I try to click on the FFXI icon in my taskbar, nothing happens.
How to solve? Well, reduce all other software/windows to the taskbar, then FFXI will appear on my screen (was always there, on the background after all). If I click anywhere on the screen, everything is solved.


Strange thing for all these issues, as far as I can tell they NEVER happen if I use //game_minimize instead of simply alt-tabbing in and out.
Also another strange thing, these things are not happening all of the times, only sometimes, randomly. /shrug

I still view these scenes as commentary on the culture they are trying to criticize. if you are uncomfortable or find the villains actions disgusting that is kinda the point right?

You can make the argument they are a poor criticism, but idk that it would be right to think they are so bad that they are simply supporting the actions as acceptable.

Ideally, those who design these objectives would think of the consequences.

Ideally, it'd just loop back around and reoffer cancelled options once all other options have been completed.

The alien assaulting Momo was weird but you could even let it slide because it was purposelly exagerated cartoonish and you could say there wasnt that sexual malice on the aliens.

But the onsen scene with Momo, now that was an entire different beast. Those werent aliens nor fiends, but perverted malicious men assaulting in a very realistic way a young girl.

And it wasnt even draw like a joke. It was almost like a scene that could potentially happen irl.

This was awkward, and the story kinda of forgetting it like it wasnt a big deal was another no-no part for me. This exact scene in a more serious story could result in a life long drama for a woman. But in the story, Momo called them perverts, punched them and move on.

This is a fictional story, but they took too lightly one of the worst thing that can happen for a woman.

Perhaps sexualizing children isn't the best way to characterize it, but it's clear the author(s) intended to place genitals and sex as prominent themes throughout the first season. I didn't read the manga (I don't think I even finished season 2), but I don't think there's any need to make the aliens concerned with genitals from a plot standpoint. Since the show is about children, it's a little creepy to make that into a primary plot point from my perspective.

Of course, there's still a spectrum. It's nowhere near as creepy and pedophilic as something like Big Mouth. I'm not a puritan advocating for censorship. There's nothing wrong with children watching these shows, either; they're obviously more relatable for people who are currently dealing with the struggles of puberty. Just not my thing, I guess.

set Allow Windows Key to ON in the windower launcher, it is on the advanced page of the profile settings iirc

I ended up finishing my sparks exchange for the week early (yesterday) because of the extra sparks from vana'bout objectives.
Talk about a catch 22.

Watching Dandadan as an adult just made me uncomfortable with all the child sexualization. I guess it's not that uncommon a concept in anime, but they took it a little too far for my taste. To be fair, I'm sure it's intended for a teenage audience like most shonen.

This is caused by a change in how windows treats apps that disallow windows key. if you want normal alt tab you have to allow windows key through. The rise of this issue is why the switch_focus addon was written.

which ver did you roll back to? i quit playing since 25h1 broke alt tab for me

Also just noticed, Sparks of Eminance reward sum for today is also mislabled. It gives 20, not 10.

I'm having this issue too, I thought it was just me! It's specifically FFXI that's like... being resistant? sliding away from? alt-tabs. And I've never had a discord overlay on anything, ever, so it's not that.

I was just coming to report this.

A minor point, but I feel like most players ought to be moving to Shneddick Ring at this point in the game anyway.
