Edit: do Ody Gaol bosses give EP on kill? People throw themselves religiously at those, but I've never paid attention to if they do or not

I never bothered to look, but I guess technically they do...? I got 196 EP from a V25 Ngai. Not sure what ML everyone in the fight was, but either way it's a totally insignificant amount of EP compared to what you "spend" in deaths to get it, at least for the highest tier stuff.

Shiva just experienced 6 NMs spawn after JST midnight reset.
4 in Temenos and 2 in Apollyon + 1 ??? but that latter might been a coincidence since its based on RNG, I think...?

Ok reporting back, friend ML50 starting with 1,383,368 EP, killed by a scorpion in NE1. Raise 3 brought him to 1,378,481. Lost less than 5k, 4887 EP. That's with a 36% reduction from Grace.

For bonus I had him die again and accept a Raise 1. Took to 1,354,049. So lost 24,432 EP.

/DRG is the best, imho, because of the WSD boost and also the situational utilities of jumps.

/SAM is situational, /WAR is very generic and works. I prefer /DRG but /WAR ain't that bad.

/WAR unlocks Judgment for DNC too.

Yes. But unless you WS Disengaged, it's hard to get 5-6 WS unless you disengage or turn or something. That's why I said 3, because first WS will be boosted, Rf for second, might trigger an auto attack, that burns 1-2 more crits, jump/high jump burns more, etc. Gearswap gives an insane and unintended advantage where you'd normally only be able to squeeze 3 out vs a sortie boss or something you're kiting, or Aminon. Unless I'm doing something very wrong, that's usually how a Climactic plays out on DNC for myself and others I've watched.

I was referencing "Two rounds will, though."
If you have 6 "charges" of climactic and want to use 3 enhanced WSs, you can do up to 3 melee rounds, not 2.

And I was referencing using the first charge, rf for second charge, and being slow with two attack rounds which would burn your third attempt. If you get a triple attack or saber dance double attack proc and you're not fast enough, you might even lose it after the first attack round too.

What I was meaning with my comment is, there's other places to recoup the loss of exp, even the Limbus climb itself, doing a Peach Princess etc. Why do we need every content we touch to grant exp? HTBFs don't give EP, but we lose it if we die, noones complaining about that, that I see. Ambu was changed so no longer relevant.

You already balanced your own risk vs reward, by not taking an ML50 job to fight the NMs.

Can we please stop with this incredibly toxic approach of having to "man up" or "grow a pair" or "deserving" things?
This is not real life, we get plenty of that ***every day in each of our own lives.
While I do not endorse it I could totally understand it if we were talking about some rare or powerful items which are inherently tied to your "status" as a pro player, but can we please please pretty please stop giving this relevance to EXPERIENCE POINTS and LEVEL in a MMORPG in two thousand *** twenty five?

I mean, you don't have to tell me twice. I don't give a *** about ML. I've posted about 300 times on this very website telling people IDGAF about them, and encouraging others to not give a *** about them. I'm not at all proud of any ML on any job on either of my characters. They're nearly totally meaningless.

Which is why it does not matter at all if you delevel from ML50 to ML49. The impact is basically nothing, other than your precious feelings.

If it hurts your feelings that you lost 1 STR and 7 HP, I would continue to tell you to re-evaluate what MLs mean to you, because you have an unhealthy relationship with a boring, meaningless grind (that basically everyone bots). It's a totally hollow and pointless "achievement" that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Stop getting upset over losing ML and get a grip on the reality which is: it doesn't matter at all.

From the sounds of it, it's pretty easy to recoup lost EP from an ml50 death just doing sortie and Sheol lol
The tricky part about Sheol and Sortie (more the former than the latter, not sure what everybody does in Sortie but we don't really kill a lot of stuff) is that the amount of EP per kill, and hence the overall EP per run, that you get, is deeply tied to the difference between target's level and ML level of the highest person in your party.

The monsters level are fixed of course, but if you have 6 people at ML5 doing a sheol run, they're gonna get tons of EP (I know I basically got my COR from 0 to 20 just doing random Sheol C runs), but if at least one person in your pt is ML50, then everybody will get the EP per kill a ML50 would get, and sadly more often than not that's a pretty shitty amount of EP.

This effect, which may seem small per sé, becomes synergically more intense because the higher your ML, the higher the amount needed to reach the next one, in a very parabolic and not linear way.
So the more you level up not only you need a *** more EP, but you also get less for each kill. It's a vicious circle created by a demon to torture our poor souls.
(can prevent some of this with Level Sync of course)
By Garfield on 2025-10-12 09:47:46
They did balance risk, by giving us that reduction in loss with the Graces, currently on bahamut it's at 36%. The reward is still up for debate, many people the matter is meaningless it seems lol

Later today I'll ask my ml50 friend to go die in limbus and I'll raise3 them and see what the EP loss is and report back.

who gives a flying ***?
I do?
Unless you're at 3,5m above the ML50 (that is to say, ML51-1 if there was a level 51) then I'm pretty sure a lot of people do give plenty of *** about it?

After finally completing the insanely masochistical experience that is reaching ML50, you're so incredibly burned out and pissed out of that ***that you don't wanna go back to do it ever again, if possible. And dying more than a few times means delevelling down to ML49.

I dunno, I do give a lot of ***. I can imagine it won't be the same for everyone but at the same time I'm pretty confident there's gotta be plenty of other people who are exactly on the same boat as me.

This is not 2004 were people would brag reaching level 75 to those noobs struggling to find a pt in Jeuno and stuck at level 54, c'mon...

AFAC did like a lot to the RDM NM before it spammed breakga with 1hr. SMN strat would work though
By Dodik on 2025-10-12 09:35:36
Odds are you gonna die multiple times fighting the dangerous NMs.

You have to balance reward with both effort and risk.

Right now the fights are high effort high risk, questionable and not visible reward. As a result, a large majority don't bother.
By Akumasama on 2025-10-12 09:34:05
The core point to me is the fact that these NMs don't even give the EP and Units any other normal mob in the zone gives.
Zero, absolutely zero.
Feels like trolling if you ask me.
Would having them drop small amounts of units and ep create a big incentive to killing them?

I doubt it would radically change things, but it would be a (small) incentive nonetheless.
Small and due, if you ask me. The fact they give absolutely nothing feels so incredibly unpolished, incomplete and pure trolling.

I can only imagine it's because those NMs will have additional systems tied to their existence, but such systems are not in-game yet and as a consequence we get this "incompleteness" feeling.
By Garfield on 2025-10-12 09:26:41
Sechs you're right, 10k EP a kill wouldn't be that broken, I was on mobile and typing was a pain, your suggested 3k units would be 66k bonus units per zone which is more of what I was trying to say as the hefty bonus but didn't articulate it properly. But you quoted me replying to Dodik's 60k ep per NM, which actually would be kinda broken. 60k x 44 would be 2.6million EP if killed every NM which again there are absolutely people that would. Which is 1.5x more than you can gain doing daily Peach Princess but also cramped in 7 days instead of 30.

But, now that I'm on pc I can reply a bit easier and have had some good input I think. My opinion is that personal rewards would be flawed and forever unbalanced unless its something meager and meaningless like handful of EP per kill which would be pointless.

Instead adding it to the final chest reward to me looks to be the only answer. Either EP or units, something like say 50 units per NM killed added to the final chest reward, if all 22 NMs killed that would boost the chest from 3k to 4100. Over the week would only be 5500 bonus units.

Do you mean FC sets, or are you genuinely putting Hvergelmir in your cure sets? Regardless of gearswap or not, you should never cast a cure in a Hvergelmir.

Vanilla users often (not always) forego having precast/midcast sets, and just cram some fastcast in their midcast sets. This goes especially for spell with already natural low casting times.
Not only that but if you have lag then gear isn't swapping all 16 pieces for pre and midcast cleanly. A single set for pre and mid cast can be safer in zones with lag like ody c

I've never experienced whatever nonsense you are describing here...you hit /equipset 12 and the game equips...half of the set, but not the other half...because lag...?

Anyway, let's assume that actually happens, somehow. I'll grant that this happens. Please explain how making a hybrid FC/potency set improves that compared to what I do?

Are you going to try to imply that this lag miracle also applies to /equip main Hvergelmir ...? If so, I can assure you it never happens. I've had macros like these on SCH, RDM, and WHM for years and my log shows "equipment changed" 3 times for every spell, with 100% consistency. I have cast thousands, probably tens of thousands, of spells with these macros and I've never once seen the chatlog show 2x (or fewer) "equipment changed".

After that, the macros have the same number of equipset changes...so I'm not really sure what the advantage is here. You (or whoever is utilizing this strategy) are equipping 1 equipset (the hybrid FC/potency one) and I am also equipping 1 equipset (a cure potency set), except mine has better stats in it.

Even if we assume that somehow SE will not equip half of the set.

Don't put Hvergelmir in your cure midcast sets. It's just bad play.

Much respect to the folks who have the luxury of multiple Prime weapons, but Laphria? Nah. Not a valid or justified choice in my book. If you made it for fun like a Liberator cool, it’s your time and your $13 a month. But if you’re out here selling it as “META”? That’s where I step in and call it out.

Its more WAR that is Limbus Meta. You want a WAR in every NM killing party. Just like you want WAR in every v25 clear you can melee. Tomahawk and Warcry are huge party buffs.

Laphria just happens to be WARs best weapon when you can have a SJ. Meta jobs best weapon, nothing more or less.

Can the server have more than 4 NMs a side up at one time?
By Akumasama on 2025-10-12 09:11:07
A single death at ML50 with no reraise, outside of Limbus zones, is ~80k lost EP, to give you an idea of how blatantly anachronistic and stupid that whole system is.
By Dodik on 2025-10-12 09:04:20
Limbus is empty 23 hours out of 24 as far as I can see.

Asura things are Asura things, no one gives a f.

Unless you have a clear idea what killing an NM gives you, why spend hours doing it.

Even if it gives a relatively small percent, if that applies to every box opened by every player on the server, you're creating a pretty huge benefit. If you only think of yourself, it's possible they're worthless. If everyone considered it in the context of who else it effected, it seems pretty clearly worthwhile.
By Garfield on 2025-10-12 08:48:01
For the same reason people solo'd hundreds of VE Lilith's before the new update(and still will after) and the people who still farm shinryu. Because eventually the thing will drop. Lol
By Dodik on 2025-10-12 08:38:22
Increase drop rate by.. what. How much increase per NM.

We know the base rate sucks, not news. Unless you have a clear idea what killing an NM gives you, why spend hours doing it.
By Garfield on 2025-10-12 08:31:51
I wouldn't call an increased matter droprate 0 incentive though. Even if it's small. For all we know it's 2% increase per NM and if we kill 0 NMs then we have no chance at a matter at all. (Basing off the estimate of 40% drop the last few weeks)
By gargurty on 2025-10-12 08:28:48
can someone make a set for fast blade II on geo?
By Dodik on 2025-10-12 08:26:10
There is still zero incentive to kill them.
By Garfield on 2025-10-12 08:25:40
@Meliora I can't say much as I log off before JP midnight when they spawn and I haven't had time to do Limbus the last 2 weeks to see if any are unkilled, but I have seen a late night JP shouter forming an alliance to hunt them on bahamut
