How much of that opinion is tied to the lofty expectations SE set about the TVR endgame content...

I can't say, I actually beat tVR more recently. I'm also currently replaying it. Without any pre-existing expectations for it though, it's hard to relate to a lot of the negativity regarding the story. It's not great, not even it the top half of the stories IMO. But saying that tVR is not much better than ACP is a wild perspective.

Something was changed there recently, probably behaves differently now.

Physical damage isn’t dangerous currently.
By Mekaider on 2025-11-29 19:00:17
I have a question for physical focussed scenarios on PLD.

To me, the Chev. Gauntlets seem very good. All the guides appear to favour Sakpata. Sakpata does have more offensive stats and slightly more m.eva, but the shield defence bonus+ seems good to me (Reduces blocked damage taken by an additional -5 points of damage). When you're basically guaranteed to block, e.g. Duban, the flat dmg reduction seems really strong then also the benefit of the increased empy proc, though wouldn't be worth just for that.

Am I missing something / valueing SDB too highly?

or heard about it from a japanese player, or Who's Uncle Worked At Square Enix would post and it'd spread from there.

Worth adding as well that Weekly Famitsu Magazine ran articles on XI for years and years highlighting random quests and stuff, and had periodicals published like Vana’diel Tsushin and Lightning Brigade for more “advanced” stuff. There’s ~300 books/magazines/guides officially licensed in Japanese and these would trickle into English via those early internet communities.

Some quests and missions have the oddest requirements before they can progress, or require you to talk to a completely unknown NPC on the far side of the world and given no hints. Did people really just wait until someone accidentally stumbled upon it?

This always piqued my curiosity the most! So many quests involved really random tasks, for example the sub-job quest which involved trading a skull along some other ingredients, from all the tons of items in the game, how was it figured out which exact items to trade? trial from thousands?

Is that possibly confirmation that there is only one shadowed Yilb up at a time?

I believe so. Also, for NQ Yilbegan, I think Shio was looking for a few hours afterwards, and that might be able to share an actual repop time/window for that.
Between 8-9 hours it would seem based on observing zones with known ToD most came back up in quick succession after that time had passed.

We didn't try to spawn any while the shadowed was up, we waited about an hour after to start popping. Since the shadowed version did not spawn for us, it means there is likely an unknown respawn timer for it. From what I observed later that day checking zones, there's probably about a 6hr respawn on any Yilbegan, as the zones we cleared were still not up about 6hr later, but the zones the *** group killed were up.

When tartarus mail exists, there's no armor they could make uglier
By Dodik on 2025-11-29 15:32:00
Tbh I thought the neon armor was fake because no way they would make something so ugly.

Weird things happen.

SE never set those expectations, players got wild ideas about what could possibly be coming based on vague statements and poor translations.

TVR isn't an expansion, but quality is barely a step above any of those 3 add-on scenarios, and tried to do a lot of the same things.

The writers who worked on tVR btw is the same writers for CoP. The problem with tVR wasn't a lack of talent, it was a lack of budget.

I liked tVR a lot, but it's much more of a 'lore enthusiast's expansion'. We got a ton of info on the silent years following the meltdown, an account of one of the Yagudo wars, info on the ancient civilizations on Aradjiah, an explanation for the source and purpose of the Shadow Lord, some interesting lore on Odin, some info on beastmen societies, a brief explanation on the Astral Plane, etc. The list goes on. It feels like they wanted to elaborate on some of lore barely touched on throughout the game, but didn't have the budget to facilitate the confidence to dedicate a full mini expansion to any one topic of lore (obviously this would be the case, they couldn't add any real zones to the game). So, they touched on a different area in each chapter instead.

BTW, I don't see a new mini expansion coming out, not anytime soon anyway. But if one were announced, I wouldn't automatically write it off either.

major NMs in Limbus
ITT: reskins are major
they're major because they're Omega and Ultima

like, those are recurring FF-staples and were previously the final bosses of this exact content before it was redone

yes they're just reskins, but it's "major" rather than "here's some Fomor or whatever"

Reskins = not major, didn't you know? It's not like the V25s changed the game in any meaningful way...

Probably not.

C'mon Byrth, let your imagination go wild. There's a cap and maybe there's a SECOND SECRET CAP - say, losing 10,000 units to the aether. Maybe 100,000! Speculating nonsense is half the fun.

Keeping it abstract and unknown motivates players to engage with all sorts of random content you otherwise wouldn't. If they outright say that a few pieces of content don't effect it, the people who might've been doing that content won't.

Brings back some of the mystery / group collaboration / problem-solving from the old era too. I kind of like that they kept it this way.

In addition to this, I like that they have a (probably unreachable) rank 10. It gives a reason for people to keep striving.

Avereith and I did a bunch of crazy stuff earlier in this thread and then SE revealed that rank 8 was the cap and we slowed down/stopped.

What happened here and what I assume most has come to the conclusion is that Nalfey in some way pissed off someone to being massreported as I doubt SE has time or the resources to skim through Github/Gitlab all day since we'd seen lot of more of these types of situations.
Could also be they discussed their addons/tools in game to someone. Putting that stuff live on SE's ingame logs is a very bad idea. I remember someone (Selindrile maybe?) had a massive warning on their github for people to never contact them in game about addon questions.

https://github.com/Selindrile/GearSwap
Big multiple large warnings lol
And its solid advice

I remember doing dyna with a friend a while back, and he posts in game "the bots ran in", live on the chat logs. I was not entertained.

It’s been a while since I was cribbing any code from here but I’m pretty sure it was Selendrile that went to the length of detecting if any users of his luas were sending him a /tell and doing a best effort detection of if the tell contained any references to 3rd party tools and blocking it.

I thought it was pretty hilarious but yeah, solid advice to keep anything out of game chat logs. I feel like people have become MUCH more complacent to this in recent years whereas back when you didn’t even mention windower ever in game. Now people openly talk about luas, react, whatever

I am honestly loving it. I am seeing places and structures in the game that I didn't know existed. Grauberg(S) has a cabin in the SW quadrant that I have never seen before.

I wonder if they track total number of kinetic units "lost to the aether" or whatever, when you trade crystals to waypoints past the 50k cap.
Probably not. The reason for caps like that is so that they don't have to keep track of an arbitrarily large number, so they probably wouldn't implement a cap and then track an arbitrarily large number anyway.
