Why do people feel the necessary to post on forums that they are quitting?

The game is still fun because I only play 2-3 days a week and I’m not weak minded person to get addicted with a game while having some real life priorities.

Either way I think is dumb to delete a character after 2 years of work but then again everyone is different. Also, I have been this game for 8 years only 4 jobs are up to 80 couldn’t careless because when I log I do what I feel like doing.

tldr: it's my money I do what I want

The same reason you just posted your opinion about quitting the game. They can.

1. because i can and i didnt get to tell everyone i was quitting so people can see that i left.
2. the game was getting old to me nothing left for me to do besides leveling.
3. i dont really have the $13 a month to waste on a game i dont play

In that case I am quitting too since my wooden pony was stolen.

cuz ppl wanna hide the truth that the game is dying, you are breaking their safe bubble.

FFXI has been replaced (for the most part) with Abyssea, an area you can access just so often.

Instead of building up on ppls accomplishements (making old gear augmentable) square enix decided to scrap the accomplishments and create new ones. Instead of making new craftable items, square enix invented synergy. How do ppl make gil today and can safely say that its worth their time anyways? The game has been reduced to lvl up, get new easily obtainable gear with a linkshell or low man group, lvl up on next update, get another set of easily obtainable gear, etc.

No complaints at all just finds it a bit entertaining when people post their goodbyes. Perhaps people expect hugs when threads like these are made.

Good for you recognizing when it's time to quit.. too many people do not play for fun anymore or log on and sit idly for 12 hours and then complain they have nothing to do .. I kind of want to say GET SOME SUN :O!

As for the QQing over you posting, I would too ~ Many people do not log on often anymore and I would want my friends I have made in game to know I am no longer playing.

Someone say "end of game" as if being sarcastic~ A lot of vets have finished 90% of the story lines ,missions, quests, etc so really there is not much left except Abssyea now..and I would delete my toon too when I no longer play /shrug Why let someone benefit from my years of playing ( that's my own opinion).

Nah. I just quit the game permanently and decided I'd lie to a complete stranger over the internet about it. Keep the readers on the edges of their seats.
