public transportation here sucks ***, and doesn't run 24/7/365 because we have a monopoly on the utility and we pay what they tell us to pay. So average rent being 700(going cheap) electric random from 80-180 (depending on season) + food, + transportation expenses, I'm way over budget, I'm sorry but your ideas of minimum living are way too minimum, people can't survive for long periods of time on that, + medical expenses.
Lol most places don't run 24/7. Mostly cause that is rarely needed.

There is always conserving power. I personally don't use heat most the time and just snuggle up :). Turn lights off etc. Even in a 5 bedroom house I can keep it under $50 between gas and electic depending mostly on how much cooking I'm doing.

You did say previously cheap housing is 550... probably really crappy places cheaper but lets stick with your 550.

I guess I just grew up living with crap. Including not seeing a doc from age 5 to 18 lol

Not everyone works a 9-5 buddy, also yeah if you don't want roaches you're going to be paying at least 550, on the thing about electric, different areas require different heating needs and cooling, the average cost for the place i live now is between 200-300 a month in electric during the extremes, and I sit in the dark most of the time anyway...
I pay like 60-90 max for my electric and that's with all my ***running and this is in an older building so lol@u.
I believe I stated before that this area has a monopoly over the power.

Sagitario.

You are saying anyone who makes a child by mistake should abort it because they cant afford them?
And wtf are you talking about the ppl who have children for the benefits? Anyone with their right minds knoww that having a kid wont pay you a life. All you get is wic for having a kid, the other gov helps come from you being unable to afford a life. Having a kid just makes it easier to get them but not guaranteed and havign a kid is more expensive than whatever is gained.

Sure son if you cant afford a kid dont have it. If we all went by that rule a lot of people wouldnt be alive right now.

Again this kind of individuality is gonna kill humanity and will never help progress as a society.

You must have a sick heart to believe no child deserves help regardless if the parets can or cant or w\e.

Chaosx, you sound like a whiney ***.

You didn't get scholarships and grants? How is that my fault? Do better in highschool. Apply for said grants. Write essays, and meet the people that do the screening process for said grants.

I have a nice paying job now, 4 years after getting my degree, and I still eat the generic brands of food. I still eat ramen when I want a cheap and quick lunch. I'm still driving a piece of ***used car.
Remember once you graduate high school you can't do better.

Ok if you really compare stories then...

I worked my *** off in high school, grades and work wise, only to be acceptable into a decent school. No grants, no scholarships. Finical aid is how I paid for the first 3 years of college. $20,000 a year. Included housing and food.

After which time I realized that racking up loans wasn't the way to go. I worked for about 6 months during college as full time, and that definitely wasn't working for me.

It's kind of hard to take up 2 majors/2 minors (Comp Sci and Math) while working like a fiend.

So I went with what I know, and just dealt drugs for another 3 years. Paid for everything and then some. Still only drove cheap $2-3k cars cause I didn't see a reason to buy new. STill used the schools meal plan.

After I graduated I moved back in with my mom for 2 years, took an ok job, $14/hr. Just to trim down some of those loans I had, as you have to pay them back after you're out of school. Doesn't hurt to save up money too.

Move out of the house, lived in a nice condo for a year making $28/hr. Lost my job. Took up drug dealing again.

Got another job closer to where I grew up. Still get to live on my own, making $36k a year now and have all my debits down to under $20,000 (from almost $80k).

In between all this done some jail time, never for drugs though, stupid things you do while *** up. Paid lots of court fines, lawyer's fee. Sued a drunk driver at one point for $10k. Definitely wasted that money, but oh well.

So yeah my story's not exactly the kind that seems like an example, but it's what worked for me.

So I'm not whining about anything! I live perfectly fine, and well off. But all these many years, being with lots of different people, not everyone lives these perfect lives.

By no means am I financially responsible, although I have gotten a lot better over the past few years, but you do what you got to do to live the way you want to live. Go with what you know and go with what works for you.

All I know is I worked for minimum wage in high school ~40hrs a week and knew once I quit that was not the life style for me.

Absolutely not, your not reading my posts properly. I said that people who deliberately have kids when they know fine well they can't support the child should make more effort to put themselves in a position where they can, it is they who should be providing for the child not the government. I'm not sure how it is over there but I actually know people who live off child tax credits here in the UK, again that is no reason to have a child.

Now let me clear up a very important misconception you are creating about me. I never stated anywhere that a child does not deserve help, does not deserve to be fed. What I said was that the parents who willingly go ahead and have kids despite not being able to provide for them should not rely on the government to provide for the child in their place. I never said anything about genuine unplanned pregnancies or abortion o_O, hell you just put those words in my mouth. I don't see anything wrong at all with the government helping parents who genuinely slipped up and got pregnant.

edit: Ty Weewoo, responsibility is the word I've been fishing for all this time XD

I live in Kentucky, which is alright and all. This is one of those states that notorious for hemorrhaging tax dollars on un-qualified welfare and unemployment.

My brother, who hasn't worked in two years, is still drawing full unemployment from his last job. Between him and his wife they make an adequate amount to support themselves and their kids. Theres no questions, no "why aren't you employed yet?", no auditing or anything. They're just "allowed" to draw unemployment until the benefit is exhausted. I'm not condemning my brother for it or anything, in fact he agrees that its a little insane that they're just allowing that money to pour out without asking where it was going.

Myself however, my last job was in Indiana. I got laid off, and for the period I required unemployment, I had to provide an exhaustive amount of documentation each week about jobs I have applied to. There were weekly quotas about how many jobs I applied to and how many job "searches" I performed. I missed one week and the benefits were terminated, and they wouldn't allow me to draw anymore. I probably could have fought it, but I had a "sure thing" from my current employer and wasn't concerned about it.

On a sadder note, my white-trash niece recently got pregnant by a man that was essentially a stranger to her, just so she could draw welfare(and has bragged about her endeavor quite a bit). The fact that she is a white woman with a minority baby has secured her livelihood for the next several years.

Ok, thats my long-winded story^^

Unless you have media and potential voters on your side and direct form of contact (not email), they'll turn the other cheek. Politicians of any kind will do things in either their best interest or the lobbyists that pay them, not the people they represent.
