Seems like a huge(and needed) update. Let me know if you think it's worth paying for yet slip
That's too subjective, if I had to, I'd be paying for the game now, because I'm having fun again, but it's not like a ton of new content has been added since I quit.. Just a lot of things have been made far less frustrating.. There are countless people who wouldn't pay for the game now.
The changes to FFXIV seem huge...but of course seem to mirror FFXI's battle system, which is understandable as a sizable player-base came over from FFXI.
But I wonder if anyone is upset over the changes at all, or if anyone (maybe those not used to FFXI or MMO's in general) actually preferred the older system.
I did at first, and I came from FFXI.. But after awhile it just gets so damn aggravating to have to keep hitting something all the time, manually.. In XI i didn't feel melee (besides BST and DNC, because you were always busy with abilities/finding new pets and such) was all that engaging... In XIV I wanted to stay away from being a mage, because I spent the vast majority of my time in XI as a mage.. But in XIV you spam WS and abilities on all melee, so even with auto-attack it'll still feel engaging.
Yah I hear you...I've played several games where there is no auto-attack (Dungeons & Dragons Online, City of Heroes, etc.) and they get along ok despite the button mashing and "whack-a-mole" type interface (i.e. watch which icon/button flashes back up so you can hit it again.) :p
But FFXIV I found was a bit cantankerous because the UI just felt so unresponsive...it would buffer attack commands so when some critical timing moment came along (in melee at least) like a stun WS or such it would always come too late or not get registered in the command buffer at all.
But glad they put that in (from a biased FFXI perspective)...for sure I'm all about trying new games and layouts and playstyles, but some games just need an auto-attack to avoid button-mashing. At the very least, since FFXIV didn't come with bundled VOIP software features like other newer games, giving the players a small break from pushing keys/buttons lets them chat a bit more easily in combat. :p
LOL! Someone in XI just called me a noob for not pulling ITs on my RNG while there are THFs 15 levels above me who are just as capable.
Herp derp, let's have the Ranger pull twice as slow with twice as much hate on pulls with 1/4 the evasion of our thieves. Totally!
Maybe Aly needed the evasion skill ups! ;_;
Aly has 90 Nin, Thief, War, Dancer, and many other 90s. There is no way in hell that she needs evasion skill ups >_>; Those people trying to make her pull are numb nuts. They should be drug out in Al'Taieu and fed to Om'Phuabo!

Nuuuuu! Feed 'em to the fishy ones! I like the fishy ones and if they are eating people I don't like, that makes 'em even better! :D

I tried FFXIV on launch, and stopped playing after a month or so passed. my gripe with the game itself it was the command imput lag (menu lag too), like you mention, you would tell the game to do something, only to have it register a couple seconds later, also didnt help that you didnt have to auto attack so you spammed the button to hit stuff.
dont know if things have changed much, but also, while yes, visually apealing, the game didnt felt like you belonged or as engaging or motivating to keep at it. =(
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
