We are diving into the murky depths of the psyche of the average waiter or waitress... not necessarily condemning your choice of beverage.
But in your case I would recommend ordering a coke and a water if you want good service.... or mineral water.
the point is to NOT give the impression that you are a cheapskate right off the bat. and I tell you his from the careful study of ten million servers over twenty five years of experience ordering in restaurants...

Which, I think, is silly.
Yeah, people stiff you on tips, but you know what? 9 times out of 10 it's because you stiffed them on service.
I gave a $1 tip today because the service during lunch was very lousy. I usually give 12+% (generally give more than 12% because I round up to the nearest dollar after the 12%), but this guy was horrid. The only reason why I gave him a buck was because I at least got my food and ate before my lunch hour was over. If he didn't do that, I wouldn't have tipped at all today.
It seems to me you have already ignored a great deal of good/general advice already... So I don't know how receptive you'll be now...
But the first step is to take responsibility for your share of the blame for this situation and move smartly to get yourself out of it.
If coincidentally they "get off scott free" in the process or not, doesn't matter in the slightest. It's well past time you wake up and pull your head out of your *** and start acting like an adult.

1.) never borrow or loan money to or from anyone ever
2.) never sign a lease or contract with someone else
3.) never live anywhere that costs more than 35% of your monthly income
4.) save up for the things you want and need to buy
5.) set aside and save at least 10% of every paycheck
As you live and grow older you will learn that poverty is the direct result of the stubborn and idiotic refusal to follow these five rules. Nothing more.
All human beings are born with the inability to appreciate that which they did not earn. That's why lottery winners go bankrupt. That's why government handouts don't work. That's why people on unemployment don't look for work. etc. etc. etc.

You're absolutely right Niko, and I willingly or rather inadvertently accepted these godawful conditions in hindsight for the sake of gaining a sense of independence. However, it has been difficult to bend my nature of hospitality and generosity, much to my dismay financially and mentally. If anything when this whole scenario pans out, it will serve as a lesson hard learned. It just pains me to blur the lines between precaution and and selfishness.
But all in all, you're correct. I am learning that most people are ***, and I need to accept that and act accordingly instead of pleading ignorance while it drags me to financial ruin.
Right now, more than anything, I need to learn what direction to take or what would be the smart move to make.
But no really this is kinda odd, I'm not sure if it's just a OS thing that's preventing it, or if it's really just not working now, it opens and closes (getting power at least?) but as far as reading it doesn't seem to be doing anything... which means either I broke it somehow, my OS is being lame as crap (it's 8.1 .... what can I expect ...) orrrrrrr I might be missing a driver somehow (but aren't most DVD drives PnP?)

She walks all over him. Everything was fine and obligations were always paid in a timely manner before she was introduced. Now she has more or less been leeching on our hospitality for the past 7 months, while my friend's finances have been dwindled down to intolerable ineptitude.

It's not selfish to keep what you earned when you understand giving it away can't possibly be appreciated by anyone.
The whole "teach a man to fish" thing is true. Not only do they only eat for a day when you give them a fish but they expect another fish the next day and the next day and the next day then they get mad at you if you don't give them one the next day rather than appreciate all the times you did give them one... which is why when you cut your friend off, he will get pissed off at you.
It's not just your friend or his girlfriend. It's everyone. It's one of those universal truths that would be nice if they weren't true but they are and you have to deal with them.
The only way to get out of that scenario is to not ever loan them money in the first place.
