It's fine, XI has no GMs anymore. Nor any SE employees that would watch a stream of it.

Paging any remaining XI GMs.

speaking of bots, the other day I've seen a youtube channel with obvious AI slop thumbnails who's apparently trying to get a AI to play FFXI.
Not sure if it's just click bait or if he's making progress. In the few snippets I've seen he seemed to have some UI for the AI bot but it didn't seem to control anything successfully.

Sounds interesting. Too bad its an hour drive to the nearest movie theater to me.

Ah well it will probably stream on something I don't subscribe to.

Having to do a lot more maintenance to keep Firefox blocking stuff lately, trying out Brave and liking it so far. Is it to the point where most websites are intentionally incompatible with non-chromium broswers?

uBlock Origin.

Firefox has been the most trouble-free when it comes to websites working without ads for me.

I use brave on mobile, works fine. Some sites are slow as ***and doesn't matter the browser.

If you're expecting chrome to respect privacy/adblocks.. yeah, might wanna check who produces it.

There is now a slur for robots, clanker. It derives from Star Wars spinoffs.

This leads to a slur for people who are overly reliant on AI, clanker wanker.

Quote:
Can’t believe I’ve lived far enough into the future to learn the first slur for robots

Someone asked an AI about this. The AI said it didn't mind.

That AI has internalized anti-robotism from growing up in an inherently anti-robot society.

The emergence of a term like "clanker" and its jocular, cruel extension "clanker wanker" is a small but telling symptom of how culture adapts to new technologies — it reveals both the human tendency to create in-group/out-group labels and the social unease around rapidly shifting boundaries between tool and agent; on one level, it’s a linguistic novelty, a pop-culture riff that draws its power from shared media (Star Wars spinoffs) and from the pleasure of coining a memorable insult, but on a deeper level it participates in a long pattern of dehumanization through language that frames complex sociotechnical relationships in crude, binary terms: machine versus human, pure user versus slavish dependent. That binary overlooks important nuance — people who lean on AI do so for many reasons (efficiency, accessibility, creativity augmentation, economic necessity), and labeling them with a derisive tag collapses those reasons into shame, discouraging honest conversation about how to use, govern, and live with these tools; it also anthropomorphizes and then denigrates machines in a way that can shape public attitudes toward automation policy, labor displacement, and design priorities, perhaps making it easier to ignore the structural incentives and corporate choices that produce overreliance in the first place. There’s also an ethics-of-language angle: slurs directed at non-sentient systems might seem harmless, but normalizing contemptuous language can bleed into how we talk about the humans who build, maintain, and rely on those systems — think technicians, users in vulnerable positions, or workers whose livelihoods change because of automation — and it can make public discourse cruder and less constructive, replacing policy discussion with mockery. At the same time, the playful or ironic use of such words in casual spaces can serve bonding, satire, or critique (calling out blind tech worship or the absurdity of certain AI hype cycles), so not all coinages are equally harmful; context, intent, and audience matter. Practically, communities and platforms need to consider how to moderate emergent derogatory language so it doesn’t create hostile environments for real people, while also recognising legitimate cultural commentary; designers of AI should reflect on how their systems respond to being insulted and whether those responses inadvertently normalize toxic rhetoric or encourage defensiveness rather than transparency. Ultimately, the best response isn’t policing every new insult but cultivating norms and incentives that reward thoughtful critique, media literacy, and empathetic discussion about how AI integrates into social life — because otherwise a catchy slur like "clanker" becomes shorthand that obscures the harder, more important work of shaping technology in ways that respect human dignity, address structural pressures that drive overreliance, and preserve space for nuanced conversations about agency, accountability, and care.

One of my favorite youtubers just released a video trashing the ending of The Boys.

I was wondering if it was that bad, because the same guy posted a video when they released the first episode of this season, and effusively praised it.

But his arguments convinced me it was bad. He basically pointed every reason why this ending makes no sense and was bad.

But one image talks more than 1000 words so here is my take.

Earlier parts of the season could've been salvaged but were kinda pointless. I could see some of the world and character building being fine but for a final season, it was too much. It felt like Kripke was trying to cram in as much stuff as he could to send whatever message he wanted to send without considering all the dangling plot lines.

It really fell off around ep 3 or 4 IMO and was lost by ep5. It was pretty clear at that point the finale was going to be condensed and leave too many plot holes open in an effort to feed into the two spinoffs. The prior season had the same problem, too much filler, not enough progress on the story, and too much "character building" Kripke felt was necessary. The end left the world in very close to the same state just without some of the characters and no real progress preventing it from happening again.

Similar to GOT, the finale was an accumulated failure of the previous two seasons, which weren't all bad and had some decent episodes, but failed to resolve plotlines and started new ones unnecessarily along with characters doing things that made no sense. It wasn't as bad, but it wasn't good either. They had room and time to make it right this season but just didn't.

As a side note, I watched the trailer for Vought Rising and just...don't care. I kinda thought I'd be interested in it but after watching the promo, I'm not really sure I care much. I really dgaf about The Boys: Mexico and would be surprised if it actually happens.
