I posted this yesterday, for those who don't know, this is Erica Anderson, she's a waitress in the game Catherine. Now due to the nature of the game and how the story plays out, it just isn't my type of game so I've never played it, but I have followed some LPs. One thing about Erica bugs me, I'll spoiler this just in case...
First a bit of detail on Erica, Erica is transgender, apparently regarded as fairly attractive since she is hit on by her boss as well as the younger guy in the group, Toby. Toby eventually loses his virginity to her and states sex with her was strange, and that "it was big.".....WHAT was big? Is this line heavily misunderstood in that it was a big moment for him or is it implying Toby is so dim that he wouldn't realize if she were pre-op?
Secondly; in the game, men who aren't willing to settle down and have children are weeded out and killed in their sleep by Erica's boss via nightmares. Only men are supposed to have the nightmares, more specifically, men who are unwilling to settle down and procreate and/or cheat on their lover.
This leaves an issue as Erica (biologically male) starts having nightmares...Toby does not. Toby seems to want to settle down and have children but Erica is unable and thus SHE is preventing him from reproducing. This doesn't make sense; if it were about reproduction, Erica would be having the nightmares due to her unwillingness to settle down as well as her knowingly "preventing Toby from reproducing" and Toby would be having them due to wanting to settle down with a woman who couldn't bear children. This is Mutton's logic; drive non-reproductive couples apart to lead them to reproductive relationships.
So this leads to another reason as to why Erica has nightmares; Mutton is her boss who hits on her which she rejects. Mutton, as a human shepherd would want to preserve Toby's life and possibly keep Erica for himself. >.> As odd as it sounds and as sound as your argument is keep in mind the point of the trials are first and foremost to "separate men from fertile women they have no intention of procreating and starting a family with." While it's true that Toby is attempting to settle with a woman who cannot bear children, the fact of the matter is he wants to procreate and for all intents and purposes assumes that Erica can. Erica however knows full well she cannot and also has no intention of settling down and having children(at least biologically). Toby is therefore technically innocent in the eyes of the trial and while they could still attempt to punish Toby we also need to keep in mind the trial is designed for men who are holding back perfectly fertile mates from having children, which Toby is not doing, but Erica is.
The trial is in place to punish people for holding back others, not for holding back themselves.

Atlus aways been about releasing games with complex, awesome plots who make the players think. (Megami Tensei series come to mind)
I bought Catherine for the PS3 a long time ago, but the darn game is still wrapped on it's plastic wrap because I keep playing FFXI. Well when my sub expires next January, I'll move it to the top of the "to play" pile.

The trial is in place to punish people for holding back others, not for holding back themselves. Very good point. Maybe her trial is to separate her from a fertile man. In that case, maybe gender doesn't matter after all, there just aren't any cheating women in the game, I don't think.

Well when my sub expires next January, I'll move it to the top of the "to play" pile. Yeah, I like the Persona games, more specifically Persona 3, the cast is familiar to me. lol
I started playing a ton of games after FFXI, I play FFXIV casually because I don't feel I need to spend my every waking hour playing to keep up, I felt I did in XI. My 3DS collection has begun to grow, when I quit XI, I only had Ocarina Of Time DS.
Also, as for Erica, I see her as a rather nice representation of transgender people in gaming. She's regarded and accepted as a woman and is even hit on by a person (Mutton) who knows.

Gorgeous environments. But that's about as much as I can say about it for now. Kind of disappointed they're advertising this "full scale rpg" as a selling point for a platform that runs contrary to such objectives.

As far as we know that might be the only plus for the game, which I find to be impressive being that it's on mobile.
Touch screen controls seems like it would ruin the experience of a game like this, so it's a bit weird to me.

I'm indifferent, just between the two, obviously I'd rather see a chick diddle herself than a guy.

Aye. For all the leaps and strides mobile gaming has made over the years, it still has a cognisant veil between playing something in a controlled environment where you can play at your leisure with higher capacity hardware and a controller vs gaming-on-the-go with a tablet or phone. We'll have to see how this plays out, but hopefully in the years to come we'll see that broad border between mobile and home gaming diminish; assuming physics don't get the best of smaller form factors.

I have no problem with mobile gaming, especially on the ones that let you use the hdmi out to a bigger screen, but my only real gripe is the controls, I've yet to meet a mobile game where the touchscreen didn't piss me the *** off. Or a touchscreen in general that didn't usually piss me off.

That's probably the biggest obstacle to overcome. Handhelds do this well because they're self integrated and remain relatively steadfast to the standard of analog stick(s), d-pad, 4 primaries, and 2-4 LR buttons. I'm very glad to see mobile nip at the heels of conventional gaming, but I still find that the very nature of mobile gaming runs contrary to what I perceive as optimal immersion. Whether that be a bigger screen, better hardware and peripherals, or even just being in a more controlled environment.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
