I think it over simplifies a reality to fit an otherwise sound philosophical approach. One would have to assume all emotions started out at the same intensity for this to be true. So right from the start I already disagree with it.
There is no slope of desensitization towards emotions either.

Growing up hormones calm down and this also makes them easier to handle(some learn better than others). Your body has just switched the way it works. But that doesn't mean you can't crush on someone, feel excited, etc, it just doesn't happen as often.

Then of course there's traumas which can play a large role in your perceptions, but not everyone has those.

The older I get the more I question that. It seems everyone has suffered some kind of trauma before 18.
