I was pretty sure the Mayan calendar ended at that point because they ran out of calendar stone, but hey, omens and special meanings are so much easier than hauling out another stone and writing more general and vague predictions upon them.
Hope you all had a nice New Year's.
I enjoyed vast amounts of sushi, beer and topped it off with dessert of green tea ice cream :3
Unfortunately I've been coughing up a lung all night and had to end it on a note with nasty cough medicine :/

Feel better Hipster Cat. Hopefully you get Hipster Vet, and that way you can remain underground.
Seriously though, feel better Arte. I'm gonna hit the hay.
I support your Sushi eating Arte! I am fond of it as well, though I can't help but agree with my father's sentiment on it, "Whether it tastes good or not... I can't help but not go out to eat it. I mean, why go out and pay for someone to not cook or barely cook your food?"
Sashimi is only one tiny thing in the wide spectrum of what covers sushi. Regardless of whether it's cooked or not, the amount of preparation and skill to effectively make it is something to admire.
Plus it tastes damn good too. If you don't like it, then that just means there's more for me.
Y2k was suposed to happen cause of technology, which didn't.
2012 has some sources directed at it, but it doesn't state if its a good change or bad, or it just predicts the coming of a pony or a double rainbow, aliens, zombies, solar flares, meteorites, ghosts, dimensional rifts, waking up from a dream, sky turns purple instead of blue, or some random event

At least y2k had some remote chance of plausibility in the framework of current technology back then. Now we're just going based on hokey religion and ancient folk tales. (Ala Han Solo)

Goodnight Sushi Hipster! :P I kid, I kid, but seriously, goodnight.

I am aware of this difference, and have even taken the time to look at lots of different sushi's, what they are comprised of, how they are made, etc..
No sushi has ever grabbed me and go "You must eat me! I AM DELICIOUS" the way say, traditional southern cooking or mexican ever has..
Given the second part of what I just said, this is going to sound a little hypocritical, but I am NOT a fan of rice/pasta.. (this is where it gets less hypocritical) any rice/pasta I eat has to be generously seasoned and even then, it must be a very savory flavor, but not enough so that it comprises the main, or one of the main flavors of the dish.. It should (never used this word before in this way before, so if it's wrong, don't go all grammar-nazi on me, but it's the only one I can think of) accord with the main dish and flavors. It's more than simply blending, but less than complimenting and adding..
I am also not a fan of sour food.. The only time I like sour is sweet and sour sauce and only on McDonald's chicken nuggets (no others, there's just something about what they do, I have tried with home cooked and various varieties of pre-made/store bought) and egg rolls and when it's fresh fruit (I do like sucking on a lemon) or candy. Any other time, sour has no place in my mouth <_<.

I'm not opposed to trying things that I think are gross, I ate frog legs and the whole idea of it being from a frog disgusted me, but I wanted to try them just to say I had.. There's just no sushi that sounds good to me, it's not my kinda food..
BTW frog legs aren't any good.. Not quite nasty, but they aren't something I'd choose to eat again in the future.. Tasted kinda like sardines, just something very fishy and swampy tasting about them.
my prediction for the 2012 event is that the magnetic poles will shift noticeably (i believe i heard on tv or something that theyre already starting to drift a bit, and a pole shift is due) which has the possibility of leaving us without a magnetic field that protects us from solar storms etc

Poles do reverse and we are overdue for a pole shift, I can't remember exact numbers, but for example, they happen about every 20,000 years and it's now been 22,000 since the last one..
That said, they aren't anything like doomsayers project.. It happens relatively quickly and other than animals who navigate the field and our compasses and the like would really be effected, the field would only suffer minor weakening. The field would still be there, and those most affected by the entire process would be those at the poles now, that's where they're weakest, and as they weakened before completely reversing, those at the poles would be exposed to a significant increase solar radiation not caught and driven by the field..
As for the already wandering pole, yes that is happening, but it's also been a constant process with our planet.. It doesn't really ever stop, and it never really 'began'..
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
