have been a very long time that they don't release new jobs, since 2008 WoTg

We have twenty.
WoW has like... 9 I think?
The difference being is that the classes are greatly developed in WoW, while each one in FFXI only extends so far in it's capacities and purposes aside from magian trials, so I don't think the answer would be more jobs to level.

Not that this was a wow vs ffxi comparison, but adding more underdeveloped jobs to create a non-existing time sink (thanks abyssea) for more money doesn't seem ideal
this is a job system based game, not race, it costs 1 dollar per ID and you can change jobs (classes) on the same character unlike wow

True, but look at it this way. Rather than having everyone get excited about a new class, immediately bandwagon it, abyssea burn it to 90 and figure out all the mechanics and how to play it ideally within a few weeks; wouldn't it be more interesting to add more abilities, traits, spells and depth to existing classes making each class a little more unique, useful, tactful, and therefore adding something to essentially "master".

Sure there will be elitists that have to be best at everything, but it gave great satisfaction in playing your particularly favorite class and being damn good at it. With the current amount of depth the classes have, it just isn't quite reaching that same level of satisfaction despite there being 19 other jobs.

No! Geomancer and Time mage, its new and sparkly.

I kinda want more races =/

A good start would be allowing racial/face/height/name changes as an additional service.

I don't agree with name changes, but some type of "plastic surgeon" implication wouldn't be bad. Cannot change race/name though. People would be able to get away with anything by doing something like ninja-lotting then running off and changing their name/body. You would never know who did it. At least with just a body change, people will still know your name.

Eh I dunno. *** are ***, and frankly they're everywhere.
If they're willing to pay an extra $25 to steal virtual items, then so be it; it's their paycheck right?

Them paying won't bring back any time/effort spent to try to get whatever the item was.

Frankly it's just as easy to do a name change with an extra content ID and a server transfer service. I don't see what the big deal of doing a name change service would be, regardless of honest and dishonest players.

FFXI never got much beyond 500,000 users.

That was fine for the development cost of an MMO circa 2003. Graphics are the most expensive part of MMO development, so if you want a remake of FFXI with current-gen graphics, you need to somehow get many times as many users as you did originally.

Which would involve such a massive redesign, nobody who liked the first FFXI would play anyway.

I think the biggest problem now is that it's an over saturated market to be making a new MMO. It's difficult enough to appeal to a target audience that for the most part is already partaking in something else. Even more difficult to appeal to those who never have played or even considered an MMO to begin with.

Frankly, it was a fluke that I played FFXI. It was the next FF installment in the series, and it caught my attention that it was online, so I went from there and kept playing. So the only grace SE has right now is that it has FF attached to the name. Which hasn't been going so great for them with their most recent installments.
i started ffxi cuz i got a promotional poster from E3 =3

It's funny how I got into FFXI.
Around spring of 2002, I was randomly looking around computer hardware sites and decided to check the main site for my least favorite video card company: ATI.
Main page had some sort of promotion for beta testing Final Fantasy XI.
My jaw dropped because I had no foresight or information whatsoever of the next FF installment, so I jumped in and signed up and several months later the beta package for FFXI NA PC edition was delivered to me. I've been a part of the game since.

I played XI initially because some friends on another forum had a very specific XI section and they talked about it all the time. At that point I was pretty heavily into Runescape and thought no other game would make me happy.

Then for my Birthday my parents bought me it and my info in PoL to this day still is my dad's details.

I logged into XI made an elvaan and went to sandy to try stuff out and it was the summer festival.

This is why this song will always epitomise XI to me.

I was exploring, loving this music and I remember being really confused when a SMN was skilling up, but from that point I was in love.

For me only two options would make sense. FFXI-2 or a Dragon Quest Online.

FFXI-2 because FFXI is winding down and has like probably 2-3 years left before they shut it down and SE would probably love to keep the FFXI subscribers and just move them to a new game. Plus, if they used the FFXIV engine it wouldn't cost them that much to develop FFXI-2.

As for Dragon Quest, well it's SE other huge RPG franchise; bigger than FF in Japan. It would make sense to have a DQ online game.

Oh cool! I loved Dragon Quest IX, definitely a step in the right direction in terms of gameplay. The story was a little weaker than the older entries but I was lucky enough to get a chance on multiplayer. Hoping that this isn't as much of an MMO as it just extends DQ9's multiplayer functions. It was entirely optional and did not hurt the single player.

I wond-
