When I fought him on BLU recently, I could keep him from ever having the Ice Spikes that deal 50% damage you deal back to you simply by doing Fire Damage here and there, didn't know about the behind WS thing though.
Asked for help from social LS, and a COR came out and kill it from ranged with lots of Leaden and Wildfire.

Old *** question.
Do the melt series of weapons enchantments weaken enemy defense without resist checks? aka, is it 100% when the enchantment is up?

Bumba v15+ and beyond
Jobs options left..
BLU or DRG both savage blade setup
Debate
BLU: TP bonus sword, potential AM use, MightyGuard, quality hybrid tpset
DRG: ancient circle, jumps? Spirit surge, other dragon ja
I don't play enough DRG but having recently acquired a +2 earring I am weighing my Bumba jobs.. I also might be biased.
I already have war, Cor, brd, rdm, lolnin, BLU
Is DRG going to bring something to the table over BLU
How valuable is the 2 jas on bumba?

7.5+ (minimum) damage increase for everyone via ancient circle
-25% def down from angon (presuming aug relic hands)

The 2 JAs are a very big deal. Other than MG, BLU is not even close to comparing to DRG. DRG should also have higher WS damage and frequency than BLU. BLU should not use Tizona for it, Naegling is superior and can't use Exp. because it SCs with Savage.
This all assumes the same gear/player on both jobs, of course. Plenty of BLUs out there who can trash on DRGs, but if they're both properly geared, I'd take a DRG for Bumba every time. Or both!

BLU could do Tourbillion two or three times (depending on RD) for 33% def down. I generally assume there will be 25% def down by default (armor break or shell crusher) so I wouldn't consider Angon to be a plus. Properly geared (has JSE) DRG should give +20 Dragon Killer for the entire fight, which since Bumba is an NM is 10% SDT and 10% damage bonus, from wiki:
The damage reduction from Killer Effects is calculated as a multiplier after gear reduction totals.
The damage bonus from Killer Effects is calculated where the affinity term exists in a damage equation or as a direct multiplier where they don't exist.
This DT is very strong and can save your bacon, ditto the damage bonus since it applies to 4-5 people's damage. Add on to that the Dragon Breaker bonus which, while not crazy, is still icing on the cake.

I ruled out Tourbillion for this reason. It is a higher def down though.
Shell Crusher chains with Savage, which will put a couple seconds hold on the DPS. Armor break doesnt, however there is still that minor chance of a miss, no risk of Angon missing or being resisted. Also means the person responsible for the armor break can go right to Savage. Its not a huge DPS hit, but its there.
I was mistaken on the NM potency hit though, I thought it was cut in half (the 7.5), not cut to 2/3rd. Either way, a straight 10% damage bonus to everyone is huge, and we both agree that for Bumba, if the options are DRG or BLU, go DRG.

I have not used tourbillion enough but with both 1h ja's it should land as well as having a charge for mighty guard.
The ancient circle and the dragon breaker seem pretty hard to beat.
AM we have in the past timed tizona ws with opening ws to keep from sc. The thought was more frequency at the cost of some dmg.
Would be interesting to run the numbers with the python tool of tizona vs nag for savage to see how far off the dmg is

The only reason to use DRG over BLU is someone else in your group has an even better geared DRG / of their job selection relative to the needs of the group, DRG is their best option.

Are there any good, updated returning player guides these days? Haven't played in a couple years, and I'm not sure what all has changed.

Angon + Tourbillion are effectively a wash, Bumba will have a good chance of removing it with Heaven's Grace, so you're not even getting full use out of it. But I give the edge to DRG, even though the -def% is lower. DRG has an easier application of Angon, and since you will using RD/WC, Angon use is faster than popping UL/UW > Tourbillion. Also, Angon cannot miss, Tourbillion can, two chances actually (whiffing the ability OR not landing the debuff).
If you have a good GEO on the team, Mighty Guard can be ignored if you use Entrust Haste from the lobby, which with max duration, should give you at least a good 2 minutes of use. You can apply MG midway through the fight if need be, since RD will reset UL. But you can avoid all of that and just use haste 1 if you are bringing a whm or something. Caps magical with SVHM
DRG is clearly stronger than BLU, its not even close. Both of DRGs SPs are way better than BLUs (you assume using SPs since they are WCing in zerg), and it's abilities are far more useful. So for your personal case, I would choose DRG, but BLU fits in the setup nicely if someone else has a better DRG than you and you still wanted to join.

Haste aside, MG still gives MDB, defense, and regen, which are not trivial, especially on V15/V20.
Also: haste from a WHM + SV HMarch is capped haste, you don't need an entrust at all, unless you somehow end up slowed.

For Ambuscade capes, with standard vanilla gearset macros, can you still make multiple capes for the same job, or is that only really viable for the 3rd party people?
If you could only make a single cape per job, what would be the optimal loadout on it for melee?

I'm 99% sure you can if you use the ingame equipsset feature.
How it works, dont know. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/iwp438/gear_swapping_with_equipsets/

If you could only make a single cape per job, what would be the optimal loadout on it for melee? If you were vanilla, you would just need to put each cape in a different wardrobe or location for them to successfully bind to vanilla equipsets for macros

In-game /equipset picks a single item and has no problem differentiating between capes with different augments. You can make 80 cape for the same job and put them in the same wardrobe, different wardrobes, or wherever you want and it will put on the one you put in the equipset.
Beware though, if you move them from one wardrobe to another, you may need to re-select them in the equipset.
I have 8 COR capes, all in a single wardrobe, and all of my equipsets put on the correct cape.

I was gonna say that made no sense that it wouldnt work. Didnt SE add the /equipset function because people complained they were having issues with duplicate gear differentiated only by augments and they were unable to macro it?

There are also in-game macro functions for the same thing if, for some reason, you want to include just a single piece of gear in a macro like:
/equipset 25 <wait 1>
/equip main Rostam 1
/ja "Chaos Roll" <me>
/equipset 21
/equip main Naegling
..I'm not sure if that works exactly as-is because I don't do stuff like this, but if you have 3 Rostams, one in Wardrobe 1, one in 2, and one in 3, and you want to equip the roll Rostam with a macro line, you can specify which one by putting it in a specific wardrobe. I've never used this function.
Or you can just put it in your equipset.

I only mention because I recently tried to make a vanilla gearset with two of the same swords in the same wardrobe and it was not having it, ended up having to put one in another location for the gearset to allow both to be equipped.
Similar to the lockstyling annoyance of locking one sword to both hands

I had like 10 DRK ambu capes all in different equipsets and the same bag and it never had any issues differentiating them. It can even differentiate between two pieces with the exact same augments (there's no benefit to it, but it can do it).
The only issue is if you have a piece in an equipset and then move it to another bag, it won't "follow" the piece if there are other instances of the base item in the first bag.

I just equipped an equipset with 2 of the same weapon, with different augments, in the same wardrobe, to both hands.

How does aquaveil work? Like utsusemi where one shadow gets subtracted after each interruption or do enemies need to strip all aquaveil shadows within one cast to make it fall?
By Seun 2023-09-25 01:43:54
Your skill and gear determine the number of charges for Aquaveil. Every time you would be interrupted, a charge is subtracted until the buff is consumed.

The only issue is if you have a piece in an equipset and then move it to another bag, it won't "follow" the piece if there are other instances of the base item in the first bag.
I think it has to do with the "order" in the inventory list that the item is in. When you move it out of your bag, the item spot your equipset previously corresponded to (in this case, a cape) no longer is in the exact spot it was when you set the macro, so the macro fails. I noticed this a while back; I moved a cape out of a bag, then moved it right back. Equipset consistently picked the wrong cape. I think when I sorted the list back, the macro worked
So I think it works like this:
Macro is set with a cape in a bag that has multiple capes
Cape you set for specific macro is in "spot 50/80"
Cape is moved out of "spot 50" to another bag
Cape is moved back to original bag, but not in spot 50
Macro looks for cape in spot 50, doesn't find it, so picks next available cape from list (my guess)
(guessing here) if you move cape back to spot 50, it works again as normal
For those of you that visit Bg you already know the premise of this thread but for those that don't, it's simple.
