I've read everything I can about Chocobo Racing, but I just can't seem to win the first race.
Why are we allowed to submit ChocoboTrain items (non-Racing) for our retired chocobo? How do we get an updated VCS Registration Card so that our chocobo's stats are updated for the next race attempt?
This is so confusing. I guess I wasn't supposed to retire my chocobo? The order of steps to go from Raising to Racing is not clear. :/
I am very confused as well. I tried to raise a chocobo when it first came about 20 years ago if i recall(we are all so old)
Trying to raise one now for racing and just tried to read up and so freaking lost... I need a quick and dirty guide just for raising for racing!
EDIT: Just got digging Recruit, is there a list of areas you should be digging in to skill up or just go nuts?

The racing guide is:
1. Raise a chocobo
2. Try to get canter and gallop (or autoregen, idr)
3. Get friends to buy you R Chocotrains for STR and END
4. Trade them in until you cap
5. Remember to re-register your bird when your stats change
6. Do free runs for a few chocobucks while you go through the official race ladder (every 20hrs)
7. If you don't care about having an absolute top tier digger, finish making your racer good enough to win everything and then adjust its base stats for digging, but never re-register it.

Thank you! ...But, what about Retiring? Your chocobo automatically retires after ~129 days ...so all of steps 1-8 have to be done within 129 days, right?

Technically steps 1-5 need to be done before retirement. You can keep racing your bird after retirement. The one bird I made is still racing.

Has anyone tried the 'transferring augments' process for limbus equipment yet? Does it work as advertised or any oddities? The way I read it is that if you have an NQ, rank it up say 5 times and then trade it to a furnace with an unaugmented HQ of the same slot/attire then the HQ just gets those 5 augment ranks. Yay/nay?

What's going with sweet rice cake pricing and sales volume? GP item alone can't explain that can it?

I haven't been paying attention to this seasonal Valentione's event. Is there anything new out of it compared to previous years? (I just check BGWiki for New/Updated items, but maybe there's a more obvious way, especially if there's an updated guide?)

What do !! procs in UNMs and Escha NMs do exactly?
I know the purpose of !! procs in Dynamis and Voidwatch and Abyssea but it seems like UNM and Escha procs just terrorize temporarily.
Is there more to them or just terror to make the fight easier?
By Nariont 2026-02-28 22:53:11
depends on the encounter, its not a 1 size fits all kind of thing in both how they can be proc'd and what they do when proc'd, wiki has (some) of the proc conditions on those specific NMs and what they do

By Asura.Eiryl 2026-03-01 03:31:42
It's nearly universally "do damage" and causes terror
The only special ones that come to mind that's slightly more complex is Sov procs reset DT and can only be done by skillchain and not just "damage" and silence fluffy

So I have a .xis file, a config and macro backup from the FFXI config program.
Is there any way to extrapolate PART of the macros in this file and read them?
Only thing I can do with the software is to restore the whole settings and macros entirely.
I just wanna read them.
By Dodik 2026-03-02 04:13:48
Grab your favourite hex editor and search for strings matching your macro definitions in that file.
It might be encoded, but I doubt it. Probably just a location in the file that stores macro lines as bytes.

It is encoded alas. I know the encoding, more or less, of the .ttl file (macros) but the .xis is different.
I solved finding a 25-11-2025 backup. I merged it with the current setup (where a couple of macro lines disappeared) and I solved it.
Still, I guess it would be nice to know how to decode the .xis file xD
By Dodik 2026-03-02 04:25:10
If you can extract the encoded macro data you could identify what the encoding is.
Most basic would be a base64 encoding of bytes. Could try decoding the data as base64 and see if the output makes sense.
It needs to handle utf-8 (for JP) so a base64 encoding of utf-8 string would be my guess.

Assuming accuracy isn't an issue or you don't need -DT, is there ever a time when the TVR 10% WSD ring and the Empanda 5% WSD ring are not BIS?
The only examples I can think of is maybe the Archon Ring (Dark Elemental MAB +5%) for Leaden Slaute / Sanguine Blade.
Multi-Hit ws they aren't always best, replicating ws where the average is higher with gere/niq etc
Another rather specific one is Weatherspoon Ring/+1, basically the light equivalent to Archon's Dark elemental affinity. Great for a handful of useful WS: Trueflight, Seraph Blade/Strike, Primal Rend.
But yeah, aside from the light/dark element ones and the occasional multi-hit WS using Gere and/or Niqmaduu (for example, that's the pair for most H2H WS), Cornelia+Epam is the best combo for a ton of WS.
Ephramad's Ring is another WS option from TVR rings that would be:
(1) BiS for any STR/DEX/AGI mod WS you may see where Regal Ring is still used. Basically serves as a Regal Ring upgrade, same STR/DEX/AGI/Atk/Ratk but adds PDL+10% (may or may not be relevant for you based on target/buffs/debuffs and whether or not you're capped atk, but never gonna be worse than Regal).
(2) Can beat Cornelia's if you have the buffs to often take advantage of the PDL+
For me, I get more use out of Cornelia's on so many more jobs/WS (as compared to Ephramad's) and I'm frequently not running with max buffs, so Cornelia's is my TVR pick. I think I do still have a very smalllll number of WS where I'm still using Regal though. Regal would also remain more relevant for people who might have gone with another TVR ring like Lehko's for a TP piece, Fickblix's for SMN, etc.

Does doom from cruel joke or endeath from weapons/armor/spell land on any Limbus mobs? I assume not because every mob in Temenos is a beastmen or unclassified type (which are usually immune to doom and death), and Apollyon carries a 50% resistance rank to darkness.

As much as I like that idea and funny it is, I doubt it. I mean, we can't aoe damage cleave in Limbus, so I doubt SE would overlook something like that again or make another mistake like it (or WILL they?). Apart from that short-time short-lived Crawler's Nest [S] Cruel joke cleave because they forgot to switch on the curse/doom immunity flag, it was funny and fun doing that.

You cant aoe leave in Sheol either so I dont think thats a valid argument.
I think the bigger question would be: why?

Damage no, but some mob families are susceptible to Cruel Joke.
But I agree with you on that. Sheol A and B have big long floors and we're on a strict 30 minutes. I don't know how or what SE meant when they said "Exploration" for Sheol A/B/C* areas when they were released at the time that we could squeeze 30 minutes doing that :p

When you charge a Moogle Amplifier (doing sufficient damage to three consecutive bosses) and re-enter Gaol to use it can you then fight two more bosses after the amplifier boss to charge another amplifier? Or does using the amplifier conflict in some way?
Eg: To charge an amplifier do you have to do 3 bosses, leave, do 1 amplified boss, leave, do 3 bosses and then repeat? Or can you just do 3 bosses, use an amplifier, do 3 bosses and then start every subsequent entry with a charge as long as you do 3 at a time?

Also, the charge bonus will only be applied to the NM which you deal >5% HP damage to and receive RP from while under the effect of the Moogle Amplifier. So if your group is fighting something you don't need RP for, you can select which you receive the charged Amplifier bonus from.

Really? Upon Release you could kill Limbus NMs with Purulent Ooze in 3 seconds. They overlook a lot of things or don't test them out fully.
I think the bigger question would be: why?
Random question thread, asked a random question. Mostly wondering about the Death proc from Tartarus Platemail and weapons like Zantetsuken/Odium, Cruel Joke was just in the same category. Like Nostos, Limbus mobs are just normal monsters, so I was wondering if they flagged them immune to doom/death or not (especially the NMs, sometimes they miss something). Keep in mind, the summoner automatons they use for AmbuVol1 is basically statless, and vulnerable to Terror from BLU, when normally you can't land Terror on NMs. They don't always look at every ability/spell and check off all boxes to see if any unusual effects work, as mentioned with Purulent Ooze.

Are any WAR mains considering the WAR/BRD/NIN Limbus set pieces in any sort of big way?
I've seen 100% crit build floated in places, but I wanted to know, what WARs be thinking with Limbus?
The investment is a real long road, even for a single piece, so I wanted to see some more thoughts.
I thought to first just no brain it, and do Quad attack hands and feet for SAM/COR/DRG(haven't Mastered or thoroughly thought out sets for DRG yet) since I became a Galka shortly after the race change option went live since a friend who did a lot for me requested me to become one (I was Hume before lmao).
I'm looking for guidance and thoughts as a source of motivation. Ever since I R30'd my Alabaster Earring I find it increasingly hard to tower climb.

Best non AH camping way to get Vomp Carrots? I used three Porcelain flowerpots and Wildgrass Seeds feeding earth like BG says but got random other items. I cant race yet so no way to use chocobucks either. Just wondering if there is a more reliable way before my chick is grown and needs them. I have some carrot paste already. Thanks.

Gardening is the only way, all you can do is increase production. You could also buy a thousand Grow-M-Good and spam the garden furrow.
Why only use 3 pots when you can have 10. use mules. 16x10 many carrots make.
Next month is 16 free sortie earrings, so double dip.
...You could also just pay someone with chocobucks, I guess. That's not using the AH.

Furrows are very very low chance to get vomp carrots. Mog house gardening is best bet.
