I played with the ITG mob on Asura for awhile(yesterday,the site was down, EDIT: I see it did pop finally), killed it 6x in about 1.5 hours.It never popped the glowy ???. Tried mellee/ws/magic kill even TH'ing it. Which seemingly was very hard to even proc 9. Nothing.
Everytime I killed it I went back to start, waited 2-3minutes, started scanning for it again and found it every time. So it seems to respawn almost immediately. In the 6x I killed it, it was never really "off-path" to where it would sit up for hours/days. I suspect its concstantly being killed and just not turning to the ??? glowy
When you say 'back to start' I assume you mean the current floor? And you were able to find it that reliably? Any ideas if the ITG always repops on the same floor or is it possible you were the only person in Limbus at the time so the respawn maybe had nowhere else to go?
I just killed an ITG Gigas on Central 4 in Temenos on my server, waited a few minutes and checked everything twice but couldn't find it again on that floor unfortunately. Could just be coincidence but Central 4 is also where the last ??? popped on our server.
Edit: Finished my run and went back to check Central 4 again and lo and behold I did find an ITG Unseelie. No ??? still but at least it was on the same floor. However upon running through again one last time a short while later I could not find any ITG.

I made a little tool for this:

It's basically a configurable /check spam that alerts on anything with the "impossible to gauge" response.
In a typical four floor run it will send 700-900 /checks. (50 yalm / 2.0 sec interval)
It doesn't provide any additional info, other than narrowing down if its a ton berry, or a course, or whatever. But its pretty useful to turn on and then not worry about finding the mob unless it alerts you its in the vicinity.
As always, use at your own risk, etc. Etc.

I never saw it on the same floor back to back, but Asura has people all over killing. I suspect when a mob dies it has a chance to respawn as the ITG mob. it doesnt spawn in a family thats sitting fully spawned.

It’s at least caching them for 120 seconds so it doesn’t recheck ones in the cache

getting 1-3 everyweek~ got zero on some weeks too, seeing people getting 3-5 -.-
lv119~ changing towers, anything more im missing? is there a tower for races like before?

Your post is incredibly vague, so i have no idea how to answer.
1-3 matters? 1-3 5k chests? How many chests are you opening? Is that just Apollyon, just temenos, or both combined? What are the words you wrote supposed to mean?
I would say 1-3 is pretty normal for 5 climbs in 1 zone in 1 week. 3 is quite nice, 4 is incredible. 1 is extraordinarily unlucky, but ***happens sometimes. 0 is impossible unless you *** up.
All those numbers are for matter. Getting more than 2, or certainly 3, 5k chests per week is very nice. Getting 1 is pretty average/OK.
There are no races or any stupid gimmicks. Just anecdotes being anecdotes.

got zero on some weeks too Rng is going to be rng, but this is impossible if you are doing at least 4 climbs a week and rotating chests.
You're guaranteed 1 matter within 4 chests so just doing 4 climbs is 1 guarantee per week or if you do all 5 climbs then you guarantee 5 matters per month. (Via the 5k lucky chests - clarification)
The amount of mannequin NMs killed on your server dictates the drop rate of matters, so that could have an effect, but 2-3 would be average, some weeks you will only see 1, others you'll see 5. My alt went 4 weeks 1/4 on alabaster matters back before the new code item when I only did 4 climbs a week.
Also once you find your lucky chest, it does have a chance to repeat into that same tower, I've changed my ways to always reopen a lucky chest, because if you don't and it does repeat, you won't see the lucky again until your 4th chest open and that feels bad to me, also I've had both my characters repeat towers 2-4 times several times.

4 towers per zone, 5 openings per week bu heres the math
1 hq chest = 100%
2 hq chest = 62%.5%
3 hq chest 15.625%
4 hq chest = 1.953%
5 hq chest = .098%
So decent chance you will get 2 HQ chest per week. The earlier you find your first one the better. your average will be about 2 HQ chest a week. You then have to factor in NQ chest can also drop matter. From my experience nq chest have ~50% chance of dropping a matter. Highest probability is you get 2 hq and 3 nq chest a week. This would equate to 3.5 matters a week.
hq = 2 matter
nq = 1.5 matter
That said this is long term averages and its all rng. I have 3 toons. 1 toon has balanced matter atm. 1 toon has surplus of murky, and third had surplus of alabaster. I have 1 toon that has 2 R30 and 1 piece at R11, the other was struggling to finish her second R30.

Yeah, it's literally impossible to get zero if you just open one chest per area (and the fifth in any of the areas) every week.
Are you sure you're not capped on units and then "only" getting 3,000 because you're capped on units? You can tell if it's the good chest because it throws a whole explosion of loot at you.

It's not necessarily "literally impossible" if we assume he's not maximizing box/climbs per week. He's already somewhat implied that he's not rotating towers, so he may also be doing 1-3 climbs weekly. He could get no matters on a particular week, if he only did a couple of climbs and no no tower rotations were done, assuming 3k.
My first Temenos Code use (which was the only box I opened on that particular week) gave me no matter, so technically that week I got "zero matters". Kind of misleading with information, but still possible.
Anyways, from my very limited climb history, the drop rate on matters is at least 75% or so on 3k chests. It's more common than not getting a matter. However, recency/negativity bias is a thing; I "feel" like I have terrible drop rates on matters (I don't, based on how many I actually have vs how many runs I do), because my mind hyper focuses on the few times I don't get a matter, and focuses less on the majority of the time i do get matters. We all do that. But I don't really think the drop rate on matters is all that bad. It is frustrating not getting a matter though, because it feels like a waste of my time even bothering with the climb to begin with. But that's just me

so he may also be doing 1-3 climbs weekly. It stands to reason that someone saying "I'm not getting the same results as everyone else, what am I doing wrong" is implying they're putting the same effort as everyone else. If theyre only doing 1-3 climbs in each zone per week when everyone else is doing 5, then theres the reason they get shittier results.

like if they got literally zero they either don't know about the "you only get 3,000 if you're at cap because that's all the units you can hold" or they aren't rotating towers, those are the two possible options

our Temenos ??? despawned today. Decided to hunt the Nm. We recorded 22 kills, with no ??? drop. We did confirm however ITG Mob is instant spawn and can pop on same floor as prior (had this happen twice)
25+ kills and it finally popped.

I keep a record of every chest I open, which tower, whether it contains a Matter or not, which one is the 5K chest and which is the 'Coded' chest.
However, I finished my 5th Temenos chest on Friday (4 normal climbs and 1 Coded chest). So, this morning (Sunday) I see another ??? reported on C4 Meeble room. I change the lv to 119, go for the ??? and it's then I notice I have a full KI set in my 'Items' along with the Temenos Code. I open the chest on C4 and get the 5K (my 2nd this week) from my 6th chest.
Not sure what/how this occurred. Anyone else seen this?

Just sacrificed tomorrow's free codes to test (oh well):
Went to Apollyon (did 4+code this week, so same scenario), changed level to 119, grabbed ???, no code, no KIs.
Went to Temenos (did 1+code this week, not same scenario but tested anyways), changed to 119, grabbed ???, no code, no KIs.
No idea what you did. Maybe post your log of each box open?

I did a climb with a party on Saturday on my WAR purely for the EP.
Job change resets any progress but I'd finished my climbs and can't remember the KIs registering in my chat log lol.
The only thing I can think of is I recorded wrong with the first free ??? (my 3rd climb) seeing I've had 2 this week but this still makes 6 chests.
My records of Tem this week:
1. 3k Matter
2. 3k Matter
3. Free Code, no Matter
4. 5k Matter
5. 3k no Matter
6. Free Code 5k Matter. This was opened on DRK after changing to Lv 119 and after an EP climb on my WAR.

Changing jobs? Or leaving the zone only affects the progress bar and has absolutely no effect on any temp items (not key items) received.
Seems like a case of mistaken memory or improper tracking.

I did Temenos code today on C4 and decided to open the chest right there and got matters on all my characters, so 5/5. I've only been doing code since it came out, so I gave up on running to a different tower. Went 4/5 in Apollyon running to a different tower tho lol

Correct. Can touch the ??? once per spawn (so 2, maybe 3 a week if perfect conditions). But the code will only be granted once per conquest.

I'd be willing to bet that
A-your inventory filled up so you didnt get the matter (try making room and clicking box again if you're still in area)
B-server side you got the matter, but the packet with the message got dropped, it'll turn up in your inventory.
Or C, which is very unlikely considering you're on Asura, all the NM's werent killed and your box wasnt upgraded.
I didn't see a thread dedicated to new-new Limbus so here's one with some findings. I’ve continued to edit this post with new discoveries made throughout the thread.

Obtaining the Key Items / Units
Kill mobs to fill the bar in the upper left. Seems to take 6-15+ mobs per floor, this increases based on the chosen mob level and number of people in your party. You continue to get units as long as you want to sit there and keep killing and refill the bar, but at half the rate. Whether this is comparable to the units gained by continuing to move floors and finishing the event to get the chest bonus is up a function of your personal kill speed and group size.
Each Temporary KI looks like "Apollyon SE #1 data", and you get 1 per floor. You keep them until you open a chest and then they are all lost. You get a KI for filling up the bar at the top of the screen on each floor. I didn't count but I think it requires like 10 mobs per floor (this apparently varies by level choice). Once you get a KI, you should get to keep it even if you leave Limbus. You would lose any progress on any un-completed floors, but this is like 6-10 kills so no biggie.
You can enter any section / floor at any time. You don't need to go in any type of order or "climb" if you're missing one of the upper KIs from a run that got interrupted.
Once you choose a level (119-130), I think you need to keep that level choice until you open a chest. If you adjust it after getting some KIs, you might lose them. The NPC dialogue isn't too clear on this.
There were no direct drops from mobs, of any kind.
Mob Details
All the mobs seem to have pretty serious DT, probably 50% (confirm by Brixy as 50%, per Air Knife expected enspell dmg). But they aren't hard. They hit like 130s. AoE/Cleaving is extremely nerfed.
Pulling mobs is weird. Any initial spell cast before initial aggro / dynamic level adjustment may land, but will not remain on the mob. You will not see a message to reflect this.
If you pull with silence (while it's un-aggroed), it appears the silence instantly wears without any message, likely due to the dynamic-level adjustment which happens as soon as you aggro (credit to Moonlightagb for this theory, I think it's correct). Silencing twice is probably needed. This doesn't matter much in a party, but if you're solo and mob density is high this effect could be pretty annoying. Other examples later verified by others: If you pull with Immanence, the skill chain will not complete. If you pull with Dia, you can sleep right after.
Mob respawn is on the order of a few minutes but I was pretty lonely this morning. I had one floor with a couple groups and it felt faster, might be dynamic spawn rate.
Aside from the initial-aggro weirdness, everything can be debuffed and slept as expected. Sneak/invis work fine, but true aggro mobs remain like Imps and such.
Getting the goods
In order for the chest to open, you need to finish all of the zone, not just one section. So Apollyon zone is 18 KIs, Temenos zone should be 25 KIs. If the chest says "it won't open", you need more KIs. The chests are located at the exit of each "top floor" in each section. However, you can only open a chest once you have finished all the sections (NW,NE,SW,SE,etc).
After getting all KIs in Apollyon, each character had earned:
About 4000 units from killing mobs and climbing floors
3000 units from finding a shiny ??? on the ground and clicking it
3000 units (one character in the party got 5000 units, no idea why) directly from the chest
So each character of a 6-person party left a ~90 minute run with 10-12k units. EP was ~15k/hr, but this is ML50s fighting level 130s. Maybe it's better if you're lower.
My initial limit on Apollyon units was 30,000. After I opened the chest, that increased to 33,000. It looks to increase 3000 more with each chest open.
Apollyon Units are used to upgrade AF pieces to +4.
Temenos Units are used to upgrade relic pieces to +4.
The upgrade costs are:
Head: 20k units
Body: 30k units
Hands: 15k units
Legs: 25k units
Feet: 10k units
Once I got to 10k units, the furnace did allow me to trade a foot piece, though I didn't choose to complete the process. Trading any other slot did nothing.
I did get the title Apollyon Razer, which I think is just the same as the old title lol
