I still remember soloing Gogmagog V15 for RP on Monk without Amplifiers in between Segment runs. Back then, you had to kill the boss to even get decent RP, and iirc it was still like 392/kill@V15. I was able to cap R20 Coiste Bodhar in a couple of weeks. It was slow, but not necessarily a slog. Once RP cheese and Amplifiers were released, it became a breeze and then people could cap out pieces in a few hours. But that was when later vengs came out. With ranked 20 gear as the cap, you could RP pieces at a slow pace, assuming you could kill t3 bosses on v15. You didn't really need to though, since the base stats on the gear was great on it's own.

They understood the assignment with Limbus by not stepping all over Gaol gear completely on base stats, but locking all the good stats behind higher ranks. The opposite of what Gaol gear was (minus Nyame), the augments just being supplemental to the incredibly good base gear. Designed this way because Limbus technically is easy, open content for everyone, so the reward hunt has to be longer. Whereas Gaol is harder, So the reward hunt is not as grindy but getting access to the rewards is challenging. I mean, I get the thought behind it, and it makes sense as far as satisfying both groups of players (experienced vets and beginners) but it's just terrible to the point that it backfires. It's content, so people will do it (or not), but it's undesirable.

Then again, without Amplifiers, RPing Gaol gear would equally be hell. So I'm envisioning somewhere in November-January they implement a way to speed up this grind. Just based on historical timelines.
Are there actually new players (not RMT bot account #535353) who play long enough post-story to grind through all the previous content for a year to eventually get to the point they're doing Limbus?

Honestly curious if this a unicorn or a common thing.

New players yes, despite logic.

Stick around more than a couple months, no. Extremely rare.

There's new players because of them putting FFXI inside of FFXIV.
They come check out the story then quit long before they get to limbus.

I fully know why, it's stupid is the statement.

The starting, not the leaving.

If you want to throw away $10 on sale for one month to get city rank 10 and maybe rotz cop till your sub runs out, I wouldn't begrudge that to a FF series fan. But absolutely not past month 1.

To a FF14 player, 1-99, rank10, cop and zilart is a massively better game play and story experience than they've ever gotten in FF14.

Wouldn't know, likely accurate.

It's free to do 14 MSQ though. (up to whatever the previous xpac is)

As someone that's been through the pipeline, if a new player comes in with good MMO understanding and fundamentals and a willingness to play WHM they can get into most content except 8/9-boss Sortie, W3 Dyna-D, and high Vengeance Odyssey within a few months if they commit themselves. That's the route I took at any rate, you don't need a Yagrush for anything below that and getting WHM to a decent level to contribute isn't hard at all if you find the right LS. Particularly now with things like RSE +1 and other gear to uplift you some to decent idles.

That is of course all contingent on getting adopted by a LS that's capable of these events and open to new players, which seems rarer and rarer as time goes on and players get more insular or just slowly drop off for the churn of story-based new players.

I was lucky enough to be able to take that route at least which let me spring-boot other jobs I was interested in to the point of actually being able to contribute.

But by far, yes, the average new player experience in the 2020s is to show up, play through all the stories until RoV ends as a THF/DNC or something, hit their head against low tier Ambuscades or 119 Geas Fetes, balk at the thought of actually grinding CP and realizing everyone is long done with it or just buys/bots it, maybe gets really into SMN/PUP/BST for a bit as they're pretty unique to XI despite them being niche in actual endgame, then just kind of quit as most LSs on the Concierge are social and pretty much just full of rotating new story players, and other games they're interested in come out or update.

So in regards to the Temenos ITG mob for the ???. I noticed yesterday that I was killing it and it checked ITG, but as it died you can still target/check. I did this and it showed as Easy pray. I thought i checked the wrong mob, but happened again today. Wondering if its a bug where the mob changes from ITG at death. Or maybe just intended consequence of how the system works.
Can just confirm this is happening in Temenos. I spammed /c on it while I killed it, and the second it died it turned to VT. No ??? of course, because why would it.

I havent seen in in Apollyon to confirm anything.

As someone who's basically on a dead server with only 2-3 people who actually do Limbus and the ???s weren't found until Saturday night, hear me out.
If the ??? is still up after weekly reset, you should be able to click it again for the new week.

Yeesh I finally spawned a Temenos ??? but it's the first 'drop' of it I've seen myself after killing probably ~15 ITGs over the last few weeks, what a bother.

I did find DNC was the fastest way to solo Limbus floors when I was doing it that way, given you have self-haste, heals, movement speed. You can throw up Ulmia/Koru/Sylvie and be just fine. But 119 is probably way too low for the effort and time involved; you probably could reasonably bump it to 125 and not see any dip in kill speed or zone clear, especially if your DNC is well geared. You can probably 2-shot everything with climactic or prime/empy 2x WS, even at 125, so there might not be a reason to solo that low.

I ran as a BRD/DNC and the trusts I use were King of hearts, Monberaux and Ayame, I did 119 because I just want the chests

I can buff myself ( 5 songs), sleep mobs I accidentally aggro, self haste ( honor march and haste Samba)

King dia III, gives me haste and dispels

Monberaux never runs of out MP

And Ayame helps close skillchains with Savage Blade and off hand 1k TP dagger

I've done the same with BRD solo, and it was still slower than DNC main. TP gain is noticeably a lot slower even with SV songs for 11+ minutes. You can still 2-shot everything with Savage, Ruthless, or Rudra's on BRD, but it felt sloggier than pure DDs. I wasn't using Hoxne on BRD though, so maybe it's probably faster if I popped that.

Your Ayame setup is interesting though. You just need her with capped attack speed to open a SC and you close and kill the mob in one hit, so that's definitely a practical use case I had not thought of.

The huge advantage on BRD though is being able to sleep adds and not having to force choose specific trusts, because you already cover the base buffs via songs. You can probably drop Monberaux for Qultada for more DD buffs, since healing is minimal on 119, especially if you sleep extras. On DNC, I have to worry about capping magical haste, so I only really have room for Sylvie or Qultada for more attack. And Sylvie is better because her buffs are fulltime, and she has status removal.

Have tried Temenos climbs at 125, full party, 3dds no tank brd, cor and rdm, everyone /dnc for jig.

Fastest time was able to do was 55min, being generous, and that's with superwarp and all the things helping with the porters.

I call BS on 40-45min Temenos climbs.

I do apollyon (130) in a little under an hour, typically 55-60 minutes, with just myself 3boxing and none of that ***.

For temenos it's a little over an hour, probably 60-65 minutes. Depends a bit on WC luck, how distracted I am, etc.

I could record a video if you want, but i assure you it will be extremely boring and you're better off believing me. It's not difficult.

Maybe there aren't enough mobs on your server? With that many DDs, it should take like 2 minutes per floor. You're only killing 1ish mobs per person, how long could that possibly take?

We did Limbus as an event this week and both Temenos climbs were sub 45 min at i135. 5 humans 1 mule.

WAR RDM BRD COR GEO RDM/SCH mule.

MNK SAM BRD COR GEO RDM/SCH mule.

Train to the end sleep everything then warp once the bar is full. Except e6 with the Fairies, c2 and c3.

Limbus sucks btw

Yes and yes, limbus is uneventful, agree with male/taint. We do anywhere from 5-13 peeps, faster at 5 than 13 if you ask me the question as stuff scale but MMO is about making friends and connections isn’t it? So 13 it is. But yeah about 35 min each zone (extended SV, CC the bard to make sure 5 song back for apo if chaining, then 2 more sets and usually wear off on C4 that’s how I know, never actually timed it). Same as taint besides of C2-3 which we just make bigger train, and e6 we kill the whities. You got this

I did specify Temenos. I said nothing about Apollyon.

40-45min runs for Temenos, at current number of floors, is BS.

I have 1 DD, you have 6, my mobs are higher level, and you're telling me that you take 5 minutes less than I do, with all the addons on the world.

Skill issue, that's all I'm saying.

He's also presumably dancing for all 25 floors, that unnecessarily adds up when you can just aggro and sleep especially at 125, temenos floors are too short outside of the mentioned C2 and C3

My fastest times for Temenos Lv 135 is 32min. Apollyon Lv 135 is 30mins.
I've only recently got these times and I spam Limbo. Sometimes after I've done my weekly climbs I'll join as WAR for the EP if ppl are struggling to get a DD or if I'm helping a friend do theirs.

Party set-up: BRD, COR, GEO(Healer), RDM (DD preferred), any DD and me always DRK.
A good Temenos climb is ~40mins, a little faster for Apollyon but I get a lot of excellent players, no messing around.

Temenos E2 can be made simpler by killing the first Euvhi then snk/invis to the end, avoiding any Pixie contact.
Apollyon SE 1 & 2 is sneak only for anyone not pulling mobs whereas SE 3 is snk & invis(for the Peists).

All meds I need are in my Inventory, Oils, Powders, Panacea, Holy waters, Remedy and Echo Drops.
I never ask for R25s or Primes but it does help and if anyone is new to the climb, I will guide them on the fly.

How many DD fighting the same mob? My experience multibox is that the time lag of assisting one person with autotarget off adds up to more than I thought it would. I've had to get creative because the BRD/COR/DD basically just draw their weapon and put it away because two Mumeis are typically enough. This can cause a decrease in time if you have 5 attentive humans vs multibox. Other considerations are leaving auto-target on/off and risking overkill. I run at 119 facepulling as SAM (or if turbofollow has someone ahead of me then WHM or whatever). For C2 I would kill at the start, bolters, S/I via accension then book it to the end of C3 reapplying invis at the start of C3 to minimize the stopping. C4 I kill at box and lullaby as needed.

I haven't tried the /dnc jig yet but that's probably the best way to abuse bolters with a mix of kill at start vs ends.

Generally one dd on one mob, rest on another mob. Yes, can optimise more by splitting to more targets. It also would save maybe 5min. I'll try having autotarget on see if can split up to more mobs.

Will also try skipping jig and just aggroing everything on the non-central floors.

Another point is with climbs like this, hyper optimising means having to remember a whole bunch of things. Less things to think about -> easier runs even if they take a few minutes longer.

C4 I kill at start then warp back to town. C1/C2/C3 bolters, jig, and book it.

The people getting 30-40 minute Temenos aren't 6boxing (I would guess), they're human beings targeting mobs. Why would you ever turn off autotarget? Put a human in front of the keyboard and they can avoid overkill by...pressing buttons on their keyboard.

In Temenos, I typically only jig on about 6-7 floors. All of Central and then a few of the more annoying floors of the E/W/N.

If you aren't optimizing stuff like this then I realize why your runs are slow.

Or maybe it's impossible and everyone's lying. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
