FFXI LGBT Community, Who Are You?

One thing I'm really worried about is that when Trump takes office next year, Mike Pence will also be instated as VP and we all know about him being against the LGBT community. I'm worried about what this means for the future of marriage equality and equal rights. I don't trust Trump, but I don't trust Pence a lot more.

Obviously Mike Pence was a problem for not only LBGT folk but also every citizen in Indiana, which is why everyone should be happy he is now VP. Because in that position, he is irrelevant. He can't do anything, he has little to no power, he is all talk. His best hope is Trump screws up and he is elevated to Prez.

Marriage equality is not going anywhere, no law can be passed that violates the Supreme Court ruling, its a done deal. I can understand the worry about right to discriminate laws tho, you just have to continue to fight them at the state level. It worked out pretty badly for Indiana and North Carolina, both states lost a lot of money and hopefully that will act as a deterrent.

Nothing discriminatory is going to be passed at the federal level, the Dems will never vote for it. Trump could, theoretically, reverse Obama's anti-discrimination EO at the federal level, but I don't see him doing it. There are no positives to come from that and he is going to have a hard enough time convincing people he doesn't suck.

People need to recall that it's more than just those two.

The republican platform this year consists of mostly antigay everything.
Legislatively "protect" conversion "therapy". (It'a just not illegal now.)
Repeal gay marriage.
Federal "religious freedom" legislation.
Transgender bathroom rights.
Etc.
It's the most antigay the party has ever been in its platform.
(And while there is a bit about other things like the Affordable Care Act... but most of it is recinding gay people's civil rights.)

And it is they who control the legislature.
The only hope is the minority party holding out... but as they are also the presidency... these things can all be forced.
And since all of us remember a time when we lacked these feeble rights everyone else takes for granted... it's not unimaginable to not have them again.

And its terrible.
Because it's a real threat.
At least I can go to my Reservation in Canada should worse comes to worst... (yes. I am the minorities of minorities. Gay AND Native American. You can't hope to beat me in a minority off. I'm simply the most minor there is.)
Though the vast majority of you are not so lucky. I'm sorry. :(

Republicans don't have a filibuster proof majority so anything passed needs some Democratic approval. Gay rights isn't something they'll budge on.

Does this thread have any life left in it? A lot has changed in 6 years (since I last posted). Recently Moonlight won best picture, and there will be a gay couple in Beauty and the Beast! Unprecedented!

Correction: There will be an 'exclusively gay moment'. It likely won't be a main plot line, but still a welcome (and long overdue) step forward by Disney if not a large one.
