I thought this was obvious but:

"Straight community, who are you?" thread is stupid because ~96% of people are straight, so by default everyone is assumed to be straight (a perfectly reasonable assumption).

"Gay community, who are you?" thread is not stupid because we're only ~4% of people, and this helps to get to know each other.

Ok, so its "stupid" because someone wants to make a thread within a community just to see the number of gay gamers out there that play ffxi?

This is no different than minorities who set up communities in a city, town or whatever. It isn't like people are doing this just to generate smut like on the playonline chatrooms back in the day, which were quite funny. In addition we're all on forums; forums are designed for people to make posts of any kind, given limits or not.

Put simply this thread is all about a "I'm gay, who is out there too that's gay, I wanna say hi". Nothing more. We're not out to start a GLBT revolution linkshell having some sort of dat blinking various colors, jokingly speaking.

I'd like to add, that just because someone wants to be treated equally doesn't mean they can't be proud of who they are. I'm sure your proud to be American, I'm proud to be Canadian and some people are proud to be gay. Doesn't mean I want you to treat me differently than I should be just because I live in an igloo.
